Hi, My name is Ian Overton, owner of Scratch And Sniff Dog Walking & Boarding. I adore dogs!! Having worked for over 20 years in the IT industry I decided to follow my passion and setup my own company to service the needs of your furry friends. I have lived in Winnersh for ove

r 23 years and dogs have been in my life for around a decade. My relationship with dogs began when I started home boarding labradors for Guide Dogs UK, who were based in Winnersh at the time. It was a wonderful experience and transformed my outlook on life! I then purchased my own dog, a black labrador retriever who we named Nala, she is now 7 years old and my business partner!! Having a dog in your life keeps you grounded, makes you laugh, keeps you fit and is extremely good for your mental health and overall wellbeing. However, it can at times be difficult to manage owning a dog in todays fast paced world and that's where we can help! What can we offer you and your furry friend?
> Dog walking (group or solo)
> Senior dog / puppy visits

> 24 hour boarding in a loving and secure environment
> An enrichment programme for all dogs, from puppies to seniors

> We follow a tried and tested familiarisation process, ensuring that each new dog is able to join us without fear, anxiety or aggression. We do not accept any dogs who exhibit these behaviours
> We have a dedicated dog transportation vehicle with AC, approved by Wokingham Borough council
> We have purpose built sleeping accommodation in our home for your dog, watched over by a wifi enabled camera
> We have access to excellent dog walking locations in the Wokingham area
> Your dog will be cared for as a member of our family
> We only board dogs for a minimum of 2 nights, up to several weeks if space is available

What is our familiarisation process? For any new dog requiring day care or 24 boarding we work through the following process:
> I take the dog an a test drive (i.e. a 121 walk) to get a feel of how the dog walks on lead and how they interact with situations, people or dogs that present themselves. We then progress to the next stage
> The owner and dog are met on the green in our close by myself and my dog Nala
> Both dogs have the opportunity to greet, sniff and generally say hello. At this point I am looking for signs of fear or anxiety in either dog (i.e. tail between the legs, lip licking / smacking or excessive yawning). Often these signs are exhibited initially but after a few minutes these disappear once both dogs are comfortable with each other
> After a successful greeting I then walk both dogs to my home and we enter the rear garden together via the side gate and both dogs have more time to familiarise themselves in the rear garden
> Any other dogs on the property are then introduced one by one (on lead) to your dog in the same manner, ensuring that no dog (including yours) shows any signs of fear, anxiety or distress
> This process usually takes 30 minutes and is highly successful for the majority of dogs
> I document the outcome of the process and provide a record for Wokingham Borough council and the owner of the dog
