Vetkin are delighted to bring you a 2 day taping CPD course with none other than Solange Mikail, Head of the Equine Physiotherapists at the Tokyo Olympics next year.

The MTC Vetkin Course introduces the concept of veterinary taping in horses. Attendees will learn the basics of different taping applications on horses as well as humans.

Furthermore, we will focus on different application possibilities such as:

Activating the blood and lymph circulation for swelling and haematomas

Influencing the fascia and muscles

Treatment of scars, tendon injuries and inflammation

Treatment of injuries on the musculoskeletal system

Improvement of muscle function and supporting joint function

On completion, participant receives a MTC certificate and will be able to use the technique in daily practice.

New Instructor for our Vetkin Equine Taping course is Solange Mikail who is organising the physiotherapy at the Tokyo Olympics next year 😀

To organise a Vetkin Taping Course in the UK we have to get an instructor from The Netherlands to teach this 2 day course. This makes our courses more expensive than UK based Equine Kinesiology courses. Vetkin insists that we only have trained Equine Bodyworkers that can take the course, this is because the course is designed for
professionals. We also need at least 12 - 14 people to make this viable. If you want to be put on the list for the next date, please get in touch. As soon as I get to 10 participants, I can a date booked with Vetkin. 😊

HORSES HAVE THINNER SKIN AND MAY FEEL MORE PAIN THAN HUMANS

For those who think horses don't feel pain as we do - you could be right. They may feel far more. Australian TV programme 'Catalyst' asked vet pathologist Dr. Lydia Tong to look at the differences between horse and human skin, something that has surprisingly never been studied before. She found the epidermis (the outer layer of the skin) is thinner in horses and they have a higher density of 'pain sensing' nerve endings than we do. So what happens to the great whip debate now I wonder?

This information was revealed as part of an interesting film looking at the use of the whip in racing and is well worth a watch. Professor Paul McGreevy is also interviewed here, one of the authors of the article I shared a couple of days ago analysing whip use in UK racing. The information about the horse's skin starts around 12.30.
