🐾 CT scanner arrival... Take 2! We are very excited to announce that our long awaited CT scanner will be arriving today!

⚠️ Our carpark will be CLOSED today from 10:30am due to the delivery. Please park on Barley Mow Lane if you are visiting the practice. If you need any assistance with pets please contact the practice and we will be happy to assist!

✨ We are hoping to have it back open before afternoon consultations! ✨

🩺 Jet came to us with a painful swelling under his jaw that had alarmingly swelled up. After a consultation with Alfie he was booked in for a CT scan to get a clearer idea of what the underlying cause was.

🩻 The CT scan was suggestive of an abscess likely a result of foreign material having penetrated his skin and caused a massive infection, Jet was booked in for surgical exploration of the lesion.

🧼 The surgical site was prepped for the procedure by clipping the fur and sterile scrubbing the surrounding area.

👨🏾‍⚕️ Once sterile Alfie was able to surgically remove the lesion and jet had to have a drain placed to help his recovery.

🔬 The mass was sent off to the lab to be examined by a pathologist who found plant material present, suggesting a grass seed was the guilty culprit and responsible for Jets swelling.

🖤 Jet went home the same day looking very smart in his medical pet shirt and was treated to some much deserved tlc by his dad.

🐾 Jet was absolutely amazing during recovery and after a few days we were able to remove his drain. He is now back to his handsome normal happy self!

Chubbs is possibly our most laid back patient, absolutely nothing phases him and we absolutely loved having him! 

📋 Chubbs came to us for a routine dental, he was admitted in the morning and walked himself straight into his kennel and fell asleep (it was a busy morning after all) 

🩺 His vitals were checked and a pre anesthetic blood test run to ensure there was nothing untoward going on under the surface. It also decreases his anaesthetic risk. 

🪥 Alfie got to work checking each tooth, assessing the gum health, calculus and plaque scores giving each a thorough clean with a scale and polish. 

🐾 Chubbs woke up from his procedure and made his way onto Ash's lap for his recovery where he continued to snore and rest until ready to return home with a fresh smile!

Did you know that we offer Laparoscopic Spay! This procedure is done by creating 2-3 very small incisions; typically they are just half a centimetre in size, allowing for the insertion of a camera and instruments. The procedure is performed with magnified views of the organs allowing maximum precision and minimal invasion and trauma.

With a traditional spay procedure, both ovaries and the uterus are usually removed, which is considered an ovariohysterectomy. In contrast, a laparoscopic spay normally only removes the ovaries (ovariectomy), which means a surgeon can make a smaller incision or set of incisions in the patient.

✨ The benefits ✨
Research has shown that animals undergoing the laparoscopic procedure feel 65 percent less pain than with a traditional spay. Smaller incisions also allow for faster healing!

🐾 Nia is a 1 year old Boerboel who has had a tricky start to life with many veterinary hurdles. Since 4 months of age, she’s had a lot of problems with her elbow, causing a lot of pain and necessitating multiple surgeries. Unfortunately she’s become nervous and can be reactive, especially to vets trying to examine her elbows.

🦴 Nia is currently having treatment for septic arthritis and has fluid sampled from her elbows. It is extremely important to closely monitor her and reduce the risk of further deterioration.

👨🏽‍⚕️ As a practice we understand that every dog is different and requires a different approach for medical treatment! We have many resources available to us and we pride ourselves on making sure that both pet and owner feel as calm as possible whilst visiting the practice!

❤️ Not every dog is happy at the vets but that does not make them a bad dog! ❤️

Milly has recently been showing signs of lameness on walks, after a consultation and assessing her medical history Alfie decided x-rays would be required to show any problematic areas.

🐾 Milly was admitted in the morning and she settled straight into her kennel.

🩺 Her vitals were checked and a iv catheter was placed to allow for a smooth sedation.

🩻 Once asleep, Gemma and Alfie were able to position Milly with ease for her x-rays. This also allowed Alfie to feel Millys joints without causing discomfort.

🐶 Milly woke up shortly after and was treated to a cuddly blanket and breakfast (which she was extremely happy about).

🏡 We sent Milly home with pain relief that should help ease her discomfort. Her x-rays have been sent to a specialist orthopaedic surgeon who will asses all the images and update us with a full report and plan.

Yesterday we had beautiful Bracken in for a dental 🪥🦷

She had a large amount of tartar build up on her teeth which if left untreated can cause gum inflammation or dental issues. After an extensive dental examination under anesthetic with Alfie, nurse Ash got to work with a thorough scale and polish and Bracken left us with a beautiful new smile!

Dental problems effect 80% of dogs over the age of 3. If you have any concerns about your pets dental hygiene please call the practice to book a dental check up with Alfie! 👨🏽‍⚕️👩🏻‍⚕️🐾
