🖤 Morris wasn’t too fussed about fetch when he first came to class a few weeks ago, he now thinks he’s an ace gundog!!!

People think puppies are easy and many businesses that offer training get their new and inexperienced staff to do the puppy training. Here at WaggaWuffins we understand the importance of getting it right from the start and we are also aware of how easy it can be to screw up a puppy if you don't know what you're doing, especially with those puppies that didn't read the puppy training books, so we have Jane do all the puppy stuff.

Friday 20th September 2024 6pm till 9pm
At WaggaWuffins Canine College

This is a 3 hour Presentation which will cover :

✅ Understanding Puppy Socialisation and Habituation to help develop a socially competent puppy
✅ Understanding emotions and behaviour
✅ Obedience or play, how you should be training your puppy
✅How to prevent problems
✅Understanding puppy behaviour and development stages
✅How to handle fear, build confidence and develop resilience.
✅ Understanding breed specific behaviours and the development of behaviour problems

There will be Theory, Practical Demonstrations and a Q and A

£36 per person (no dogs to attend this presentation)

This talk will be helpful for new puppy owners, people planning on getting a puppy, people with older puppies who are struggling and pet professionals looking for a better understanding of working with puppies.

Roby can be difficult to walk around other dogs due to his over exuberance

This leads to jumping, lunging and the all too familiar kangaroo walk 🦘

It’s just all abit much to deal with!

Today we focused on a good walking position using:
• a good verbal marker “yes” for the correct behaviour
• correct reward placement
• structure around HOW we walk and a release word to break from this structure
• tension on the lead being Roby’s job to manage, which he did so well!!

Therefore ….. count the dogs we walked past with no issues! Including one on either side of us while we walked up the middle of the (quiet) road to keep up our flow

18th August

More water!!

We worked on exepextstions around the water, sending the dogs past the pond rather than into it!

Stop and directions past and away from the water, as well as memory retrieves into the water too!

Swimming over to the beach and the reeds to finish off for the more experienced dogs, the other two had a longer swim

Ronnie the puppy came out after the workshop for his first big explore and a paddle in the water

10th August and even the humans had to work with distractions!!

Acrobatic Jetskis!! Weren't they amazing??

As you can see from one of the photos, I lost everyone's attention!!

Woods and water continued from where we left off last time with working on expectations around water, taking directions away from and into the woods, and some crossing ditches skills thrown in too

Hopefully we'll have another and progress on again!!

11th August - Simulated shoot day

This was an invite only day

The dogs were able to listen to gunshot as clay shooting took place in front of us, they also saw dummies coming off the launcher, and being thrown into the area behind the shooting guns

They had to wait until the shooting had finished before they could go to retrieve the dummies

Some of the retrieves were done in areas that the dogs hadn't seen, so they had to trust their pilots!

Hunting through the cover, heading into and past the tree line of the woods and also working through ferns down into a dip which was out of sight!

Fresh from collection from I Launcher and straight into the field to test!

Paul made my first 2 shot launcher about 8 years ago and although it is still going, I now have a more modern version to use alongside

We used it coming towards us and away from us with dogs who have used the other one before

They loved being the first testers!!

Yesterday we were at a competition held by our lovely friends K9 Pursuits Dog Day Care and Training Centre

This is such a fun show, we love it!

🤎 Morse did a training round to keep building on his skills 🥎
🖤 Clarke had a slight rush into the ring and was very giddy during his round, which was hard work to keep a lid on! he got 4th 🟢
🤎 Heath was brought out of the veteran cupboard that he’s put himself in recently to try some new music and work around a costume, he got 3rd 🟡

🇪🇸 Pinto from our competitive class was also at the competition and got a lovely 2nd place! 🔵

🖤🤍 Jonah from our competitive class was at a different competition and over 2 days got a 3rd and a 1st 🟡🔴👏

Finch has discovered the apple tree and now can choose which ones he would like to pick 🤔

As you can see, he’s very particular and will only keep just the right one! 👌🏻

The other dogs get to benefit from his cast offs 🍏
