Extremely proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with farmers from across Great Britain taking a stand against Labours attack on the countryside, business owners and anyone else striving for their families.

Great to be travelling down from Worcestershire with Richard and Poppy Wood from newly established low loader division!

It was an incredible experience to see all those tractors lined up on Whitehall but also a very somber one trying to get those in power to listen to common sense.

The support from the public in London was overwhelming and took us all by surprise. People are now starting to wake up to the reality of what is happening and the dire implications across all walk of life Labours budget will have.

A massive thank you to all those who organised, turned up and let us park up 👍

We are only just getting started 💪

Today was an insightful and thought-provoking day on the future of our farm.

Alongside Emma Hamer from the NFU, Chris Bloore our local Labour MP for Redditch and the villages visited our farm to discuss what Labours proposed reforms to Agricultural Property Relief will have on our family farm as well as countless farms across Great Britain.

Party posturing, political games and radical reform need to be replaced by engaging in informative and levelheaded discussions so that a fair outcome is achieved.

Family farms need to be protected to stop Britain’s farmland being bought up by large corporations and overseas investors who now only have a 20% tax to pay. The loophole that Labour thought they were closing is still there to those large investors seeking to avoid 40% IHT.

We heard the reasons why Chris abstained from voting on Wednesday on the family farm tax as did numerous Labour MP’s which was encouraging to hear.

All farmers should take the opportunity to contact their local MP, invite them to the farm and share their stories.

What happens next is yet to be seen but hopefully the message is now starting to get across how devastating to rural communities and agri-business’ this policy will be.

Great day in London supporting British Farmers. Met our local Labour MP and explained the consequences of his parties disastrous budget.

Keir Starmer, you have seriously underestimated the industry that your policies seek to destroy.

We will not be the one who breaks.

To all our farmers heading down to London today, and all our farmers having to stay behind to milk, to feed calves, to tend to their flocks and pigs - to do what they do every single day.

To those who own their farms, and to those that rent their farms. To those who have enjoyed a lifetime working their land and building a resilient business that the next generation are excited to take on. To those that are just starting out and battling to make ends meet. To those who have invested heavily in getting their farms future proofed. To those who probably should be slowing down a bit, but can't. To those who love their way of life, and those that are questioning their way of life. To those who are struggling to know what to do next. To those who are terrified of what might come next.

To those who work so hard to feed our nation, take care of our beautiful countryside and pass on your knowledge, work ethic and lifestyle to the next generation.

Know that we stand right behind you. The whole bloody country does.

A grand day out at Tenbury 🥇

High House Azzuri and High House Oyster Gem A74 came away from the National Hereford Show with some great accolades.

High House Azzuri:

🥇 - Bull, born on or between 1stSeptember 2022 and 28th February 2023

🥇 - Intermediate Male Champion

🥈 - Reserve Male Champion

High House Oyster Gem A74

🥉- Heifer, born on or between 1stSeptember 2022 and 28th February 2023

Both animals did extremely well and it was pleasing to see them placed so high considering they were at the younger end of age scale compared to other class entrants.

Azzuri and Oyster Gem had previously picked up awards a few weeks ago where they both placed first in their respective classes in the HCBA herd competition.

Well done to all other competitors and thanks must go to judge and show organisers for putting on a great day!

See you next year!

BULLS 🔴 BULLS 🔴 BULLS

This spring saw the addition of two new stock bulls to High House Herefords after our previous stocks bulls; Rocket and Tommy, were sold on to new herds after being used as much as we could.

Finding a good bull is always a challenge but finding two as the same time was cause for some head scratching!

Luckily we think we have got two great prospects that have been working away already:

Ervie Advance from the Douglas family, Stranraer, Scotland and Haven Voltage from the Lewis family, Dilwyn, Herefordshire.

The Ervie bull was chosen for his great maternal traits and easy of calving so as to be able to go on heifers. We really like the way he has grown on since he arrived and he is developing into a real eye catching bull.

Haven Voltage really ticked the boxes for us as well. Great breed character, fantastic length and a pedigree full of top breeding. He should help maintain good cow size and bring the added benefit that his Australian breeding has on teat size and placement.

It was really important for us that we were bringing in genetics from herds that were commercially ran to help with developing our own stamp on our cow herd. The cows have to work for us, not the other way around!

As well as this we also have some great calves on the ground from a selection of AI bulls used in the 2023 mating season.

Going forward we are excited to see what the 2025 calving season will bring!

Three first place cards picked up at the HCBA herd competition on Friday night.

Best Yearling Bull- High House Azzuri

Best Bulling Heifer- High House Oyster Gem A74

Best Medium Sized Herd - High House Herefords

Over the moon to have won these category’s as they give us a big boost that the herd is going in the right direction.

Many thanks must go to the HCBA for organising and to judge Arwel Owen from Genus for taking the time to look round our cattle.

We’ve also had a good season for selling bulls this year with 5 young bulls gone to work as well as our two stock bulls, High House Tommy and Drumatee Rocket going on to work in other cattle herds.

All focus now on harvest 24!

Last weekend saw the addition of a new “Mrs Whitlow” to the family as Andrew and Emma tied the knot!

Of course there was a slight farming theme throughout the day and it was fantastic to have beef from our herd served for the wedding breakfast.

We took advice from Perrys of Eccleshall and had the beef slaughtered and dry aged by them for over 70 days.

Working closely with Perrys was our superb caterer Steve Guy AKA the hungry guy who really knocked it out of the park!

The end result was sublime and it’s safe to say - there were no left overs! Thank you to Perrys and The Hungry Guy for making it so special 👌

Congratulations to Andrew and Emma on such a wonderful day for the Whitlow and Davies families 🍾

Just need the weather to sharpen up now so we can crack on with a bit of hay making ☀️

First For Fodder

J R Whitlow Hay and Straw is a family owned fodder business located in Worcestershire, U.K.

We have been supplying top quality produce throughout the U.K. to customers in the agricultural and equestrian industries for over 30 years.

Based in Worcestershire, the majority of the hay and straw we trade is produced and stored on our home farms. This added element of control ensures that the produce we supply is of the highest quality - from our fields to your farm.

The hay and straw enterprise was founded by John R. Whitlow in 1986. His sons Richard and Andrew are now integrated into the diverse business.
