Congratulations to Bailey and Florrie who completed their Puppy School Training and Socialisation course. It was a small group but that meant lots of extra attention for those attending. Lovely people and lovely puppies who all did really well ❤️

It's always lovely to know people have enjoyed my classes. I love the last line here too as its important all pups have a good time too. I love seeing them grow in confidence as the 6 week course progresses ❤️
If you have a puppy that is vaccinated and under 20 weeks and would like to join us then I have space on the course starting this Sunday. Vaccination schedules can vary so if you aren't sure whether your pup can attend do get in touch to chat about it.

Our longest stayer is now Easton who has been in our care just shy of a year!

You may have seen his friend Barley went off to his new home last week, Easton was found abandoned with Barley. Easton has since made new friends and is hoping for a home in the not so distant future!

Can you help find Easton a home, ideally a quiet secure set up with ideally a few gelding companions! He is very much a one to one pony who thrives off a routine 🥰

***Puppy Classes***

Puppy School is an established network of puppy tutors who run classes throughout England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.

We all have regions within these areas and follow the same syllabus but we all bring our own level of experience and fun to our classes.

Do you have a puppy between 12 and 20 weeks
Fully vaccinated by the start of a course
Looking to give your pup a great start
Would like to learn;
-Loose lead walking
-Recall
-Puppy greetings
-Jumping up (not jumping up that is 🙂)
-Positions
-Focus
-Wait
-Settling
And much more

We build on exercises over a 6 week course and you'll have plenty of opportunities to ask questions in a group no larger than 5.

I've been working with people and their dogs for over 15 years so have the experience to support you and your puppy on your own individual level.

I'm a Dog Training Instructor for ABTC so only use kind training methods

***Socialisation - sounds***
Had a lovely example recently of a puppy getting used to noises.
We were having a session at Florey's Field Secure Dog Walking Paddock when a distant bang happened. The little Cockapoo I was with wasn't sure to start with, her ears went back and she ran back to her dad to stand next to his legs, an area she felt safe. She recovered quickly and we carried on with our session.

The bang happened a second time, this time she stopped, put her ears back for less time and then carried on with what she was doing, already learning that the noise was nothing to be worried about.

Later in the session she was playing a recall game, the bang happened again and she didn't respond at all! She would have heard it but was too busy having fun playing recall games. This was a lovely example of a puppy getting used to something, we were there to support her if she needed it but she managed herself perfectly. Well done pup 😊

(NB - responses to sounds would be different for a dog in pain, and our responses would change accordingly)

Socialisation - visual
The other week we had a recall session and little Archie wasn't sure about some large tyres that are in the ground of the field.

He barked and moved towards them, then moved away and repeated this. He wasn't scared, he was just a bit conflicted as he hadn't seen them before, he wanted to investigate but just wasn't sure.

As Florey's Field Secure Dog Walking Paddock
is fully secure and safe, Archies Dad was able to drop the lead and allow Archie to investigate in his own time. Archie knew we were there if he needed us but we gave him the time and space to investigate at his own pace. He soon realised they were OK, and a little later we used the tyres for some search work, making them even better!! 🙂

A nice post on the importance of sleep

🐾At Puppy School, we know how important it is for your puppy to rest and how hard it can be to help them settle.
🐾Sleep is vitally important for your puppy's growth and development. Young puppy's aged 8 weeks old need around 18 hours sleep in a 24 hour period.
🐾For optimum sleep - It is best to provide a quiet, safe place for your puppy to settle, a comfy bed and ensure it is located somewhere free from distractions / disturbances.

****Teenage Dogs****

Do you have a dog over 20 weeks and under 1 year who hasn't had any / much training?

Do you feel you've missed the chance to train them because you couldn't get onto a puppy course? Don't worry 👍

I am now running Puppy School for Older Pups.

This is the same syllabus as Puppy School for the younger puppies with the same additional features, but I tailor it to support you with your dog through their teenage years and the group will be more suited to your dogs age than if it were in a young puppy class.
