Beechwood Riding School

Beechwood Riding School Riding School Beechwood is situated on the beautiful Surrey Hills in the North Downs; an area of outstanding natural beauty.

We have our own farmland and woodland available to ride on and are close to extensive woodland bridleways, which allow our riders plenty of off-road hacking. We have an international size all-weather manège, a grass school, a large jumping paddock with a full set of show jumps, a working equitation course, cross-country jumps and an indoor school. All the horses and ponies used in the school have

been carefully chosen for their suitable temperament and are trained to complement Beechwood’s philosophy of classical equitation.

Donkey Blog!

Royal Donkey!

Cantering carrots!! What a long time since I last wrote. To be honest, I am so busy because Loki, the slow racehorse, is rather – shall we say – “needy” and calls for my excellent caring skills all the time. I have to stand next to him when the Farrier is gently tending his tiny, sensitive hoofs and he doesn’t like staying in his stable unless I am in my rather comfy house and he can see me.
The Vet came the other day and decided to give us all our annual vaccination in the field. I was definitely in favour of that – saves all that long walk up to the stables and down again. I approached her first (to give Loki an example of perfect behaviour) and after the almost painless, jab in my neck, I decided I had better accompany the Vet in case she encountered any problems with the less accommodating equines. Obviously, it worked because all the horses took comfort from my excellent example.
About our friends the hens – a sort of odd happening there. One day the hen house was empty. All 13 hens and the cockerel vanished overnight! I overheard HWTH saying that a very nice Mr Fox had taken all of them off to a lovely farm in the country to retire. Seems strange as they don’t exactly work hard, but she knows best. A week later 6 very pleasant young hens arrived and after a day or two in the hen house they ventured out to see us all. We exchanged pleasantries and they seem a friendly bunch. Last week Mr Cockerel arrived to look after the ‘girls’. He too seems quite chatty.
I am a changed donkey now; so brave. I had a nice pedicure from the Farrier the other day and I didn’t even need a human to give me confidence. I stood like a rock. Jolly nice feet now.
Did you hear that, after our King and Queen visited the island of Guernsey recently, they gave The Golden Guernsey Goat a prefix of ‘Royal’ so now my field companions, Treacle and Tilly, have, like me, royal blood floating around their veins. It’s so comforting to mix with those of a similar class. You are, of course, aware of my royal blood lines.
Ah well, time to go and polish my crown!
