TODAY IS THE DAY

Having started with a target of £500.00 .. our Volunteer Sam Tonks has gone above and beyond with his training to tackle his first marathon and raise money for the "homeless" hounds in our care (of which there are over 60!) for volunteer run Home Run Hounds Greyhound Charity.

Since the original £500 target was hit and Sam has gained more supporters we are absolutely delighted to let you know he has smashed £1,000.00 and we know any final donations will greatly appreciated! ♥️

A massive thanks to everyone who has supported Sam so far... We know with all the training and support he has had... his feet will have wings.

Our thanks must go to https://www.bodenhamarboretum.co.uk
for hosting our Starlight Walk yesterday evening. It was a SELL out and already we have been asked if we will be doing it next year... the answer of course is YES.

We have raised in excess of £700.00 on the evening and we are delighted to say that EVERY PENNY is going to the greyhounds in our care.. NO ONE at Home Run Hounds Charity is paid.

Thank you to our volunteers who supported the event and brought some of our "homeless" hounds for a night out. Thank you to everyone who purchased a ticket and came along ... it was a fabulous and festive evening (and the weather was kind too).

Look out for more events in the the very near future ... and a few surprises !!

Thank you to long time supporters John and Anne who popped into our Watford Gap kennels with a boot load of tinned dog food to use as festive toppers for our kennel hounds. The dogs will certainly enjoy their dinners that little bit more due to your kindness. 😋
While they were there, John and Anne had a look around the kennels and had lots of cuddles and fuss from our homeless hounds - we hope they went away feeling a little bit merrier after having just lost one of their wolfhounds. Come back anytime, John and Anne our hounds are more than happy to oblige with some houndie therapy. ❤

6 very lucky kennel hounds, Belle, Mason, Jane, Tim, Blackbird and Desi joined the Starlight Walk at Bodenham Arboretum last night. Our volunteers were certainly in the Christmas spirit, just look at the sparkly Christmas outfits worn by all!
Our confidence growing Belle celebrated her 4th birthday in style with her kennel friends.
They all enjoyed the starlight trail finding Santa in all types of predicaments and they even found themselves in a scene straight from the nativity with donkeys braying gently in a stable.
A fabulous evening was had by all with very tired hounds returning for a much needed sleep.
Our hounds only get such amazing experiences while they are waiting for their forever homes due to the generosity of our volunteers. If you’d like to get involved, please get in touch, we guarantee a warm welcome.

Out and About
Taking our dogs out and about is so important for our hounds to be seen and eventually adopted. Thank you to Ade Boswell one of our weekend foster carers for popping into the local care home, Alma Court, to say hello with his weekend foster dog and in return they invited him to come along to their first ever Christmas Fayre.

Thank you to Ade, Steph, Amanda, and Dick for going along with kennel hounds, Conti, Dolly, and Addy. It was a small event as the home is mostly for those with dementia and it was lovely to see the families of the residents bring their loved ones down to say hello to the hounds.

We're grateful to them for the£44 we collected. Every bit helps and we hope our visit brought some joy this Christmas.

SIXTH HOMELESS HOUND OF CHRISTMAS....DESI
We often say we don't know why a dog has been with us so long...but we really don't know why with Desi...
Stunning good looks ✅
Very affectionate and oh so cuddly ✅
Gives excellent kisses ✅
Good with other dogs ✅
Big and bouncy and loves to play✅
Loves a pub lunch ✅

It's a total mystery why he's still with us. He can be a bit strong when he wants to be but not difficult to manage - he'd dearly love an active family to share his life with. Please get in touch if this may be you?

THE SIXTH HOMED HOUND OF CHRISTMAS....FALCON
Stuart is an experienced dog owner, opening his home and heart to many dogs over the years, including 2 greyhounds. 🐾

He retired this summer and after the passing of his wife, he found himself feeling lonely so decided to have a new dog. We thank Stuart for saying “yes” when we asked if we could share his story as part of our 12 hounds of Christmas campaign about the difference having a dog makes to our lives. His story touched our hearts knowing that Falcon has made such a difference in such a short time.

Unfortunately, finding another dog was not an easy process as Stuart was turned away from rehoming centres due to his retired age. He began to wonder if he would ever have a companion to share his life with.

A chance meeting with 2 of our volunteers and their greyhounds, Rosie and Dexter sent Stuart home to have a look on our website filled with hope. 🤞

He enjoyed reading about all our hounds looking for homes but was drawn to black beauty, Falcon. Stuart and his friend George came to kennels to meet him.

Falcon had been waiting in kennels for a while as our black boys often do. He knew that Stuart was the real deal and was leaning on him within minutes.
Falcon leapt into Stuart’s car and went home to start his foster to adopt period.

Within a couple of days, Falcon had settled and was enjoying his retirement and Stuart knew he’d found his new soul mate. The inseparable duo are out and about, visiting family and friends, going to the pet shop and visits to the pub!

Falcon is the reason that Stuart needed to get out and about to start socialising again and he is the perfect owner for Falcon, they are a match made in heaven.

Being retired gives Stuart time to spend with Falcon. He reports that he loves sitting with Falcon at night watching TV and Falcon is the first dog allowed on the sofa! 😉

Stuart has returned to kennels to complete Falcon’s adoption last weekend and bought him a smart new coat to keep him warm in this chilly weather.

