If you haven't tried the Liveryman Nova trimmer I highly recommend you do!
Quiet lightweight and very capable. I have so many client horses who used to hate having ears clipped including the lovely otto here who as you can see loves ear tidies now.
The lovely Jacob having his final clip of the year.
I can't explain how far this chap has come. His previous clipper worked her magic (before moving away) in getting him happy with clippers for body clipping unsedated but legs and face were still a no go zone for him, which is a very common no go for horses with hyperkeratosis and mallanders.
It can be very painful and even when you manage to clear up any sores they still have the memory of the discomfort.
And as for his head when I first started it was a challenge to tidy his chin. Now he's very confident with everything.
He's been a regular client now for coming on 2 years and for the last year this is how been. Very much overcome his fear and as you can see licks and chews his way though his nervous legs instead of panicking.
So proud Jacob π
Full winter cushings coat is no match for team Liveryman

Why do I get clip lines? π€·ββοΈ
A question professionals get asked all the time. There are a few reasons
Dirty horse
Incorrect tension
Incorrect pressure (user error)
Blunting blades
Grit in-between teeth
Wrong blade type for coat
Dermatographia
A simple way to remove visible hair line left is to clip in different directions, I say cross hatching but you'll hear it called different names.
So here's a little video where I've purposely used incorrect pressure to create lines then cross hatching to correct.
Liveryman black beauty off the battery flying through the thickest floof.
Being able to swap from mains to battery give me much more freedom, and unlike other clippers I've tried they have no less power on the battery π
Sad I haven't got over to do nobby little annual clip yet, I have a plan for him I just need to find the time π€·ββοΈπ₯°
Any guesses??
Harmony Plus the master of the A5 range powering through with a 13mm blade
The mighty Liveryman Harmony Plus with the 13mm blade making short work of this cushings coat.
Videoing 1 handed whilst clipping and looking what your doing is tricky! This lovely horse is 30 and with age comes loose skin/loss of muscle definition which means you need 2 hands to stretch the skin out for some areas which I did after this video to tidy up.
3 hands would be so beneficial π€£
This blade is brilliant wether tidying saddle patches, spur squares, legs or hogs to leave your horse looking like they have more top line or protection from sunburn in summer months.
The Harmony Plus with its low vibration and quiet running and ability to be codless is the machine for the job π
π’ sitting with my diary π’
There are a handful of Dec dates available so shout if you require clipping.
Also a reminder that no further appointments are set in stone wether in my diary or not until your previous appointment is paid for.
This as always is due on the day of your clip.
I love my job! So satisfying π
Blending for beginners!!
A quick video to show a quick way to achieve a blended look.
Things to bare in mind, this chap has a fine coat so is super easy to blend. The more coat like on your cobs, natives etc the harder blending is, and colour changes add another level of nightmare to blend π.
So this is just the basic to get you started.
The distance you blend depends on the amount of hair you're working with, thicker, more hair then you start higher to grade down over a larger distance.
You ideally want a adjustable blade trimmer the Liveryman Classic like today's video or Nova are perfect for the job.
In this video I have the classic set to 4 (longest length) and clip with the lay of the hair and 'flick' away towards where you'd like to finish the blend. Where i point out the join (mid video) I've shortened to 1 (shortest setting) to seamlessly join the clipped upper leg to the blend. You just need to use the same flicking motion and only the top section of the blend.
Please bare in mind this is a simple video to give you an idea. I've had blends that can take an hour to sort using multiple small clippers, trimmers and guard combs.
Happy blending!
Any questions as always I'm here
I cant emphasise enough how good the finish is when the horses are presented beautifully bathed πππ
Thank you Emme for always giving me the best canvass to do my work π
Milos mum like to set e little challenges!
He wears over reach boots as he likes to pull his shoes off but with all that feather they're tricky to fit. Plus having shoes on the feather gets soo long it's awkward for the farrier too.
So today's challenge shorten feather round front and clear the pastern leaving feather looking natural.
Oh an milo has never allowed clippers on his legs. I'm glad to say he totally trusts me now and didn't blink when I got the Harmony Plus out for the job.
π’Controversial topic!!
Mane pulling, if you don't want to watch please scroll by, I know it's not for everyone but I've been asked a million times how to do it and have put off showing it. But I think it's important to show how to do it as kindly as possible.
Things to note
Monty loves mane day! He gets no restraints, he is not sedated, he is sensitive at his wither and poll area so it trimmed with scissors both ends and not pulled.
You MUST listen to the horse.
Pulling is not for all horses and that's ok. There are plenty of other ways to tidy a mane ie rakes, scissors, thinning knife etc.
I will not force a horse to have a mane pull.
Combs your mane through so you can see how it's laying.
Take a small, ill repeat that Small selection of mane.
Pinch the end between fingers and back comb remainder of the mane up to the root.
Wrap the small amount you have in your fingers around your combs as close to the root as you can get. The further away from the root the more effort it will take to pull and will hurt more.
You ideally want a short quick pull.
Then comb the mane down between pull to check the length and thickness. Repeat till your happy.
You shouldn't be cutting up your fingers if you are you're taking to much at a time, your comb should be doing the work.
If your horse becomes upset Stop it's not for them.
Remember little and often is better than a mass mane make over.
I know this video will not be for everyone but I believe education is the key.
20 mins in 20 seconds, imagen how many I could get through if this were real π€£
Star needed a little bit of love this afternoon, his sweetitch has been under control for the last few years and he's been able to have a nice mane but this wet hot weather were having is causing him havoc so it was hog time. This boy never moves an inch regardless of what job I'm doing but even he found his itchies enough to step away. Hopefully he will now be feeling much happier
Clippers used Liveryman Harmony Plus
Went to visit my mate Bertie today for a hog and leg tidy. He's looking fabulous in retirement. π
The georgous Bella proving you can get past needing vet sedation and love clipping day ππ
When my physio asks if I could do my job sat down to preserve my back π€π€£ maybe I'll send them this video π
Take a trip with me to some of my morning clients at Cane End
Leg blending made simple, especially easier without a big winter coat to blend into.
Stars summer coat has come though beautifully but he has his feather off regularly throughout the year.
Where you blend can vary depending on each horses coat type and conformation, star grows fairly hairy knees so is blended including those.
All with the Liveryman Harmony Plus 10wf blade
Always happy to answer any questions.
Also if you want any other videos let me know, clipping season has finally eased off a touch so I have a little more time to video whilst working x
