I am so happy to finally be able to announce that I have received a scholarship from Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust - QEST to further my Collar Making training and gain The Society of Master Saddlers saddle fitting qualification.

The Scholarship will help me to further my training with John McDonald, perfecting my collar and harness making skills. As well as attending the The Society of Master Saddlers saddle fitting course, which I attended last week completing my theory with 100% marks, and will be returning to complete the practical in the future.

The Scholarship also allows me a place on the QEST and Cockpit Professional Development Programme, which will teach me valuable skills that will help me to build my business and meet other like minded people.

I am extremely grateful to everyone who has helped me along with my Saddlery training journey, especially Chris Taylor and Louise Palmer at Saddlers Den who have taught me everything I know.

Me and Sam from Garrett Saddlers both attended a weeks long collar making course at John McDonald Collar and Harness Makers. We learnt how to make bespoke driving collars using the traditional techniques, tools, and materials.

Collar making is an endangered craft, and there are very few people in the UK who can make and repair collars.
I’m hoping to be able to offer bespoke handmade collars in the near future 🙂
