Getting a horse to be free with their feet and move forward if they are nervous is the best thing you can do! National racehorse week🏇Day 5- We saved the best until last- The late, great Forgive Intrusion (‘Gin’) trained by Colin Tizzard and Chris Lawson. An unbelievably tough horse with a cracking sense of humour, Gin would pop a five bar gate out hunting off just a few strides of trot. After retiring from racing, Gin started his new career as a hunt staff horse. He wasn’t everyone’s ride, but Gin and Hugh developed a mutual respect for one another, so much so that we brought him home in 2020. We have had so many wonderful thoroughbreds. Some never made it to the track, others have had long successful careers. Some of them were utterly shocking race horses! But of all of them, this chap was the most special. Not much of a racehorse, but and incredible hunter, comedian and friend. We miss you Gin, King of horses 👑🤍 #retrainingofracehorses #lovetheracehorsecomp #nationalracehorseweek #ror #racehorsetohunter #hunthorse #hunthorses #trailhunting #britishracing #dorset
A soft horse is a horse that works with you, not for you. #beaconhillequine #horsemanship #horseman #horsemanshiptraining #younghorse #warmblood
A confidence building outing for ex racehorse ‘Henry’, who has very little jumping experience. He tried really hard for us ✨
Ex hurdler ‘Mickey’ getting some show jumping practice in ✨
Just a snippet of some start of session groundwork. Hugh begins working a horse like this as it gives him a good understanding of how the horse will respond when questions are asked and pressure is applied. #beaconhillequine
It’s no secret that we love a thoroughbred at Beacon Hill Equine. Here are just a few of the wonderful racehorses that we have had the pleasure of retraining. Please do get in touch if you need any help with your ex racers!
After much deliberation, we have decided to name our foal ‘Mongo’.
Thank you all very much for the name suggestions!
