This is Cloud 🤍 - he may not look it, but he’s only 8 months old! As you can see, he found himself in a bit of trouble and got into a fight with another dog.
Cloud sustained wounds to his face, particularly on top of his nose and just under his left eye. He was admitted for minor surgery under sedation. Beforehand, the wounds were cleaned, and the area was clipped.

Our vet, Kristen, then stepped in to stitch Cloud’s wounds, with our lead nurse Elodie, assisting and closely monitoring Cloud before and after his procedure. Cloud was a very brave boy throughout it all! 🐶🐾

We’re happy to report that he’s been checked on several occasions, his wounds are healing beautifully, and he’s now back to running around with all the other dogs as he used to 🤍🐾🐶

Nine-year-old Airedale Terrier - Ted, came in for a consultation after being lethargic for a few days. He had lost interest in food, including his favorite boiled fish and rice, and was experiencing abdominal pain.

A detailed ultrasound examination revealed a ruptured splenic tumor, so Ted underwent a splenectomy and an abdominal examination to check for any signs of spread. Fortunately, none was found. A splenectomy is a surgical procedure to remove a dog's spleen, often necessary when a splenic tumor ruptures, as this can cause severe, potentially life-threatening hemorrhage.

Ted stayed with us for a couple of nights for further monitoring. During his stay, our dedicated nursing team pampered him like a VIP (Very Important Pup!🐶❤), making sure his recovery got off to a smooth start.

Ted might have been holding out for some extra treats and belly rubs, but once he was stable, we finally had to break the news that his spa vacation was over! He was then discharged to his owners to continue his recovery at home 🐶🐾

Bea is a 4-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier. She stayed at The Woodbridge Vets in September for dental treatment, which included a cleaning and scaling procedure performed by Sam 🩺🐶🐾

Regular dental care is essential for dogs, as it helps prevent periodontal disease, which can lead to tooth loss and other health issues. Professional dental cleanings remove plaque and tartar build-up, ensuring that your dog's teeth and gums remain healthy. Additionally, routine dental check-ups can help identify potential problems early, allowing for more effective treatment and maintaining overall well-being 🐶🐾

Mabel, a 6-month-old Fox Terrier, injured her right hip while jumping off the sofa and required a procedure called FHNE 🩺🐾

FHNE, or Femoral Head and Neck Excision, is a surgical procedure used to treat hip injuries in dogs (and sometimes cats). It's typically performed when the hip joint is too damaged to be repaired, often due to trauma, arthritis, or conditions like hip dysplasia. In Mabel's case, as you may have guessed, the injury was caused by trauma.

In this procedure, our vet Simon removes the head and neck of the femur (the "ball" part of the ball-and-socket joint) to eliminate the source of pain. Over time, scar tissue forms a "false joint," allowing the dog to regain mobility without the painful bone-on-bone contact.

Although Mabel's joint is no longer anatomically normal, most dogs recover well, experience pain relief, and return to an active lifestyle after rehabilitation. To support her recovery and keep her active, Mabel will need regular massages from her owner and swimming sessions.

In the meantime, Mabel is thoroughly enjoying her recovery with all the extra attention and treats she's getting! 🐶🐾❤

This is Cooper, an 11-month-old Cocker Spaniel, and as you can see, she is a stunning girl! She came to The Woodbridge Vets for a laparoscopic procedure known as keyhole surgery 🐶🐾

Keyhole spays are a minimally invasive procedure offered at The Woodbridge Vets for neutering female dogs. Unlike traditional spays, this technique involves making small incisions in the abdomen, through which a camera and surgical instruments are inserted. This allows for greater precision and a faster recovery. The procedure causes less pain, reduces the risk of complications, and generally results in smaller scars. Our practice prioritizes animal comfort and safety, ensuring a smoother experience for both pets and owners. This advanced method is ideal for dogs needing less downtime and quicker post-surgery recovery.

We are pleased to report that Cooper's procedure was performed by our vet, Sam, and it was completed without complications. She also became friends with Lauren, our veterinary nurse, who took excellent care of her during the procedure and monitored her recovery 🐶🐾❤

This is Cybil, a 1-year-old who found herself in a bit of a predicament. Cybil had a little encounter with a bee and was stung on her front leg, which resulted in some minor swelling and discomfort. Kyle, our vet, saw Cybil for an emergency visit and managed to remove the bee sting from her leg.

