Tonight is a night that most of us dog owners hate!

Fireworks can make a lot of dogs anxious and scared. Here’s a few things to try to help your dogs cope with the fireworks:

🐶 Keep your home well lit to disguise the flashes
🐶 Make sure widows and doors are closed
🐶 Play music or the TV loud to drown out the sound of fireworks
🐶 Try not to overreact when they go off
🐶 Act as though it’s a normal night, play with your dogs toys and try to get them excited the best you can
🐶 Make sure they have a comfortable safe place they can retreat

We hope all the dogs that are affected by fireworks are as well as they can be through this night and these tips help them the best it can 💙

Training starts now!!!

You can use your dogs meal times as a great way to teach them obedience, respect, patience & structure 👌🏻

Try to make it routine for your dog to sit and wait to be told to eat their food from their bowl every meal time.
This will develop so many great behaviours if you get it right not to mention the loving relationship and bond you will have 💙🥰

Let us know how you get on for yourself. 👀

🗣️ “DOG’S DON’T COME WITH INSTRUCTIONS!”

For those of you who have worked with me, you know how much I love this saying. ☺️

I love it because it’s true. Don’t wait for your dog to ‘get better as they get older’ or fall into the trap of making excuses because ‘they’re only young, they’ll grow out of it’. Because most of the time they don’t in fact things usually keep getting worse.

Don’t be afraid to reach out to seek help or advice especially if you’re experiencing minor problems that you are concerned about.

The sooner you nip issues in the bud the better the outcome will be to have the best relationship with your dog.

Ronnie on the other hand is waiting very patiently for his ball to be thrown 😍

We love being able to help you and your dogs out giving them the best times 🤪

🤦🏼‍♂️Do not use these!!🤦🏼‍♂️

The Harness. Probably the most popular and common training tool in the dog industry.

It’s easy to see why people use them as they, in theory, are the most comfortable tools for your dogs to wear.

BUT, and if you’ve worked with me personally you would have heard me say this…
When strong men pull heavy vehicles what do they wear to do it?…

A HARNESS! And this is because it’s actually designed to allow the wearer to drive through all 4 limbs generating more pulling power.

If your dog is experiencing behavioural problems such as pulling on the lead, lunging, barking, etc. then there are far better training tools out there!

Please get in touch with Doggy Traynors for your Training and Behavioural needs 💙

Having a dog can be tricky sometimes, especially if you’re a new dog owner or have a dog experiencing behavioural problems such as - pulling on the lead, bad re-call or reactivity. 😡😤🫣

For those of you that have already worked with us you will know that one of our favourite sayings is… “Dogs don’t come with instructions.” And this is true.

Sometimes you need someone to point you in the right direction and assist you in working through your dogs behavioural issues. 👋🏻

It’s never too late to seek help with your dogs!

If you’re having any issues with your dog, no matter the problem, get in touch with Doggy Traynors 💙

This is a perfect example of true socialising! 🤩👍🏻

Scooby does an amazing job of teaching young Reggie social skills and handles it extremely well!

It’s very important for your dogs to experience as many different social environments as possible while they’re young. This allows them to grow up to be calm and confident dogs 👌🏻

It’s become a miserable day today 🌧️ so here is a video of one of our group walks to brighten your day! 🤩

Buddy, Stan, Lottie and Ronnie all love spending their time together socialising and being stimulated both mentally and physically 👌🏻

This video is also great to show how dogs communicate & set boundaries as shown by Ronnie vocalising to buddy when he has the stick. This is often mistaken for a dog being ‘aggressive’ or ‘nasty’ but they are just simply communicating and setting boundaries.

As seen Ronnie is more than happy to let Buddy have the stick when he gets to it first. Stan on the other hand… well Stan is just cheeky Stan 🤣. Lottie absolutely loves chasing the other dogs trying to keep up with them (even with her little legs)

We wouldn’t have them any other way 💙

🐕 Let’s talk about motivation and rewards for dogs 🐕

All dogs are different.
I don’t mean just breeds and colours but their personalities are also different.

This means you could have 2 dogs of the same breed but either one could be motivated and stimulated by entirely different things.

Motivation is usually based on what stimulates the dog most, examples are:

Prey drive 🐇🐿️🐑
Praise (affection) drive 🤗🥰
Toy drive 🎾⚽️🪢
Food drive 🍖🥩🥓

When training any dog you first want to find what motivates them in order to reward them for their good behaviours. Some dogs don’t get stimulated by any of the above which makes it harder to influence their behaviours. This is where compulsion techniques are favoured.

Food is the most common and easy reward to use, followed by Toys then Praise.

If you’re struggling to motivate your dog outside try using the reward only in those environments, for example:
If your dog loves food in the house try not to overly reward them unless they do something you really like or want to see more of, save it for outside. This way I may help develop their motivation more.

You can also give them set meal times instead of leaving their food down all day. This sometimes causes dogs to get complacent with food which decreases its value & reward factor.

For any help you need feel free to contact us. 😁

🦮 Yesterday I was walking one of my long time customers.

A women approaching in the opposite direction spotted my dog off lead and nervously asked:

“Can you put that dog on a lead”

At first I was taken back and a little offended but I replied:

“Yes Ofcourse, are you scared of dogs?”

The women replied :

“Yes, I’m absolutely terrified of dogs.”

Naturally for us as dog owners/lovers it’s hard for us to understand other people who don’t share the same views, values & passion for dogs.

As human beings and RESPONSIBLE DOG OWNERS we HAVE to RESPECT that some people may not want our dogs running over or being near them & this is ok, everyone is different.

This same ideology should be considered when another dog owner kindly asks you to put your dog on a lead -

Not all dogs want to play, socialise or be jumped all over. This doesn’t mean they are dangerous or aggressive it simply means that they enjoy their own personal space and don’t appreciate boisterous dogs annoying them. This is ok. Some dogs might be in training or nervous around other more excitable dogs. This too is ok.

Just because your dog is friendly it doesn’t mean they have the right to run around doing what they want and jumping all over other people & dogs. In terms of dog behaviour this is actually very rude behaviour and usually leads to incidents happening that can be easily avoided.

As RESPONSIBLE dog owners we have a duty to understand our individual dog and be CONSIDERATE to other people & dogs.

If you’re out walking your dog off lead and see someone approaching with a dog on lead. Please don’t wait until the last second, recall your dog and put them on a lead and then ask if they can say hello.

Please always be RESPECTFUL, CONSIDERATE & RESPONSIBLE when it comes to having your dog out in public spaces. 💙
