AVAILABILITY UPDATE🐾

Honestly can’t thank everyone enough for the bookings so far since opening CDK9 and for keeping me so busy over summer and into the end of the year.

I am now closed for all new course bookings and will only be accepting dogs on a pay as you go/ one off/ single session basis until further notice. This is to ensure I have sufficient time in my diary to get everyone booked in regularly and to also account for the Christmas period.

If there is anyone wanting to have any one of sessions to work through specific concerns then please drop me a message. I aim to get back to everyone waiting tonight as I know there’s a few if you, thanks for being patient! 🙏🏽

IMPORTANT‼️

As many of you know, I am expecting a baby in the very early new year. With that in mind, I am trying to ensure anyone currently midway through a program is completed ahead of Christmas to free up some diary space and ensure we complete the training in an effective timeframe.

I am aware that over summer some people had a couple of weeks off training to allow for holidays etc but please can anyone with outstanding sessions send me a message so we can get you booked in. If you are happy with the progress made in the taken sessions and don’t wish to redeem the remaining sessions just let me know so I know not to get in touch.

I would love to reach out to you all individually but there’s a few of you and a lot of new people joining the program so it would be quicker for you to touch base rather than me going through my diary manually where possible.

Please note, this does not effect those who are new to program or due to start in the next couple of weeks.

As always, thanks for the continued support/trust🙏🏽

DOBBY🐶

Meet Dobby, one of our latest XL recruits!

At just 3 years old he has found himself in his approximate 5th home but, this time, he’s found an owner willing to put the work in and help him make better choices when out on his walks🐾

The main goal agreed during his first session this week was to control his reaction when passing other dogs on walks and to make sure he walks with manners (in other words ensuring his owner never ends up on her ass again after being pulled over!)

Stay tuned next week to see an update on his progress🫡

In light of the news surrounding the ban of XL Bullys before the end of the year, I have decided to offer a discount to owners of the breed wanting to book some single sessions to work through any existing behavioural issues before they have to begin the potential exemption process of owning the breed.

The training can be flexible to cover existing issues but anyone booking more than one session will also work through Muzzle training as a standard unless you don’t wish to. Should the ban go ahead it is highly likely any XL’s will be required to wear a muzzle at all times in public places, on every walk, regardless of temperament. The least stressful way of achieving this for the dog is to start slowly now.

I am NOT an expert on the law, however, another sensible suggestion based on research is that any unneutered/ unspayed XL’s get booked in ASAP with your regular vet to have the procedure done. This will limit the risk of your dog being seized if and when the ban comes into place, it will also stop the dog being sent to a vet of the authorities choice to have the procedure if they are to be seized. To be successful with the exception the dog HAS to be neutered.

Please feel free to share with any friends and family who are currently worried owners of the breed👍🏾

DIESEL 🐶

Dogs like Diesel are the reason I love this job!

Rescued a couple of years ago from Sunnyside Diesel came to CDK9 with a severe reactivity to dogs which has led to a couple of altercations over the years. Even a couple of hundred meters distance would cause hyper fixation and an inability to be distracted and, unfortunately, due to other people’s irresponsibility this has led to some aggressive outbursts.

By the end of his one off session we had a much calmer, much more relaxed dog and owner. Tomorrow I will provide a follow up session to further support him in making better choices when he sees another dog and provide his owner with further tools and confidence to help him strive 🙌🏾

Side note:
Unless your dog has 100% recall, unless you know that no matter what, your dog is going to come back when asked to PLEASE do not have them off lead in an area where there are dogs on lead. You can have the friendliest dog in the world, the most well socialised dog in the world and if they uninvitedly approach an on-lead reactive dog which just so happens to get a hold of them YOU are at fault. It shouldn’t take an owner screaming across a field for you to retrieve your dog- it should never ever reach that stage. If you see another dog it’s good practise to pop yours into a heel position and on lead and if that other dog is on lead its self then it shouldn’t even be a question in your mind.

On lead/ muzzled dogs don’t always mean aggression but it could mean:
-nervous
-reactive
-sick
-in training
-poor recall
-in season

Of course, we want our dogs to meet and socialise when out on walks but just do so responsibly, approach on lead at a distance first and ask the owner if they are okay to come closer. Read body language, a wagging tail definitely does not always mean a happy dog. 🐾🐾

Afternoon!

Hate hate hate to do this but I have had multiple no shows this week/ last week after people have arranged sessions and, as a one-man-band small business, this impacts me massively.

Going forward, unless I am notified in reasonable time before hand, or it is a genuine emergency, no-shows will be deducted from your overall remaining sessions on the program.

Not something I wanted to do but when I am travelling to locations I have to protect my income.

Hope you can all understand!

On a lighter note, I do have some availability now a number of dogs have graduated the program so if anyone was thinking about getting started, please pop me a message and I can get you sorted🐾🐾

HERB🐶

The first dog to complete the full CDK9 program!

The transformation in this dog is incredible! From having to be driven to his walks to avoid contact with moving cars, unable to be walked down the street or taken out to places where cars would drive by, to being able to do all of those things safely with minimal stress.

