This is Teddy. Teddy came to The Woodbridge Vets as an emergency case after continuous vomiting throughout the night. He had been scavenging food from the bin, including a plastic bag, and made himself very unwell 😔

Teddy was admitted and hospitalised by our vet Kyle, who immediately performed a CT scan of his abdomen and started him on intravenous fluids for recovery. Teddy was diagnosed with mild pancreatitis. The best course of treatment was to 'rest' the pancreas and allow his body to heal, while IV fluids helped maintain his fluid and electrolyte balance and support the pancreatic tissues.

We are pleased to report that Teddy is now doing much better and has fully recovered from his "scavenging escapade." We suspect he might be thinking twice before raiding the rubbish again - well, for now, anyway! 🐾🐶❤

Meet Murdoch - A Heartfelt Journey to Better Health🫀🐈

Murdoch came to us with laboured breathing and lethargy. After a thorough examination, our vet Laurie and Kyle diagnosed him with Feline Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM), a condition where the heart's muscular walls thicken, affecting its ability to pump blood. This caused fluid to build up in his lungs, making it harder for him to breathe.

Murdoch is now on a tailored treatment plan, including medication to reduce the risk of blood clots, diuretics to ease fluid retention, and medications to support his heart function. With regular monitoring, we're optimistic that Murdoch will continue to live a fulfilling life despite his heart condition. His journey is a reminder of how proactive veterinary care can help pets live longer, happier lives - even with complex conditions like HCM.

A Message for Pet Owners: If your cat shows signs of laboured breathing, lethargy, or an increased respiratory rate, contact your vet as soon as possible. Early intervention can make a huge difference in managing heart conditions like HCM 🫀🐈❤

Bertie, a 4-year-old Chihuahua, visited our practice for investigation with our vet Laurie. He had been showing signs of lethargy, weak back legs, and unusual pacing, not quite himself 🐾🐶

A CT scan of his spine and head was conducted to help determine the cause. The results indicated a small brain lesion, potentially linked to encephalitis, a neurological disorder causing brain inflammation.

Bertie has been treated with corticosteroids and is currently managing well on his treatment, with regular monitoring by both his owner and us during check-ups ❤🐾🐶

As February is National Pet Dental Health Month, we thought it would be helpful to talk about the importance of pet dental care. Just like us, our pets need regular dental check-ups and good oral hygiene to keep their teeth and gums healthy 🦷

Dental disease is one of the most common health problems in pets, and it can lead to serious issues if not addressed. Plaque and tartar buildup can cause bad breath, tooth decay, and even painful infections that affect your pet's overall health.

Here are a few simple tips to help keep your pet’s teeth in tip-top shape:
- Brush their teeth regularly
- Provide dental chews and toys
- Regular vet check-up
- Watch for signs of dental issues

Taking care of your pet's teeth now can help prevent more serious issues down the road, leading to a healthier and happier life for your furry friend!

Nesquick, a small and very sweet Netherland dwarf bunny, came to The Woodbridge Vets for a castration procedure. Despite his tiny size, Nesquick was full of character and curious about everything around him 🐰

The procedure was carried out by our experienced vet Simon, who made sure that Nesquick was well looked after throughout. Everything went smoothly, and Simon was pleased with how well Nesquick was doing afterwards.

By the afternoon, Nesquick was already starting to recover, looking as bright and bouncy as ever. He was able to head home with his owner, ready to rest and recover in the comfort of his own hutch. What a brave little bunny Nesquick was – he handled everything like a pro! 🐰💛

Back in December, an environmental agency officer brought us an injured swan. Apparently, he had flown into another pair’s territory and was attacked by other swans. He was transferred to us for assistance. Our veterinary team examined him, warmed him up, administered IV fluids, and cleaned his injured beak 🦢

Thanks to the environmental officer and Gill from WeCare Wildlife Rescue Centre who took over his care, he was successfully rehabilitated and the next day released under the Orwell Bridge. What a special and very well-behaved patient he was! ❤🦢

This is Prim, a 7-year-old poodle cross, who was brought to The Woodbridge Vets as an emergency case right before Christmas following an accident in the garden. While playing, an ornament possibly fell onto her left foot. She was immediately admitted for radiographs by our vet Simon. As seen from the radiographs, her foot was fractured in several places.

