Dear Clients,

I regret to inform you that I have decided to close my business. My last day of business will be on 31st July 2023. After that date, Beckie Jade Equestrian Services will no longer be offering any services. The decision to close down this business was not an easy one and I enjoyed the relationships with my clients over the past year.

I would like to thank all of my clients that I have done business with over the past year. Beckie Jade Equestrian Services could not have been as successful as it was without your loyalty.

Beckie x

Hi everyone,
Just a quick post to say a huge thank you to those of you who Interact with my posts, tag me in potential jobs and recommending me through word of mouth. This has helped my business grow- So I really appreciate it!

As I am single-handedly attending jobs, I have to carefully plan my day from travelling to and from jobs, the job itself and toilet/food breaks 🤦🏻‍♀️
As many jobs require morning and evening I do my utmost to try squeeze you all in, but sometimes this isn't possible if I am housesitting. So I apologise if I have to swap days or times.

The further in advance you book me, ideally the better so I can meet your requirements.

February has very limited availability..

Get booked in for March 📖

❄️WINTER TIPS FOR YOU AND YOUR HORSE❄️

🐴For your horse🐴
🌨Stock up on hay/haylage and bedding at the start of winter, so you are prepared if the weather takes a turn for the worst
❄️Insulate water pipes to prevent freezing and burst pipes. Invest in a new plastic dustbin to fill with water in the evening so you have access to fresh water in the morning no matter what the temperature is
🌨Make sure your horse has one or two breathable turnout rugs. Ideally, one lighter weight rug and one heavier rug at minimum. This will help keep your horse warm and comfortable
❄️Select a good quality bedding material which promotes your horses health and well-being. If they're going to be spending a large amount of time in the stable, you want to make sure you are taking care of their respiratory system, hooves and joints in particular
🌨Invest in a drying rug. These are excellent for speeding up the drying process on cold, damp days where horses never seem to dry off properly. These are also handy to pop on a sweaty horse after exercise or after bathing ahead of a competition
❄️Clip your horse appropriately for its workload. This will make grooming easier and will also reduce the likelihood of sweating during exercise which could cause a chill once the horse has cooled off afterwards
🌨Towel dry your horses wet legs to help reduce the risk of mud fever
❄️Keep the same rugs on in the stable and outside, only change if necessary. This helps to save time and keeps the horse warm. It is also useful for drying wet rugs
🌨If it snows, grease up your horses hooves to stop snow balling up. You can use any kind of lubricating substance for this from baby oil to vegetable oil
❄️Feed a soaked fibre feed to increase water intake when the temperatures drop. You can also use warm water when it's really cold - this has the added benefit of increasing fibre intake which produces heat during digestion
🌨Make sure you are defrosting your horses water and they have adequate supply to water at all times. Sudden changes in weather can lead to colic, from reduced exercise and fluid intake

🎅For you🎅
❄️Invest in some winter breeches to keep you warm and comfortable. These tend to be fleece lined and water resistant and are a must for yard work and riding on colder days
🌨Get yourself a pair of good quality waterproof over-trousers to wear around the yard. These will keep you dry and act as a wind block to keep you warm when doing outside jobs
❄️Make sure you have a yard kettle and a supply of tea and coffee (a flash is also just as good). It's very handy to warm up with after a wintery ride and for when everything is frozen
🌨Stock up on grit/salt for when icy weather strikes. It is essential for keeping your yard safe for both you and your horse
❄️Keep a small heater in your tack room if possible. This can prevent tack from becoming damp and mouldy and will help dry off wet equipment
🌨Be safe! Only ride in the winter when the ground is suitable and make use of reflective gear to be visible

And finally, remember each day is one step closer to Spring!

BANG!

What's that?
Bang-Bang! Oh, Hark,
The guns are shooting in the dark!
Little guns and big ones too,
Bang–Bang-Bang!
What shall I do?
Mistress, Master, hear me yelp,
I'm out-of-doors, I want your help.
Let me in-oh, LET ME IN
Before those fireworks begin
To shoot again-I can't bear that;
My tail is down, my ears are flat,
I'm trembling here outside the door,
Oh, don't you love me anymore?
I think I'll die with fright
Unless you let me in to-night.
(Shall we let him in, children?)
Ah, now the door is opened wide,
I'm rushing through, I'm safe inside,
The lights are on, it's warm and grand-
Mistress, let me lick your hand
Before I slip behind the couch.
There I'll hide myself and crouch
In safety till the BANGS are done-
Then to my kennel I will run
And guard you safely all the night
Because you understood my fright.

❓ Did you know that horses don’t feel the cold in the same way that we do ❓

🌡⬇With temperatures dropping it’s likely you’re adding on an extra layer of clothing. However, a healthy horse doesn’t tend to feel the cold until the temperature falls below 5°C, above this they are able to keep themselves warm without using too much energy. Therefore, it’s important we don’t rug our horses based on how cold we are feeling.

At this time of year, the temperature can vary at different parts of the day, so although it may feel cooler at 7am a few hours later it can be a lot warmer!

Rug or don’t rug, according to the needs of each individual horse. There are different factors to consider, so for more information and to learn more about how your horse naturally keeps warm visit: https://www.bhs.org.uk/horse-care-and-welfare/health-care-management/seasonal-care/rugging/
