Lots of tanks overheating out there at the moment. I’m sure you will all know this by now but here are some basic tips on how to keep 🆒.
Open windows ✅
Point a fan (any fan) at the largest surface area of the tank ✅
Open cabinet doors✅
Add an airline from skimmer to outside the window (if possible)✅
Increase surface agitation with wavemakers✅
If cover glasses or evaporation covers are present allow gaps and blow fans to access water surfaces✅
Frozen sealed bottles of water into the sump ✅
Temps up to 27c are fine short term, however if you see your temps getting above 28c then you must take more actions to cool the water asap.
If you are in trouble, please do reach out as I have chillers available for hire or purchase.
Be cool folks. 😎

Unsuccessful operation. 😞
I had a tough job to work with this week when a rouge harlequin tusk fish decided to turn into a fish destroyer.
The target fish was a precious anampses lennardi and one of spectacular size and colour- a real head turner.
With vast amounts of large grown out corals there was simply no way to use conventional methods, and fish traps were not successful.
With one silver belly wrasse beaten to death enough was enough so I opted for draining the tank down as much as possible to remove as much room for the fish to escape… but no… the harlequin was still nowhere to be seen. Luckily I had a micro re**er with me (Abbas you legend) and he didn’t hesitate to strip off and step in to see if he could persuade the tusk to come out from behind a forest of plating acropora.
To our amazement the tusk was still nowhere to be found. As time with the reef exposed dry running out we decided to catch the lennardi instead relocating the fish to a smaller aquarium whilst we worked on phase two of tusk removal.
Sometimes fish can just be arseholes.
Fingers crossed we can catch the tusk so Lenny can go back home where she belongs.
