AVIAN BIRD FLU:
Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) is an extremely infectious, systemic viral disease of birds that produces high mortality and morbidity rates.
The AIPZ(avian influenza prevention zone) in England means it is a legal requirement for all bird keepers (whether they have pet birds, commercial flocks, specialist collection or just a few birds in a backyard flock) to:
-Follow strict biosecurity measures to prevent bird flu and stop it spreading.
-Keep birds housed to protect them from bird flu.

The main causes of bird flu in poultry and other captive birds are contact with:
-Wild birds, in particular waterfowl such as geese, ducks and swans and gulls
-Faeces from infected birds
-Dirty footwear, clothing and vehicles and equipment.
