🐾 Meet Alfie, the Brave Vizsla! 🐾
This handsome Hungarian Vizsla recently came to see us after a spirited play session with his best buddy took a rough turn. Poor Alfie fractured his left upper canine tooth—an injury more common than you might think in active, playful dogs. 😢
Dental X-rays showed the fracture extended into the pulp—the sensitive inner part of the tooth that contains nerves and blood vessels. This kind of injury can cause pain, infection, and long-term discomfort if left untreated.
In cases like Alfie’s, the best option is removal of the damaged tooth. While it sounds dramatic, canine teeth aren’t essential for chewing—dogs adapt quickly! More importantly, removing the tooth prevents infection, abscesses, and ongoing pain. 💉🦷
We’re happy to report that Alfie sailed through surgery and is already back to his cheeky, tail-wagging self—minus one tooth, but no less adorable! 💪🐶
You'll see Alfie recovering well from his general anaesthetic (GA) - sometimes our pets' temperature drops throughout a GA, so we get them all snuggly to ensure they warm up quickly.
💬 If you ever notice a broken tooth, facial swelling, or your pet avoiding certain foods, give us a call.
Dental health is just as important for pets as it is for us humans!
