Walpole 'Codicote' Reptiles

Walpole 'Codicote' Reptiles Formerly based in Codicote, Herts. We are an unofficial rehome centre now based in West Norfolk. Codicote Reptiles is the home of Matthew Payne and Jade Finnecy.

We have been keeping exotics for a number of years and have gathered a wealth of knowledge and experience. We keep several species here including a variety of snakes, lizards, amphibians, chelonia and invertebrates. Aside from our love of the cold blooded we also have a soft spot for furries! We have 3 house cats and Rico our chihuahua! ENTERTAINMENT SERVICES
We are fully licensed (ANI/8594) and i

nsured to take our animals out to meet and greet, both at public events and private functions! We are available for any function, from birthday and private parties to scout troop and school talks! We can bring a variety of animals (all of which can be handled) including snakes, lizards, amphibians and inverts to our events and we pride ourselves on giving the best experience we can. If you are interested in booking us, or would like any further information about this service please feel free to get in touch. REHOMING
We take in many animals here which arrive for a number of reasons. Many of which require veterinary treatment as well as space, housing, feeding, cleaning and general care and attention. Animals left with us will be rehomed once we are happy with their condition (NEVER before, no exceptions) We will always put a small rehoming fee on them to help us continue to operate. AVAILABILITY
Our current availability list will always be pinned to the top of our page. We will not rehome any animal that isn't ready for its new home and we reserve the right to halt adoptions at any time if for any reason we become unhappy with the condition. We would much rather keep an animal then let it go before it's ready. Any animal will have spent a minimum of 4 weeks with us. REPTILE SITTING
We also offer an in house pet sitting service. If you have a number of animals and boarding simply isn't an option, we can offer to look after your pets in your own home! Rates for this service are dependant on distance/ job description so feel free to message us with what you'd like us to do and we can quote you a price. Prices are negotiable for this service. We obviously specialise in reptiles but we're more than happy to look after any animals you may have. From dogs and cats to small furries and birds. HELP & ASSISTANCE
We're more than happy to share our knowledge and advise where we can. We can also take in or even temporarily board snakes with minor health issues, non-feeders or aggressive snakes to try and get them back on track (veterinary and food costs as well as a small contribution to our cause will need to be met by owner in the case of temporary boarding). We have a very high success rate for finding the feed response in the most stubborn of snakes! We also have an incredible reptile vet who shows a great love and passion for the animals. CAN YOU HELP? Yes! If you would like to help us continue our work. We are always grateful for any donations. Whether it be enclosures or equipment that you may have spare, or our PayPal is set up to [email protected]. All donations go directly to the rehome and rescue animals we have here :)

REVIEWS
We are always very pleased to hear of your experiences with us. Any feedback on how we can improve our service is always very much appreciated! There is a review section to our page which we are very proud of. If you have had an experience with us, feel free to leave your thoughts there for others to read :)

Feel free to message us anytime :)
Viewings of our animals are happily organised on request. Matt & Jade x

We've just been out locally to collect this little Gecko that found its way to the UK on a pallet from Spain.

It has, unfortunately, a freshly dropped tail and an open wound on its back right foot. We have hydrated it, put antiseptic on its wounds, and set it up for its stay.

Hopefully, it hasn't been stressed out too much by its ordeal and will settle in nicely. We'll see if it wants to eat once it's had a bit of time to relax.

49 days after its initial pick up, 39 days here with us. This Leopard Gecko has moved out of the hospital wing (our bedroom) today and into an enclosure in the animal room :)

It had a difficult time and still has some weight to gain, but we are not concerned about it long-term anymore. It's been an absolute warrior and has never shown signs of giving up.

Enjoy your proper setup! You've earned it :)

Only two animals remain in super quarantine. The love birds wing is healing well, and it looks like the Boas mite situation is under control. At the moment, everyone's doing well :)

The Blue Tongued Skink we have with us is certainly capable of being rather a huffy individual. However, he does soon calm down and can be picked up without any problems.

He's a great feeder, too. He particularly likes quail's eggs, cockroaches, morio worms, and raw meat! He's an absolute beauty!

He will be looking for his new home once our rehomes restart in the new year. Along with the two Leopard Geckos we currently have in quarantine.

I went into theatre today for a rather uncomfortable injection right into my hip joint.

Hopefully, we'll start to see the movement coming back to my leg that gets me back to work!

I'd like to thank everyone who donated to our cause over the time I've been signed off. You've meant the animals here got what they needed without me having to worry about anything.

Thank you all for your support!

Last chance this week to get any enclosures etc we have available down to Hertfordshire for collection.

We also have a baby Crested Gecko and Pastel Royal Python looking for their new homes!

All enclosures are sold as seen, so if you'd like any more pictures, please ask :)

Alternatively, collection from us in West Norfolk!

This week is your last chance to reserve animals through us for adoption in 2024. We will not be releasing animals over the Christmas period unless prearranged :)

These two are both settling in well and feeding, which is awesome.

Handling a little better today, too, so hopefully, that was down to the stress of the move. They still aren't calm in hand, but the improvement from their arrival is substantial :)

These two are not due to pass quarantine until the new year.

Understandably huffy, but treated.

I will update again in a week or so to see where we stand in relation to ridding this snake of its infestation. Given the mucking about and discomfort. Its temperament is very good.

That's positive, at least :)

They are a massive pain in the arse and show the importance of looking animals over prior to putting them into their quarantine set ups.

Three arrivals have just joined us this evening.

We have two more Leopard Geckos. Body shape wise, both look OK. Both are not happy being handled at the moment, so we'll let them settle for the night and give them a thorough health check tomorrow.

We've also had a Boa arrive, and upon taking it out ready to go into its quarantine enclosure, it was evident that she has mites. So we've had to set up an emergency enclosure in the 'hospital wing' (our bedroom) to separate it from the other snakes in quarantine.

We've ordered treatment for it, so we will leave it alone to settle until the treatment arrives.

They are all beautiful animals, and hopefully, all will settle well, calm down, and get sorted soon. We will update a little later in the week as to how they're all getting on.

I am absolutely heartbroken to announce that during my daily routines today, I have found this beautiful Crested Gecko has passed away.

He was out and active yesterday and has been showing good signs with us since his arrival, but unfortunately, there was nothing we could do this time.

He was found during a house clearance in an unusable enclosure and taken in by a very kind person. He had a specialist examination prior to arriving with us and has been receiving treatment for eye damage.

I always like to be transparent with the goings on here, which I'm afraid sometimes means sharing news which I'd rather not.

Sleep well, little man. I am so sorry.
