HAPPILY HOMED HOUNDS - AZRICH

Adorable Azrich (Aero Azrich), now Baz - had all his dreams come true recently when Nikki & Steve contacted us, looking for a playmate for their beautiful lurcher lady Maisie.

They had spotted Baz on our website and after a successful association with Maisie, he was reserved and began his 2 week foster to adopt journey.

Baz had enjoyed a couple of fosters whilst with us. Home Run Hounds ensures all our hounds get at least a weekend foster, with experienced volunteers, to get them used to homelife. So, was Baz ready for his Happy Ever After ? Absolutely ! Settling in really well, learning boundaries (ie, no counter surfing🤭) and being an all round Sweetheart - Baz now has a fabulous family to call his own.

Well done Baz🐾

Our monthly Baggeridge walk was looking doubtful for a short time, as the heavens decided to open on Sunday morning, with some much needed rain.

Thankfully, this cleared, enabling 46 handsome hounds to enjoy a choice of 3 walks followed by our monthly meet up in the Lydiate room, post walk, for refreshments and chat.

An amazing £228.57 was raised for our gorgeous greys from tombola, refreshments & Demolition Raffle tickets. As HRH is run entirely by volunteers, all this incredible donation will be spent on the dogs in our care.

Thank you to everyone who supported us and we look forward to seeing you again next month.

Home Run Hounds has 5 monthly walks across our Midlands branches. Please check our website (under 'Events') for further details. You will receive the warmest of welcomes🐾

Volunteer Claire Evans took the lovely Cain home last Saturday who has recently come into kennels.

Cain was quite skittish in the house but he was fine with the TV however unexpected noises spooked him a bit. He did lie down on a couple of occasions but never really seemed to settle. We had to walk briefly along the main road to get to the canal and he really wasn’t happy with the traffic.

Cain does have wondeful manners, he stood by the door to go out when he needed a wee and was very calm around treats and only briefly tried to stick his nose in my coffee. He didn’t seem to want to play with the caterpillar.

Cain travelled really well, jumped straight onto the back seat and lay down without any issues. He walks lovely on the lead, no pulling at all and likes to stay quite close.

Cain is a very sweet boy, who may be feeling a bit unsettled with the recent kennel change but with a little time and patience will make a wonderful pet.

Chancing it with Chancer!!

One of our volunteers Claire "borrowed" the ridiculously happy Chancer for a few hours today from our Broadmarsh Kennels. Here is what she had to say...

"First off we went to Hagley Park for a shady walk, he jumped onto the backseat of my car without being asked twice and settled down quickly. He’s a brilliant passenger, no issues at all on any of the journeys today.

He was a bit pully at first but walked fine once the initial excitement wore off. We saw a couple of people without dogs who he made a beeline for and accepted, (well demanded!) lots of fuss before we could move on. He saw a couple of dogs which he was quite excited about, we didn’t get the chance to get close but I’m pretty sure it was just excitement rather than anything else.

At the cafe he turned up his nose at the doggy ice cream I bought for him (rude) but was more than happy to have the crust off my quiche!

On the way back to mine we stopped off at the pet shop where he was very nosy and happy to mooch around. In the queue we were behind a small dog and he paid no attention to her whatsoever.

At mine he was really lovely, had sniffs around the garden (and a wee - good boy) and settled fairly quickly for a snooze. He was fascinated by the TV but not bothered by it and the laminate floor and sounds from the washing machine didn’t worry him either.

In the garden he was very interested in the birds flying over head but noises from next door weren’t a problem. He jumped on the sofa a couple of times but got off when told to. He also had a brief attempt at throwing my pouffe around but again stopped when told to. I don’t think stairs will be a problem as he went half way up before I stopped him (the cats were up there and I don’t think that would end well!) and he turned himself round and came back down.

Chancer is such a charmer, he is such a happy boy with a constantly waggy tail, he loves a fuss but doesn’t appear to be particularly clingy. I think he’ll be brilliant in any kind of home".

