I trimmed my youngest cocker’s feet and this is what I found between her toes! This is why I do not shave fur out between pads - had the fur not been there, these seeds and bits of grass wouldn’t have been stopped.
If your dog had been in meadow or stubble, check between toes and pads for bits like this. Gone into the skin, the only way out is with the vet

Cavapoo puppy, Pippin, came tome for his first ever groom. We worked to keep him calm for all the new experiences and just did a furcut to keep the session shorter and quickly rewarding. He even got used to standing with the straps to stop him lying down!
What a transformation! He can see now too!!

Handsome Kaizer is a big dog with a huge coat!!

He needed a big undercoat rake-out session, a trim and attention where his coat had matted. He is an older dog who takes things easy so his coat had rubbed together to form the mats.

Kaizer’s grooming half filled a 30ltr bin bag!!!

Nala came to me after her previous groomer moved out of the area.
Nala needed help to downsize her coat as she loves the undergrowth and attracts the grass seeds at the moment. She also now shows off her eyes, long legs and slim figure!!

Hugo had his first Tinkers & Stinkers groom as his previous groomer stopped working. Even smooth-coated dogs shed hair and being brachycephalic (short nosed) dogs, anti bacterial cleaning of his folds is needed.
Hugo did not look pleased, though he did like the fuss and the treats!!

Oscar does love having his scratch and massage when shampooed and was keen to make sure I blow dried his legpits too 😂😂

Sweet Flora came in a long time since her last groom. I raked out a lot of dead undercoat to help her in the warming temperatures and trimmed her to prepare for the spring seed season! Much neater - and smaller!! 😍😍

Old, handsome Labrador, Magnet, has a very confused thick coat with undercoat coming out in tufts. A coat management spray and an undercoat brush got this out!! Hopefully this will keep the carpet at home a little less hairy! Finished off with an oil-based condition, his waterproofing will be retained too.

Lovely Tia is reacting to the changing temperatures as most Labradors are - shedding fur a lot!! A good brush-out and condition got a lot of the loose hair out before it falls out onto the floor. What a lot we got out!

Seth had his first Tinkers & Stinkers Spring tidy and clean up. With the changeable weather and temperatures, he had a good brush-out and trim rather than a close clip as he has had before with another groomer.

Sweet Chester came in for his first full fur-cut as his undercoat had grown very long! I took out a lot and trimmed the length back to his top coat. This helps to reduce mud sticking whilst keeping defence against any seeds or thorns, and better regulates his temperature

Hairy, shedding dogs are a godsend at this time of year!
We’ve already got our dog fur “feeder” out for songbirds to come to line nests for a warm and cosy home for eggs and chicks.
You are welcome to keep your dogs’ fur after a groom, otherwise pile up the contents of your dog’s brush and put it around the garden!! You’ll soon find it gone!

Lovable Henry visited Tinkers & Stinkers for his first furcut as his coat had got a bit long. Having very soft fur, getting tangled with mud was becoming an issue. Shorter fur should help him stay tangle-free for a while!!

🌻 🐶 While daffodils can be beautiful and bring a burst of colour to your garden, they can be toxic to dogs if ingested. The most dangerous parts of daffodils are the bulbs, which contain lycorine and other alkaloids that can cause gastrointestinal irritation.

The symptoms of daffodil poisoning in dogs include:
⚠️ Nausea, retching and excess salivation.
⚠️ Vomiting.
⚠️ Drooling or slobbering.
⚠️ Diarrhoea.
⚠️ Rapid breathing.
⚠️ Faster than normal heart rate.
⚠️ Seizures.

As the daffodils start to make a welcomed appearance, if your pet has ingested any part of a daffodil, please get in contact with us immediately.

Beautiful Tess and Lilly came in for a trim to “de-floof” and tidy feet, long tails and ears. By doing this, we can stop long fur from trailing in mud, food etc whilst keeping their insulating warm coats.

The dangers of using a ball chucker or similar….

The dangers of using a ball chucker or similar….

As your dog retrieves the first...second...third...maybe fifth or sixth ball, his muscles start to tire and soon they reach overload, where they no longer can fully control and support your dog's movements. Now, when your dog does those amazing athletic maneuvers to snag the ball, soft tissues like the cranial cruciate ligament, iliopsoas muscle and tendon, and the muscles and ligaments that support the vertebrae are overstretching. Minor tears are occurring. Now the ball is thrown 10, 12 times or more and ultimately your dog lies down, exhausted.

That period between when your dog's muscles are in overload, and when your dog lies down exhausted, is the injury zone (Figure 1). But remember, with all that adrenaline, your dog doesn't feel the injuries happening, so you have no idea that the tissues are being used beyond their capacity.

When this game is repeated day after day, month after month, the small tissue tears become large ones, and suddenly it becomes evident that your dog is in pain and has an injury. Of course, it hasn't been sudden at all-what seemed sudden is just the final result of repeated stress and strain until the tissues gave way.

My own working cocker, Thea, getting tidied up for the game season this year. Wispy coat removed and shorter feathering, tail and ears will hopefully mean fewer burrs and teasels getting stuck!!
Shorter ears mean no more trailing in food, water and anything she might sniff!!

Rescue Golden, Katie, came in for her first groom (possibly ever). A gentle soul, Katie is very nervous of the human world and new experiences. She handled her groom like a pro but was so tired by it she got back on the table afterwards and dozed off!! 🤩🤩

Springers Bear and Barley came in for a bit of a de-floof and tidy to help with the hot weather and to reduce the number of seeds getting stuck in their coats. Their long ear fur was also trailing in everything so a trim also helps keep them clean.