Simon and our veterinary nursing team performed a metacarpal fracture splint on Prim. This is a type of bandage that stabilises the joint above and below the fracture in Prim's forelimb. Splints like this are commonly used to treat metacarpal fractures in dogs, which can vary in severity. As you can see, our veterinary team had a lot of fun with her bandage! 🎄🎁

Prim has been placed on strict rest and given anti-inflammatory medication until we take another set of x-rays to check on her healing progress 🐶❤🐾

This is Kevin, a Basset Hound who came to us as an emergency on Christmas Eve. Kevin had been experiencing an extremely hard belly for the past few weeks and just wasn’t feeling himself. Our team sprang into action and performed an ultrasound of his belly, and it was immediately clear from the imaging that Kevin had a large, irregular mass on his spleen.

Kevin was promptly admitted for a splenectomy procedure, during which the large mass and his spleen were removed. The mass was sent off to the laboratory for histology and further investigation. While Kevin didn’t get to spend Christmas as planned, he was surrounded by our dedicated team who made sure he was comfortable and cared for 🐶🐾

We’re pleased to let you know that Kevin has recovered amazingly well from his procedure, and the histology results came back a few days later with no signs of anything we were concerned about. Now, Kevin’s Christmas miracle is a full recovery and a fresh start for the New Year! ❤🐶🐾

This is Fudge, the two-year-old Shih Tzu who came to Woodbridge Vets due to ongoing diarrhoea. Her biochemistry results revealed raised liver enzymes. Fudge underwent a gastrointestinal ultrasound and a fine needle aspiration (FNA) of her liver.

She is currently being treated with a long course of antibiotics and is awaiting a recheck with our vet, Kyle. As always, she remains glamorous - even while navigating her tummy troubles! ❤🐶🐾

This is Maddison, a lovely and sweet 1-year-old Cocker Spaniel. Maddison stayed with us in December for her laparoscopic spay procedure. We always recommend a laparoscopic spay (also known as keyhole surgery), as this technique is minimally invasive, involving just two small incisions through which a camera (laparoscope) and specialised instruments are inserted. This procedure allows for a faster recovery 🐶🐾

The laparoscopic spay causes less pain, reduces the risk of complications, and generally results in smaller, almost invisible scars. Maddison recovered from her procedure amazingly well and immediately tucked into a bowl full of food. What a lovely and happy girl she is! 🐶❤🐾

This is Nala, a 5-month-old kitten who came to The Woodbridge Vets for her spaying procedure last month. She also needed her teeth to be checked 😸🐈

Her spaying procedure went smoothly, and she recovered comfortably. Spaying not only helps prevent unwanted litters but also promotes long-term health and well-being.

While under and sleepy, our veterinary team also had a good look at her teeth and noted that she is currently teething. Her adult teeth are coming through normally, as they should. We’re pleased to report that her recovery went well with plenty of rest and care. Nala is now back to her cheeky & playful self! 🐈❤

This is Chester. Chester came to see our vet Kyle, as he had been suffering from dental disease and needed a dental procedure. Chester was admitted to The Woodbridge Vets on Christmas Eve, just in time to have his pearly whites ready for Christmas 🐶🎄🐾

Chester had quite a few roots with pockets, and 9 teeth were extracted. However, before the procedure could begin, we needed to take dental radiographs to check the condition of all of his teeth.

Dental radiographs are considered part of the standard of care for dogs and cats undergoing dental intervention. They are essential for identifying and documenting the nature and severity of dental disorders and conditions. Picture three shows how teeth appear on a dental x-ray. These radiographs allow us to clearly assess the roots and surrounding structures, ensuring we provide the best care possible.

