🦊🌟 Red Panda Fun Facts! 🌟🦊

Mali, the female red panda who lives in Woburn Safari Park's Foot Safari, is here to tell you the top five facts about her species! ✨

1️⃣ Mali is not a true panda 🐼 Despite the name, red pandas aren’t actually bears! The red panda is unique, but shares common traits with racoons.

2️⃣ They are tree lovers 🌳 They spend most of their time in trees, using their fluffy tails to balance. Mali has an enclosure full of trees and climbing frames to enjoy!

3️⃣ Winter doesn't bother them at all ❄️ Red pandas can struggle in temperatures higher than 25 degrees, but snow and frost is perfectly fine! Their thick fur keeps them toasty.

4️⃣ They are actually carnivores! 🦴 Despite this classification, they mostly eat bamboo. If they need to they will also eat berries, blossoms and fruit!

5️⃣ They are endangered 💔 Sadly, red pandas are on the ICUN's endangered red list, so it's vital we all do our part to protect these precious creatures! 🌍💚

Winter is the perfect time to visit Mali! Let us know in the comments if you'll be coming to say hello to her ⬇️

It's International Zebra Day! 🦓♥️

Let's celebrate by getting to know the herd of Grevy’s zebra better! The three females are called Nguvu, Olivia and Imogen and Keeper Dayna has offered some advice on how to tell them apart:

✨ Nguvu is the smallest of the three, with a large silvery mane and a white stripe down the middle of her nose. She's very inquisitive and friendly.

✨ Olivia is the largest of the three, with a tell-tale white marking in the middle of a black stripe on her neck. She loves food and is very good at getting snacks from keepers! 😋

✨ Imogen can be easily spotted thanks to the V-shaped indents she has in the tips of both her ears. She can often be seen rolling around on the grassland!

✅Grevy's zebra are an endangered species with numbers in the wild vastly reduced due to poaching. You can learn more about Woburn Safari Park's conservation work here: https://woburnsafaripark.com/3CfsHFo

Crack out your dictionaries, because the lemurs are here to teach you a new word - arboreal 🌳🍁

📍The Land of the Lemurs is home to three vulnerable species, the ring-tailed lemur, the black and white ruffed lemur, and the red-bellied lemur and they are all arboreal. It means they live in trees!

If you visit their woodland enclosure, you can see them jumping, climbing and roosting in the branches above your head! 🍂

Interrupting your feed to bring you Granville the Southern White rhino's delightfully muddy horn. ♥️

❔Did you know that rhinos absolutely love to get mucky! Mud acts like a natural sun cream, so rolling in mud can help them protect their skin and keeps bugs away. On hot days, rhinos might even relax in mud for hours on end.

➡️ Granville, a five-year-old male, arrived from West Midlands Safari Park in August and has fully made himself at home at Woburn! You can see him grazing in the Road Safari, alongside his rhino pals Mirijam, Mkuzi and Azeeza.

It's Penguin Awareness Day! 🐧♥️

Penguins are a beloved and fascinating species, but the sad truth is that their population numbers around the world are dwindling, impacted hugely by climate change and habitat loss. That's why Penguin Awareness Day is so important! 🌎

Woburn Safari Park is home to a large colony of Humboldt penguins, a species classed as vulnerable. They love to swim around, take care of their chicks and socialise with each other by making quite distinctive and loud braying noises! 🌊