Herb recently graduated from the CDK9 Obedience Program where we initially focused on his reactivity as a priority and then built in all of the basic commands and recall to provide his family with the tools needed for a well mannered, well rounded dog. Seeing the progress week by week for the past 8 weeks has been a joy and to receive texts that he has been taken to new places, doing new things let’s me know I’ve done my job👌🏾

Enjoy the freedom Herb🐾🐾

Every dog on my program will be having a slightly different experience- this is because it’s based on your priorities as an owner and what’s important to you when it comes to your dog’s behaviour. Everything else comes second to me.

Drop me a DM if you are interested in getting started 💯

If anyone who entered my giveaway would like the discount I am offering you as a thank you please drop me a message. It’ll only let me message those who had previously sent me a DM for some reason and I don’t want people to miss out‼️‼️

Busiest week so far since opening CDK9 with 20+ dogs in session since Monday🙌🏾🙌🏾

Highlight of my week has to be these two (sorry to all the other pups🤪).

In 5 sessions we have managed to move from 2 dogs who would sporadically fight when together, to having them both off lead, calm and happy in each others company. 5 hours, alongside some hard work from their owners and these dogs now have the freedom to build a more appropriate bond, learning what behaviour is and isn’t acceptable to the other and correcting each other in a more appropriate way rather than lashing out.

Not the case with this family at all, however, PLEASE, if you have a dog and you are considering rehoming/ euthanising due to reactivity or aggression message me and I can provide help.

We still have work to do on them individually and as a pair but this really is just one of the most rewarding cases I have worked on so far. Thank you to their family for trusting me, looking forward to next week already 👊🏾

16/05/2023

Big big thank you for all the likes and shares over the past few weeks since launching the page; we have a fast growing pack of dogs on the program and the fact you guys have already referred me to friends and family means the world🙏🏾

Don’t forget my introductory offer is still running until the end of May where you will get 2 free sessions when joining our Foundation Obedience Program.

If your unsure if the program is the right option for you, or you have any dog training questions in general pop a comment below and I’ll help🐾🐾

WALK WITH US🐾

This is what a typical walk looks like for us at the moment with our 15 week old pup. Exposing him to as many new things as we can, in this case, joggers, bikes, and other dogs, and practising those training drills at every opportunity. The end goal is to have him be able to walk off lead knowing he won’t react to those distractions unless given permission to, ensuring his main focus is on me and not everything else going on around us. As expected, he is still in a super early phase of his training and I look forward to showing you his progress in real time over the coming months.

Dogs are creatures of context so practising those drills in as many different places as possible is what’s going to solidify all of that hard work you are doing in your sessions with me💪🏼

A specific program will be coming soon for puppies 12-20 weeks old- drop me a DM if you would like some info 🐶

MILO🐶

Here we can see Milo after his first session on the Foundation Obedience course last week.

At the start of the session Milo was creating constant tension on the lead, pulling and making walks quite a pain for himself and his owner so we made lead work our first priority.

Fast forward one hour and as you can see everyone is super relaxed, lots of slack on the lead and nobody’s shoulders are getting pulled out of their sockets!

Really looking forward to working through the rest of the program and seeing where we can get this boy to🐾

SOCIALISATION SUNDAY🐾

Despite what you might think, socialisation is about much much more than throwing your dog into a field with as many other dogs as possible.

Whether your bringing home a puppy, or rescuing a senior dog it is your duty as an owner to ensure you are working to socialise them.

Socialisation is the act of ensuring your dog feels comfortable and confident in as many different environments/ situations and around as many different people/dogs/ animals as possible. This means exposing them to as many different circumstances as possible and practising their training drills, teaching them what behaviours are and aren’t acceptable.

I actively encourage my clients to take their dogs wherever they can whether that’s dog friends pubs, shops, new walks with new people/dogs/ animals and working through their training. Dogs are creatures of context and just because they understand ‘stay’ or ‘sit’ for example in the home, doesn’t mean they will instantly achieve this outside of the house where there are new smells, sounds and distractions (like squirrels🤔).

Socialisation is the key to ensuring you and your dog are safe when outside of the home, solidifying training drills and improving your relationship greatly.

The freedom of being able to take your dog along with you is what we should all be working to achieve 🙌🏼

Check out the post via Instagram to see some of our dogs in action (facebook doesn’t let you post videos and photos at the same time🙄)

STAY 🐾

Fundamentally one of the most important commands to crack with your dog.

Having the control to put your dog in a static position and have them remain their until released is key for their safety for many reasons. To name a few:

🐶Gives the dog an opportunity to control impulse and calm down when greeting guests or visiting new places.

🐶Provides the ability to open car doors without the dog jumping from the car prematurely

🐶Enables you to open the door for the postman, friends and family etc without the worry of the dog running out of the door

🐶Provides the power to prevent your dog wondering to other dogs/people/hazards when out on walks

Stay/release is a key part of our Foundation Obedience course and something we encourage every dog owner, regardless of temperament, breed and age builds into their training both at home and outdoors.