Our veterinary nurses, Lauren and Molly, were in charge of Chester's recovery, and we are pleased to say that he has been an absolutely brilliant patient to look after. Well done, Chester! 🐶🐾❤

This is Sophie, a 7-year-old Rottweiler cross and an incredibly sweet lady. Sophie came to see our vet Simon for a consultation as she had been suffering from lameness in her right hind leg. After a thorough examination, Simon recommended radiographs of Sophie’s legs. The radiographs revealed a torn CCL (Cranial Cruciate Ligament) and some signs of OA (Osteoarthritis) in her right leg 🐶🐾

Sophie required a TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) procedure, during which Simon administered an epidural anaesthetic and repaired her leg. The procedure was carried out without complications, and Sophie recovered very well from the anaesthetic. We cannot thank our nursing team enough for looking after her so well throughout the process! ❤

The second photo shows the Biocurve TPLO plate and screws in place and secured. Post-operative radiographs, like the ones shown, are routinely taken after procedures like TPLO to check and confirm appropriate position of the implant.

Sophie will need to take it easy for at least 8 weeks while she recovers, and we will reassess her healing progress with follow-up radiographs. We’re hopeful for a smooth recovery and are here to support Sophie and her owner every step of the way 🐶❤🐾

Some of you may recognise this handsome fella – Chunk. Chunk had been experiencing trouble with his right elbow, primarily due to lameness. Some time ago, a small locking screw was placed in his elbow to assist with healing following a previous procedure. However, over time the screw began to cause irritation and swelling, so it was recommended that we remove it and assess how he gets on afterwards 🐾🐶

Kyle has been working very closely with Chunk’s owner to ensure he receives the best possible care and quality of life. As many of you know, giant breeds like Chunk are prone to a number of health issues, such as hip dysplasia and arthritis. In the long term, Chunk will likely require further treatment, such as stem cell therapy, to help manage these conditions and maintain his comfort.

Chunk underwent the procedure like an absolute champion, and we are pleased to report that he recovered extremely well. He’s now feeling much more comfortable, and we’re thrilled to see him back on his feet and enjoying life once again 🐶🐾❤

This is Bruce, a 5-year-old Old English Bulldogge, who came to see our vet Laurie, due to painful elbows, especially after lying down for long periods or when exercising. At The Woodbridge Vets, we are committed to providing the highest standard of care for your pets, using the latest veterinary equipment and supported by our dedicated and experienced veterinary team 🐾🐶

Bruce underwent a bilateral elbow arthroscopy, a procedure that allows us to diagnose and treat joint conditions, with a primary focus on the elbows.
The procedure went smoothly, and Bruce handled it like a true superstar. He is now on the road to recovery, and we're delighted to see him feeling much better 😸🐾❤

We’re so proud of Bruce and the progress he made so far! If your pet is experiencing similar symptoms, don’t hesitate to reach out to our veterinary team for expert advice and care.

This is Nellie, a one-year-old Cavapoo. Nellie came to stay with us for her laparoscopic spay procedure. A laparoscopic spay, also known as keyhole surgery, is a minimally invasive technique where small incisions are made, and a tiny camera is used to perform the surgery. This method reduces recovery time, causes less pain, and leaves smaller scars compared to traditional spaying 🐶🐾

The procedure was performed by Simon and went very well. Nellie recovered brilliantly and was soon back to her usual happy self. Well done, Nellie! ❤🐾🐶

This is Poppy. Poppy came to see our vet Kyle, for her annual vaccination and general health check. As you might know, where possible, this also includes an oral examination (although not every dog is thrilled about having their teeth checked!). During the examination, Kyle recommended that Poppy have a dental scale. He also noticed that some of her teeth were worn right down to the gumline, and he wanted to check just in case the pulp of the tooth was exposed, which could be very painful 🐶🐾

Poppy underwent her dental scale procedure, which included the removal of 4 fractured teeth. Despite the procedure, Poppy was an absolute star and a model inpatient here at The Woodbridge Vets – no complaints, just wagging tails and smiles! Well done, Poppy! ❤🐾🐶
