Poffley Pets, Small Animal Boarding.

Poffley Pets, Small Animal Boarding. I started Poffley Pets boarding after struggling to find someone willing to look after my rabbits while I was on holiday. I now hope I can help you.

Hello. I'm sorry, but due to my other Care business being very busy, I have had to make a decision that I can not take any pets in at this time. I just can't give your pets my full attention which is required when they board. I am gutted as I love having all my visitors. I'm not completely closing down. Just taking a short break.
I'll post again once ready.

The behaviours rabbits demonstrate are a result of their care.

If a rabbit only sits in a hutch all day, it is only because it is confined to a hutch.

If rabbits have nothing to stimulate them mentally, how can they prove they are intelligent?

How do you know rabbits are happy alone if they have never had a partner to snuggle with?

In order to change negative perceptions of rabbits, we must change our negative care and treatment of them.

These common misunderstandings โ€“ fuelled by the misinformation presented by pet shops and breeders โ€“ are the reasons why thousands of rabbits suffer often unaware by their owners.

What we may call a misunderstanding is a lifetime alone in a hutch for a rabbit.

All the time people have incorrect perceptions of rabbits, they will continue to care for them incorrectly.

So how can you make a positive change?

First, make sure to tick off the five welfare needs:

๐Ÿ‡ Diet โ€“ 85% quality hay, 10% greens, 5% pellets.
๐Ÿ‡ Housing โ€“ Minimum area of 4m x 2m x 1m tall.
๐Ÿ‡ Behaviour โ€“ Provide plenty of enrichment activities, including foraging and digging.
๐Ÿ‡ Companionship โ€“ They should live with another compatible neutered companion.
๐Ÿ‡ Health โ€“ Rabbits need regular health checks and vaccinations.

By proving your rabbits with the above, you will see a change in their behaviour. They will become more playful, affectionate, and live longer, happier lives.

Misinformation, miseducation, and misunderstanding can be dangerous.

This is because misunderstanding affects our judgement, which in turn affects the outcome of our treatment of someone or something.

This is all too common with animals.

The more intelligent we believe an animal is, the better treatment the animal receives.

Likewise, the less intelligent we perceive an animal to be, the less care and attention that animal is given.

This is extremely common amongst rabbits.

Common misconceptions of rabbits are that they:

โŒ Are childrenโ€™s pets.
โŒ Are unintelligent so do not need mental stimulation.
โŒ Are small, so only need small living spaces.
โŒ Only need to eat commercial muesli.

These misperceptions are not always the fault of the owner. All the time small rabbit hutches are sold commercially and muesli is on the shelves, how are new owners to know any different?

This is why challenging perceptions and educating owners old and new is vital to change perceptions to in turn improve the welfare and care of domestic rabbits.

The treatment and quality of care given to rabbits is based on peopleโ€™s perception of them. This perception is determined by the behaviours rabbits show. A rabbitโ€™s behaviour is a result of the treatment and quality of care it is given. And so the cycle continues.

You might think rabbits are stupid and boring because they donโ€™t do anything, and so you continue to not give them anything to do.

But by challenging this perception and giving rabbits mental stimulation, you will find that they are interactive, intelligent, curious little problem solvers. But how would you know this if you never break the cycle?

The cycle must be broken!

Because ignorance is not bliss. Especially not for rabbits.

When poffley pets ask's to see your vaccination card this is what I'm looking out for.
All NEW vaccinations should be in date 2 week prior to boarding. ( both vaccines can't be given together so think 6 weeks ahead)
Repeat vaccinations need to be up to date or in date while boarding.