Thank you Claire for taking the lovely Chancer out for a few hours.

šŸ˜šŸ We love to hear how are homed hounds are doing so we were pleased when John and Glynis sent this pupdate about Zoe (Rossbrook Zoe). What a lucky girl!

Zoe came to live with us in Formby, Merseyside in January this year. At the time we had recently lost our beloved black Labrador Megan 🌈and John’s cousin Margaret and her husband John, who not only have Ruby a sponsor greyhound but also volunteer at Watford Gap Kennels, Home Run Hounds, suggested that we think about adopting a greyhound to fill the empty gap in our lives.

After visiting the Centre, Zoe started a new life in the Northwest where she has settled and adapted well to the change in her routine. She is becoming quite a character and well known in the neighbourhood.

Everywhere we go she seems to be like a magnet and attracts much attention from all who meet her including small children who want to cuddle and stroke her, in fact we now say that Zoe has her own Fan Club, its known as the ā€˜Zoe Effectā€. šŸ˜‡ She is also getting on very well with other dogs.

During the this time John has been having treatment for prostate cancer which has involved many hospital trips and during these dark times Zoe has always been there to give her unfaltering love and affection,' pets as therapy' is certainly true! ā¤ļø

She is an absolute joy to have and gives us so much pleasure - even if sometimes we have to share the sofa! šŸ˜†

We are really grateful to Home Run Hounds for giving us the opportunity to adopt Zoe.

Glynis and John Searson

Thank you to Glynis and John and also Margaret and John Ireson for spreading the word that greyhounds make greyt pets and we send all love and best wishes to John in his recovery.

A big thank you to the children and staff at Walmley Infant School for holding an awareness day for Home Run Hounds where our Volunteer Helen took kennel hound Ruby to say hello.

Everyone came in their own clothes and donated dog food or tinned fish.

Kennel girl Ruby said thank you on behalf of all the kennel hounds who are waiting for their forever homes.

The children asked lots of questions about Ruby, from how fast can she run, has she won a medal and why does she have number 17 on her collar ?.. It was lovely that they took so much interest in Ruby who was an absolute superstar and clearly is very good with children.

Thank you to the generosity of Walmley Infant School, our greyhounds will have lots of tasty treats to keep them going!

Hello everyone, it’s Blake here - I thought I’d have a go at writing my own report…. (check out my video too!!)

Volunteers Kay & Pete have been helping me understand the big wide world & managing my anxiety, especially around small fury things.

Lately I went to stay with them for a few days; they took me for some nice early & evening walks when it was cooler.

I’m getting much better at seeing other dogs now as I’m not as frightened if I have a human making me feel safe. I even saw a fury thing called a cat… I was obviously curious but it didn’t startle me into barking.

One morning whilst Kay was walking me, a lady wanted to stop and chat to her. She had a large dog off its lead. I tolerated it for sometime before it got too much. It made me a bit anxious- I’m not angry, just a bit scared. I still didn’t bark (more of a whimper) but I was made to feel safe & after we walked away, I was given some treats & a hug. I then came face to face with a bull terrier as it walked round the corner…. We just stared at each other … no barking or a whimper from me ….. yay, more treats & another cuddle!!

It seems that each time I manage not to bark, I’m given a treat & lots of cuddles - result!

I’ve enjoyed a few morning & evening zoomies whilst it’s been cooler & just slobbed out in the shade when it was hot.
I had lots of attention and cool flannel baths to keep me comfortable.

I went for a lovely walk the morning before going back to kennels, where we passed a few dogs and I was ok with it. I’m still a bit anxious but I try not to bark now.

In a home, I don’t get angry when people take my toys & I really don’t mind being fussed on my bed either, in fact I quite enjoy the attention & if you stop, I might whimper for a bit more.
I really do enjoy my home stays with Pete & Kay but I’m also looking forward to having my own forever family …. Could someone find me one please.

I’d also happily live with another hound as I’ve been really good with any of the girls I’ve been paired up with.

Thank you,
Blake
