Howdy Pardner!

Dogs played an important role in the life of cowboys, helping them to herd cattle. Have you heard of the Cowboy Corgi ? (Australian Cattle Dog crossed with the Pembroke Welsh Corgi).

Other popular breeds with cowboys included the Border Collie, Australian Shepherd and the Australian Cattle Dog.

Labradoodles do not get a mention- we think however that Max rocked the Cowboy look at his ShutterDog photo shoot.

We have had a photo shoot with ShutterDog photography before. This time we wanted some pictures of me, Shirley and Kyra our Portuguese dog.
The experience was amazing and there was no hard sell.
We just loved the photos so much that we bought them all with no persuasion at all. Thank you Ruth and Chris for your beautiful photography.

A Belgian Malinois and German Shepherd mix, also known as a Malinois X, is a hybrid dog that is intelligent, loyal, and energetic. They can be great family dogs, but they require firm, early socialization and training. They are loyal, protective, energetic and intelligent.

We loved meeting Eva in the ShutterDog studio.

You have got to love a dog who is comfortable around a camera. Lucy was so comfortable with Chris and his camera, that she chose to sit on his back.

A dog’s whiskers aren’t just for show.
They help a dog sense its surroundings, maintain balance and even use air currents to determine how far people or animals are from them. They are technically called vibrissae.

Reports abound that dogs with shaved whiskers tend to have an impaired sense of balance. Even though whiskers are classified as sensory organs, they are often clipped during grooming.
In some countries, it is actually illegal to cut off a dog’s vibrissae.

Solo here is proudly sporting fine whiskers.....

A dog's different coloured eyes are caused by a condition called heterochromia, which is a result of variations in the amount of melanin in the iris. Heterochromia can be inherited or acquired (adult dogs can develop the condition due to injury or underlying conditions such as glaucoma or cataracts).

Some breeds are more likely to develop heterochromia. - The Siberian Husky for example is well known for having this trait.

Whatever the reason, we think it just adds to the striking appearance of these ShutterDogs.

The Kennel Club produces a list of British and Irish native breeds that are considered to be vulnerable due to their declining registration numbers. The Welsh Terrier is on this list, with just 331 registered puppies in 2023.

We were lucky enough to photograph Welsh Terrier Alfie during the summer. The breed was originally bred for hunting foxes, rodents and badgers and still has the strong prey drive associated with all terriers.

However, they are happy, fun-loving, intelligent dogs who are great around children and they make wonderful family pets. Alfie was an absolute star at his photo shoot and is a great ambassador for this rare breed.

Not all dogs are comfortable in a photographic studio despite our best efforts to give them the time and space to settle. Mika is a rescue dog and her history means that she is sometimes cautious in new surroundings. At ShutterDog we want to capture photos of your dog looking happy so we went outside with Mika.

She relaxed and we captured her lovely personality.