Alex, the veterinary nurse, has been looking after Cybil, ensuring she’s comfortable and monitoring her recovery. The team also checked her vital signs and monitored her for any allergic reactions, just to be safe—because you can never be too cautious when it comes to our furry friends! 🩺❤🐾

After the procedure, Cybil was given some anti-inflammatory medication to help with the swelling, and she’s now on the mend, back to her playful self, and probably keeping a close eye on any buzzing friends! 🐝

This is Prudence, an 8-year-old Chihuahua. Prudence came to see Kristen because her owner noticed that her nose was scabby, dry, and swollen, and the symptoms were not improving. Our vet, Kristen, recommended a nose biopsy, which involved taking a small tissue sample from her nose to better understand the underlying cause of the issue.

The biopsy was sent to histopathology, and Prudence was diagnosed with Discoid Lupus Erythematosus (DLE), an autoimmune condition that primarily affects the skin, causing inflammation and sores, particularly on the nose 🔬🧫

Prudence has been given the appropriate treatment for her condition, and we’re happy to report that Prudence has recovered very well after her procedure! 🐾🐶❤

This sweet little lady is Nellie. Nellie is a 5-year-old terrier who came to stay with us for a dental procedure. Unfortunately, her molar teeth had deteriorated and had to be removed to prevent further pain and discomfort. In addition to the extractions, Nellie also had a thorough scale and polish.

The procedure was successful and went smoothly without any complications. Nellie is now on the road to a healthier, happier smile! 🐶❤🩺

This is Belle, a 10-year-old Labrador Retriever cross who came to us with concerning symptoms, including difficulty keeping food down and severe abdominal pain. After an ultrasound and CT scan performed by Sam, Belle was diagnosed with a pyloric mass.

To treat Belle’s condition, she underwent a procedure where the pyloric mass was removed, followed by a Billroth I procedure. This involved removing part of Belle’s stomach and directly reconnecting the stomach to the small intestine, reconstructing the upper gastrointestinal tract. Additionally, Belle required a bowel anastomosis, where a damaged part of the intestine was removed, and the healthy sections were reconnected to restore normal digestive function 🐾🐶.

After all of this, we are incredibly proud of Belle and how well she recovered from her procedure. We’d also like to add that, despite everything, Belle still managed to charm the entire team—and may or may not have convinced us that belly rubs are a critical part of her recovery plan! 🐶🐾❤

We are delighted to welcome Laura to our veterinary team here at The Woodbridge Vets 🐾🐶

Laura spent three years in a first-opinion practice in Cambridgeshire before completing her veterinary nurse training in 2015 at The College of West Anglia. She has a keen interest in emergencies and critical care and is currently studying towards her VNCert ECC (Veterinary Nursing Certificate in Emergency and Critical Care).

In her spare time (when she has any!) she's usually running around her two young boys, Rhodesian Ridgeback Zabi, and rescue kitten Enid ❤🩺

Wilbur is a 2-year-old car who was recently treated at The Woodbridge Vets. Sadly Wilbur was hit by a motorcycle and sustained near-fatal injuries, including a pelvic fracture, a dislocated hip and sacroiliac (SI) luxation. Sacroiliac luxation is a serious and traumatic injury in cats that occurs when the sacroiliac joint, which connects the pelvis to the spine, becomes misaligned, causing the pelvis to effectively separate from the sacrum. This type of injury is particularly challenging and requires immediate intervention for repair ❤🩺

Both Laurie and Simon were called into action for Wilbur’s procedure, which turned out to be both complex and lengthy. His post-op recovery required a spell of out of hours inpatient care which our amazing nurses were only too happy to provide. This meant we could keep him on-site, providing continuous and consistent care at our practice - as well as update and reassure his worried owners as often as possible with photos and videos of him. Lauren and Elodie, two of our dedicated nursing team, took it in turn to stay with Wilbur overnight on three occasions as he required intensive care and regularly administered pain relief (as per the vets guidance) during his recovery from surgery 🩺🐈

We couldn’t be more proud of the dedication and all round expertise our team demonstrated in managing such a critical case and it has all meant that we could give Wilbur the very best chance for a smooth recovery. We are pleased to inform you that Wilbur has been having regular rechecks appointments with Simon, and we are all very happy with how he is now healing up and the progress he continues to make! 🐱❤