We all know that having a dog is good for your physical health going out for walks etc but Stuart’s story shows how dogs are also good for our mental health, giving us a reason to go out and about, socialise, and ease loneliness.

Well done Stuart and Falcon, it may have taken a while for you to find each other but it was definitely worth waiting for! 💖💖💖

Volunteer Norma Braine has done sterling work over the years fundraising for greyhounds and is a huge supporter of Home Run Hounds. You may recognise her name as she regularly comments on our FB page.

Though Norma doesn't live near any of our kennels that doesn't stop her being an active volunteer so a huge THANK YOU to Norma for her dedication. She just sent us this lovely message:

"Thought you'd like to see my stall at the Christmas Market in The Barge at Seend in Wiltshire. I ended up with two tables, spreading my sighthound cards and knitted dogs onto a spare stall, shown in the second photo. I hope you do well at all the HRH festive events that are upcoming."

We wish you a very happy Christmas Norma and thanks again for your kindness an generosity.

OH MY!
We are blessed with such kindness from our supporters and they have brought us such Christmas cheer. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for your generous donations and belief in what we do. We've had some lovely visitors over the past week or so which we'll share with you over the next few days.

We were thrilled at Monkspath to receive a visit from Dora (Aero Doreen) and her lovely Mum Karen. Not only did we get lots of cuddles, but the kennel kids had Christmas presents too🎅 A massive sack of toys and squeakies, yummy sardines, custard creams (every greyhound's favourite😋) and some chocolates for the volunteers. Thank you so much Karen & Dora - it was lovely to see you both.

THE FIFTH HOMELESS HOUND OF CHRISTMAS IS....ADDY (AGED 7)

This older lady has earned her retirement, now all she needs is someone to share it with. Addy asks very little of you and gives a lot in return, she’s a wonderful girl, ideal for just about anyone.

Addy is a bit older at 7 and retired from racing at age 6, her last race was even named in her honour. She had a very long career and it’s easy to see why. She still enjoys zoomies but she also enjoys her snoozles.

Addy has been out and about to parks, coffee shops, events, lots and lots of time and is always impeccably behaved. Her most recent trip was to a Christmas Fayre at a local care home where she was fussed and cuddled.

She's been in short-term foster a couple of times and has been the perfect house guest. Loves her playtime, loves her bed, but most of all loves her humans.

It's time now for Addy to find her forever family, Please make her Christmas Wishes come true....

THE FIFTH HOMED HOUND OF CHRISTMAS IS....EMBER
Dog owners know that those who say "it's only a dog" clearly have never known the love of a faithful friend. Dogs are family.

And congratulations to Katy and Adam for the exciting news...a new tiny family member will be joining them in the Spring - how lovely. 🎊🧸🤰

We adopted our boy Ember in January 2024. We’d recently moved into our first home and I was struggling to adjust to life without a dog at home. We saw Ember on the HRH website and we immediately fell in love with him. We went to visit him at Broadmarsh and knew immediately he was the one for us. ❤

He continues to amaze us everyday with his cheeky personality and his loving nature. He really did change us for the better and our lives would not be the same without our brindle boy. We are so excited for Ember to spend his first Christmas in his forever home🎄

We are expecting our first baby in May 2025 and we are so excited to see Ember become a big brother. We love you Ember boy, you really are one of the best things to happen to us🐶🤍

Dogs aren't our whole life but they make our life whole - if you believe a greyhound will change your life for the better too, then please get in touch.

THE FOURTH HOMELESS HOUND OF CHRISTMAS IS...BELLE
Let the bells ring out for Christmas for Belle, our little spook greyhound. Belle hasn't been blessed with bags of confidence and seems to take comfort in being with other greyhounds.
All in all, we think Belle is going to make someone a wonderful companion, but that someone is going to have to be very patient and give her time and space. When she does give you something back, it is all the more special.
There is nothing mor rewarding than gaining the trust of a shy dog.., she will reward your patience by loving you with all her heart and soul.

The Fourth Homed Hound of Christmas is TOMMY

They say owning a dog is good for the soul. The joy and unconditional love they show us does truly soothe the soul... and Amanda Green certainly agrees. We hope you do too. 💖

‘Tommy was a returnee to the Broadmarsh site through no fault of his own and I felt so sad that he’d found himself back in kennels. I’m a volunteer for HRH and had already taken some other hounds out to local events, so offered to take Tommy out too. I just had to help him find his forever home.

We already had a 9 year old Greyhound at home and were happy as a one-hound family, but in reality after spending a few hours together, I began to think that Tommy might actually be ‘my boy’ and I think he might have thought that too. Four weeks later, he found his forever home with us.

The joy that Tommy brings us every day means so much. The pure joy in his eyes from belly-rub is enough to soothe my soul after a day at work. At Greyhound training class, I burst with pride when he runs towards me when doing a recall exercise. However, what I didn’t expect from adopting Greyhounds, was the extended family that we now have, the truly wonderful friends we have made along the way and the fun and laughter that’s had when we all get together with our hounds. You just can’t beat it!’
