Sadly it is grass seed season 🤕 recently we have been getting a lot of poor animals coming in with discomfort and we have found a lot of grass seeds causing these problems! Always make sure to check your animals after long periods in grassy areas. We recommend preventing your animal from running around in long grass and keeping the hair around ears and paws short to minimise the risk of getting a grass seed stuck in their fur. If you have any concerns, make sure to reach out! 🏥🐾

We are recruiting for a part time RVN so please share (particularly with any vet nurse friends!) 🙂
We can potentially be somewhat flexible about hours if we find the right person.

We are a small (2 vet) proudly independent first opinion family practice with a long-standing client base (some have been coming since the 60s!). Our focus is on building strong client/patient relationships and providing care tailored to the individual. Our experienced and mutually supportive team share a common-sense approach and the atmosphere here is calm and friendly

The lovely Dave! We recently had to make the difficult decision to amputate one of Dave's hind legs due to a cancerous growth in the region of his knee. Not a decision to be taken lightly in any dog but lurchers as with other sight hound breeds have incredibly muscular limbs having been bred for athletic performance! This makes surgery like this an extra big deal but Dave has been an absolute hero and he's already getting better at balancing and hopping around. It never ceases to amaze me how well and quickly animals will adapt after this kind of operation!

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Found cat.

This cat has been handed in to us at Denton Vets, we believe she has a potentially undiagnosed medical issue. She is comfortable and being looked after by us at the vets with hope that her owner will be found. She has a microchip, however, unfortunately the phone numbers are no longer in use.

If anyone is missing this cat please contact the vets on 01189781325.

Denton Vets will be observing the bank holiday on Monday in tribute of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. All emergencies will be covered as usual by Minightvet Wokingham based at Nine Mile Ride Veterinary Hospital.

Richard and I have fond memories of The Queen and Prince Phillip visiting the Royal Veterinary College in 2003 to open the new facilities. From the helicopter arriving on the playing fields to The Queen catching my eye and offering a disarming smile as I self consciously pretended to work on my computer, to Prince Phillip exclaiming, after a short conversation with Richard, 'so do they let 𝑎𝑛𝑦𝑜𝑛𝑒 into vet college these days?' it was a very memorable day for everyone. Ironically, Richard would go on to care for The Queen's Corgi's years later when he moved to Windsor!

Hers was an incredible life of duty and service to the nation/commonwealth. Rest in Peace Queen Elizabeth II.

UPDATE: Dog and owner reunited - thank you for sharing ❤️🙂

Has anyone lost a small male dog?
We have had one handed in to us this morning found near Warren House Road. His chip is not registered so we cannot contact the owners. He looks very well fed and cared for. If you have any information please give us a call on 01189 781325. We have contacted the dog warden but would like to reunite him asap if possible.
Thank you

***Extreme Heat Warning***

In light of the extreme temperatures forecast for next week, we wanted to remind all our clients of the dangers of heatstroke and how to keep your pets safe and comfortable.

Symptoms to look out for include:
• Panting, this can progress to distressed or noisy breathing as the heatstroke worsens
• Restlessness or agitation, pacing, seeking shade or water
• Drooling
• Red gums or tongue
• Increased heart rate
• Vomiting or diarrhoea
• Progressing to lethargy, confusion, collapse and seizures

If you suspect your pet may be suffering from heatstroke please call us ASAP on 0118 9781325 for advice, as it can rapidly become a life threatening emergency.

You can help to keep your pet cool and comfortable by:
• Make sure your pet always has access to a cool shaded area.
• Restrict exercise on warm days (dogs should be walked early in the morning or later in the evening, although on the hottest days it may be best to skip walks altogether)
• Pack a water bottle on walks
• Remember, hot pavements can burn paws! If it’s too hold your hand on, it’s too hot for your pet to walk on
• Never leave pets in a car or a hot room (eg conservatories)
• Ensure your pet always has drinking water available, adding ice can help keep it cool
• Ensure your pet is regularly groomed if this is advised for their breed

Stay safe and stay cool!