Monty came to The Woodbridge Vets for a castration procedure, performed by our vet, Sam. We are happy to report that everything went smoothly, and Monty's recovery was a breeze 🐈❤

A few days later, he bounced back in for his post-op check with one of the nurses, who was very pleased with the healing of his wound. He’s back to his usual bounciness and mischief—already trying to convince us that extra treats are part of his recovery plan! ❤

Four-month-old Apollo came to The Woodbridge Vets for his neutering procedure. Neutering, which involves the removal of the testicles in male pets, is a common and important surgery that helps prevent unwanted litters and can reduce certain health risks, such as testicular cancer and some prostate issues. It can also lead to improved behavior, including a decrease in roaming and aggression 🐱🩺

Apollo’s procedure was performed by Kristen, and we are pleased to report that it went very well and without any complications. This will help Apollo lead a healthier, happier life and make his transition into adulthood a bit smoother. He’s on track for a swift and uncomplicated recovery ❤🐈

This is Cody, whom you might remember from a while back. Cody had his liver shunt procedure in July and has been making regular visits for recheck consultations to keep an eye on his progress 🐾🐶

He’s also been coming back for routine immunotherapy treatments, which are helping him stay on top of his game. Cody seems to be handling everything like a pro, although he still looks at us with a mix of suspicion and hope whenever he sees the needle—clearly not a fan of the spa treatment! 🐾🐶❤

This is Wotcha, a mischievous Cocker Spaniel who got herself into quite the situation. She decided a bowl of dark chocolate looked too good to resist and helped herself, only to end up with an emergency trip to us.

Wotcha was treated by Simon, who thoroughly examined her and immediately admitted her to induce vomiting—because, as it turns out, chocolate isn’t part of a balanced doggy diet (no matter what Wotcha might think!) 🐾🐶🍫

Wotcha then spent a few hours with us to ensure she was recovering well, under the close watch of Alex, the veterinary nurse, who made sure there were no more chocolate cravings! 🍫

This is Skye, a 7-year-old Lurcher who was out for a walk when she ended up in a ditch and sustained an injury. Skye broke her front wrist, and her owner had to carry her for a good few miles to get help.

Skye was examined by our vet, Kyle, and required a procedure on her wrist called pancarpal arthrodesis (PCA). This procedure involves removing cartilage, placing a bone graft, and using metal implants and screws to stabilize the injured wrist as it slowly fuses. Skye's surgery was performed by orthopedic surgeon James, who has a special interest in ligament repairs 🐾🐶

The recovery process takes a minimum of 8 to 12 weeks, and no surgical repair can withstand the rigors of normal exercise during this time. Skye's owner must be very vigilant in protecting the repair throughout the healing phase.

Later on, we will perform a re-assessment after 10 weeks, during which Skye will be sedated for radiographs to assess the progress of her bony healing.
Recently, Skye came in for a recheck consultation, and her radiographs showed excellent progress. Kyle was very pleased with how well Skye’s healing is progressing overall. Skye is now off to Cornwall with her owner for a much-deserved holiday! ☀🏖

Meet Apollo, the 2-year-old Dogue de Bordeaux, who has been experiencing some discomfort in his left hind leg after exercising. After a thorough clinical assessment by our vet Laurie, it was determined that Apollo needed a Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) to repair his cranial cruciate ligament (CrCL) and improve his mobility 🐶🐾

The TPLO is an orthopaedic surgery performed on dogs to stabilize the stifle joint after a rupture of the cranial cruciate ligament. During the procedure, the tibial plateau—the portion of the tibia adjoining the stifle—is cut and rotated so that its slope changes to approximately 5 degrees from the horizontal plane. This modification prevents the femur from sliding down the slope of the tibial plateau when the dog puts weight on its knee.

The procedure was performed by Simon and Laurie and included an osteotomy, implant placement, and securing everything in position, followed by post-operative radiographs. Apollo’s recovery involved lots of rest and controlled exercise over the following six weeks to ensure a smooth and successful recovery. He was a delight to care for, charming the team with his Dogue de Bordeaux personality and slobbery kisses. Apollo also enjoyed plenty of cuddles while recovering in his kennel, with our dedicated nursing team keeping him company 🐾❤
