🎄 Class Christmas Party 🎄

Touch and go with storm Darragh the day before

but we managed to fit in some of the games:
• letter to Santa scurry
• snowball stop challenge
• Santa sack steadiness
• around the north pole
• snowman drag race UK …. Including a double or quits on carrot retrieving!!

Lots of great fun, prizes, Christmas jumpers & lovely cakes made by Emma Samantha Atherton

Finished off the afternoon with great hospitality from The Holts Arms - The Foot in the heated outdoor area, lovely dog friendly pub!

A few weeks ago we had a cold game workshop

What does that mean?

It means that the dogs have got to a certain level with their training and want to take the next step around gundog training

We use birds from a previous shoot day and set up scenarios around obedience, memory, hunting and retrieving the birds

We explain the difference between transitioning from gundog dummies to birds, the issues that the dogs face, how we can set them up for success but how some things might be difficult

All of the dogs did really well and progressed through the day, gaining new skills and confidence!

🎶 🐾 🪩💃🐶 Super Sunday 🐶 💃 🪩 🐾 🎶

Today was our Heelwork to Music workshop at
Scarisbrick Village Hall

We loved the venue which gave us lots of space to work on
• heel positions - what are they & some ways to teach
• transitions - what are they and how to use them to change between positions
• within positions - how you can move (not just forwards)
• movement - the importance of it and what we’re looking for
• music beat - without a dog (easy!) … WITH a dog (whole different ball game!)
• musical interpretation - what is it, why we need it and how to do it

Everyone worked so well with varying levels of experience, looking forward to the next one which will provide progression on those heel positions and movement!

We all enjoyed chatting between sessions, lots of tea and biscuits as well as soup and crusty rolls!

Young Dogs …. Retriever Edition

Sika is 4.5 months old

Skills in this video:
• Self control while the toy is dropped - he stayed sat still
• Coming away from distractions - he turned away from the toy when asked without needing to be dragged
• Listening skills around distractions - he was able to sit at the top even though he still had his mind on the toy
• Completing a task around distractions - he was able to ignore me AND a line of other dogs!
• Fulfilling his breed requirements - memory and fetching skills…. By fulfilling breed needs you will find less unwanted behaviours occurring

I always joke about my Friday class and say that they’re in the Friday slot for a reason…. So that I can go straight home and drink!! 🍷

But… here they are working in teams, and doing a great job with exercises set 💪🏻

Featuring non gundog breeds:

🐾 Denny - collie X kelpie - who loves being a pointy eared gundog!! Here’s a surprising fact about Denny, he’s been reactive around dogs, but look at him here!

🐾 Peggy - Jack Russell - a little pocket rocket who knows her own mind (like all terriers!) and can keep up with everyone!

Gundog breeds:

🐾 Arlo - cocker spaniel - loves him mum and running really fast!! Always tries his best!

🐾 Robbie - golden retriever - tries his best, has the tigger boing! And sometimes steals other people’s retrieves!

🐾 Indie - chocolate lab - the matriarch, knows the exercises better than I do, will always stop for snacks mid retrieve, but the girls still got it!

Last week we did a photoshoot with Fur & Fables for My Anxious Dog UK

Finch was super cool about his job and we got a lovely gift bag from Kerry (📸) and some freebies from Sarah (🟡) including a lead sleeve and this cool squeezy treat tube!

You can fill this with squeezy cheese or meaty paste and squeeze it out for rewards 🧀 🥩

It’s also on a super recoil clip so it’s easy access 👌🏻

Sunday Funday Workshop!

Always helped by the glorious weather ☀️

Team brown had their morning workshop today 🤎

Focussing on
• Retrieve delivery - with homework!
• Increasing distance in retrieves
• Areas of confidence to move onto blind retrieves
• Teaching the skill of sweeping
• Everyone even tried cold game retrieves! This included talking about the technicalities and techniques of picking up a bird in comparison to a toy or a dummy

There were LOTS of great questions today, really loved this workshop and want to build on all of the skills next time!! 💪🏻

It doesn’t matter if your dog is a pet or an active working dog, or anything inbetween 🐾

All of these skills that we worked on today use your dogs’ pre built in software 💻

If you’re not pushing the right buttons for your dog and their breed, they will lack connection with you and this leads to self employed pet gundog breeds:
• running off on walks
• chasing
• hunting
• being destructive at home….

There is nothing worse than a self employed dog!!!

I live with 6 🐾 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾 high energy gundog breeds

Anyone who has met them, knows that they are go go go!! 💨

And although they do work on shoots, for more of the year they are pets who have no problems with:

• going on normal walks 🐕
