On Monday morning Darcey and Dylan took part in one of our horse care sessions where they helped groom our ponies, pick out their feet, put their rugs on and then learnt how to clean their tack and tack boxes. Both Dylan and Darcey were awarded with their Grade 2 Horse Care certificates and badges. Congratulations to you both! We are super proud of you both.

On Saturday we congratulated Tilly, Jake, Heidi, Louis, Olivia and Joey on all completing their Grade 1 Riding proficiency tests. All these riders have been practising over the last few weeks on sitting happily in walk and halt, and in changing the rein. They have all held the reins and demonstrated a number of exercises such as standing up in their stirrups, leaning out to reach a toy and drop it off, or reaching forward to touch their ponies ears. We are very happy and proud they are all making great progress!

Last but very much not least, Annie S is part of our horse welfare team, and our safeguarding officer, and a long standing Trustee - here she tells us why she joined New Yatt RDA
"In common with many people who volunteer with RDA, I was a pony mad little girl and teenager. However, as I got a bit older other responsibilities and commitments meant I wasn't able to continue to ride or have much contact with ponies. The love of horses never diminished so when I retired from being a social worker for over 30 years, and I knew that New Yatt RDA was close to where I live, I applied to be a Volunteer. I have been with the Group for nearly 7 years and a Trustee for ?? years. It's a real privilege to see the enormous benefits that riding can give our riders and to be closely involved in our ponies' health and wellbeing. In addition, I've loved making new friends and continuing to learn from the experience of the other Trustees and Coaches in the Group." photo updated!

Kate is a coach trustee and secretary at New Yatt
“ When I moved to HK in 1996 I wanted to volunteer and having ridden as a child I chose RDA where I made friends and enjoyed learning about the benefits of riding therapy. I then had three kids and Max was diagnosed with autism- so when he was offered riding therapy I rejoined RDA as a weekly helper. On moving back to UK I made it a mission to find local groups and helped at Rossway and now at New Yatt after moving to Oxford in 2018. I trained as a coach and have found it a wonderful learning experience - now as a Trustee I am finding out how much work goes on behind the scenes to keep the group functioning in a healthy and positive way. I have met many horses and friends over the years and always look forward to my RDA days.”
