We had a lovely walk on Thursday afternoon.
We bumped into our friend Sarah who had 4 Labradors with her.
I don’t know who was more in heaven, me or Tank 🤣
A one to one with another utterly gorgeous little lab puppy. This lovely 8 month old boys mum came to us for help for a few reason.
She needed help because he was pulling on the lead, help with his recall and teaching him correct social skills with other dogs. Previously he had been getting quite over excited around other dogs, which meant he was pulling more on the lead and ignoring his mum. He was also missing important body language signals from other dogs. His mum is pregnant so he can’t be pulling her around or going crazy when seeing other dogs.
During our session we worked on vital foundation training in order to shape the behaviours that are needed. Including walking nicely at heel and being fully focused and engaged on his mum and dad.
He has also been doing our social walks to improve his recall and social skills and is doing fantastically.
They all did amazingly on their session, he really is a lovely boy and is very quick to learn. 😍
Another one to one with this lovely little girl and her family, building on important foundation behaviours.
For this session we worked more on her heel work, focus and engagement, as well as her leave and sit.
We used lots of different objects in order to teach to her to not only leave them alone, but also to teach her to ignore distractions and stay focused on her owners.Which included toys, people and food.
Once again they all did absolutely amazingly and she was an absolute little star. 😍
I had a one to one with utterly gorgeous boy because I will be doing solo training walks with him.
This lovely lad is both people and dog reactive so it is imperative that I take my time getting him used to me. Something which needs to be done on his terms, which meant giving him space, no direct eye contact and allowing him to choose to come to me. It’s important I do this so he can build up trust and confidence in me.
Whilst he got used to me we worked on all of the training that is vital with a reactive dog, including building up his focus and engagement on his handler, desensitising him and teaching him to ignore people and dogs etc.
Both he and his mum did absolutely fantastically during their session and he was quickly very happy to take treats from me.
He really is a lovely boy and I look forward to building more of a bond with him. ❤️
I’m so lucky to get to look after so many wonderful dogs, here are just some of the beasties I have the honour of look after. 😍
I had a lovely one with this utterly gorgeous girl and her lovely family.
We worked on foundation puppy training during the session, including heel work to reinforce loose leash walking at heel, sit, stay and wait. We also worked on door manners, which is very important.
It so lovely that so many of her family are invovled and dedicated to her training.
It is very important that all members of a family are involved and are consistent in keeping up the same training.
She was an absolute little star and her family did amazingly. ❤️
I had a lovely one to one with this big fluffy cuddly bear.
The first thing we did is go over the foundation behaviours that are vital to not only getting a solid recall, but also heel work.
Recall training is not separate to other training as the same behaviours are involved.
This includes building focus and engagement, building food drive and getting our dogs to work in free agency. We also have to make sure that we are consistent, our communication is clear (especially via our own body language) and that we reward at the right time.
This handsome boy is incredibly laid back so his mum had to work harder than most do, in order to build the focus and engagement needed.
They both did absolutely amazingly during their session and were an absolute pleasure to work with. ❤️
A little video of the latest Merton Dog Training Intermediate- Advanced training group.
So many wonderful dogs and their owners to work with and everyone is doing absolutely fantastically.
The Intermediate- Advanced training is held on Saturdays for 11am.
Elsie is Santa paws!
Someone is leaving a present in my shoes tonight! 😜🤣
Elsie has come a long way since I took her on, you wouldn’t think it now but she had every behavioural issue going. Including being aggressive towards people and highly dog reactive.
I never would have been able to do something like this with her when I first took her on. She has certainly come a long way since then and was such a good girl tolerating doing this for me.
Especially as it’s not something I really ever do, but we thought we would have a go this year.
She got a big reward for being such a good girl. ❤️
Just a little video from last week. We bumped into our friend Jane from Dorsett’s Diggity Dawgs with Rocket and Paddington. As you can see Rocket certainly lives up to his name and he certainly likes to be chased by the girls 🤣
