What a stunning photo of the fantastic Mr Fudge, basking in the cool, crisp afternoon sunshine today! Captured beautifully by our talented Merton Vision volunteers, he once again stole the hearts of all the riders who came to use the Equicise. What a star he is! 🌟

What a wonderful surprise! Today, we were honoured to welcome the Mayor of Merton, Councillor Slawek Szczepanski, to Wimbledon Village Stables. He stopped by to promote his upcoming Charity Ball, which will be held on the 22nd of March at the prestigious All England Lawn Tennis Club in Wimbledon.

We are delighted to contribute to this fantastic event by donating a prize for the raffle, which will raise funds for two outstanding local charities: Christian Care and Brain Cancer Research. Supporting these causes is so important, and we wish Councillor Szczepanski every success with the event!

Happy New Year!

As 2024 comes to a close, we want to take a moment to reflect on what has been a truly memorable year at Wimbledon Village Stables.

We are immensely grateful for the unwavering support of our horse owners, members, and riders — including all those from overseas. A heartfelt thank you also goes to our incredible team of Instructors, whose dedication and hard work continue to make everything we do possible.

It’s been a year full of fun and celebrations! From four fantastic dressage competitions — where it’s been wonderful to see so much progress — to our pizza party, summer BBQ, and chilli night, there’s never been a dull moment. Our incredible Charity Ball in March was another highlight, bringing the community together for an unforgettable evening of fun and fundraising. We’re already looking forward to this year’s ball and the magic it promises to bring!

July’s dressage demonstration was another standout, as was our 50th sponsored ride, complete with fancy dress — a huge thank you to everyone who took part, including those from the wider village who joined the fun for the first time.

We were thrilled to win the Merton Business Award for Commitment to the Community this year, recognising the work we do to give back. Together, we raised an incredible £35,200 for charity: £2,100 at the Carol Concert, £12,600 from the Sponsored Ride, £14,500 at the Ball, £6,000 from my crazy Sky Dive!
None of this would have been possible without our hardworking Events Team, who put so much energy into organising and coordinating these occasions. We’re also deeply grateful to the businesses and individuals who generously sponsored our events throughout the year.

Behind the scenes, there are so many people whose expertise and efforts keep the stables running smoothly. Our farrier Sean Roche, saddlers Vicky Delasalle and Trevor Weller, and PJ McMahon and his outstanding team of vets, to Damian Kosmala (builder), Suzie Robertson (plumber), Lisa Fox (training), Kristina Daily (horse transport), Sarah Perry (caterer), and Barry Smyth (B-electric) — we couldn’t do it without you. Special thanks also to Tristan Cass and the team at All Your Junk, Frosbury Farm (supplier), Sandra, Amy Cullingham, Paul at Manor Farm Stables, Sean Roche, Farrier and Gertie Daly at Irish Sports Equine, for their invaluable contributions.

This year, we also said a heartfelt goodbye to our darling horse Pod. His undeniable long history with our family and the stables makes his loss all the more poignant. His mother, Dream Days, was one of the first horses to arrive at the stables in 1980. Pod was born 12 years later and spent 30 wonderful years bringing joy and love to our lives. We are so grateful for the memories he gave us and for the many lives he touched during his time here. Pod will be remembered forever and always hold a special place in our hearts.

As we say goodbye to 2024, we want to wish everyone a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2025. We can’t wait to see what the new year brings and look forward to welcoming you all back soon.

With our very best wishes,
Carol, Caroline, and families

Dear Carol and Caroline, Thank you so much to you and everyone at Wimbledon Village Stables for your wonderful fundraising totalling E2,130 for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. We are extremely thankful for your continued support. We hope you and all those that attended enjoyed the Christmas Carol Concert. We are seeing truly exciting progress at The Royal Marsden, the hospital continues to lead the world as a cancer research hospital and run over 900 clinical trials every year, pioneering new treatments and doing all it can to extend, improve, and save more lives. It really is thanks to supporters like you that we can continue to invest in the latest innovations and improve outcomes for patients here in the UK and around the world. On behalf of everyone at The Royal Marden Cancer Charity, thank you so much for your continued support and helping to make a difference to the lives of cancer patients and their families. If you have any questions about the work you support, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. With my best wishes, Ellie Davies

This evening, we had the pleasure of welcoming the riders from Hyde Park RDA for a special lesson on the Equicise. Caroline, Claire, and Jess all had a fabulous time, with Claire especially delighted to experience canter for the very first time. Smiles lit up the room as this wonderful group of riders and volunteers enjoyed the session, Jess is pictured here with instructor Anni. It was capped off with a delicious cake made by Hilary to keep everyone refreshed. A truly heartwarming evening!

Today we revisited Park Lane Stables to see its amazing refurbishment —how far they’ve come! It was wonderful to reconnect with our friend, the legendary Natalie O’Rourke, who continues to do inspiring work with Riding for the Disabled. A heartfelt thank you to Natalie for showing Caroline, Claire, and I around; it’s a joy to see this incredible place flourish, knowing the difference it makes.”

It was a pleasure to welcome Paul Kohler, our newly elected MP, to Wimbledon Village Stables today! Paul had lots of fun trying out the Equicise horse simulator with Caroline, learning a few equestrian skills, and then meeting our beloved Bertie. It was wonderful to show him around, introduce him to some of our fantastic members, and share what makes our stables so unique. Looking forward to more community visits!

Excited (and slightly nervous!) to be speaking at the Association of British Riding Schools conference this Monday, where I’ll be discussing how to build a positive work environment and retain staff. Over the years, we’ve had some truly incredible people as part of the team at Wimbledon Stables. I know many of you still stay connected with us here, so please do say hi and wish me luck! 🐴💪
