popped into the Elgar cafe for a coffee in town very pleasant afternoon. Ari is already settling well on a mat she realised it's much more comfy. she has done well since coming home yesterday, hopefully the anti biotic will clear the current infection

So our gorgeous Arizona crashed again yesterday, she was already booked in to go to Bristol Veterinary Specialists but she arrived a poorly puppy. sadly the diagnosis is not good. she has kidney dysplasia, which means that neither of her kidneys have formed properly and therefore they are not working properly and never will. her life expectancy is up to 2 years. she may not grow properly and she will struggle to keep weight on. she will also be very prone to kidney infections, which is what happened yesterday. she has been kept at Bristol today and will be coming home tomorrow morning. apart from when she gets infections she is very well in herself and behaving like a normal puppy and so we have decided to give her the best life that we can whilst we still can. kidney failure is inevitable and when that happens we will have to make a decision on her behalf. thank you to everyone for their support. thank you to Masefield vets, who have been amazing and also to Bristol Veterinary Specialists, who have also been fantastic. she will look a little worse for wear for a few weeks whilst her hair grows back, we have been warned that the shaving was brutal!! she is an amazing fighter and whilst she continues that fight, so will we.

Ari will hopefully grow up to be an Animal Assisted Therapy dog like her adopted big sisters
What is AAI? In our case the dogs have to do more than just be stroked and petted, they actually have to interact with the children. Leia has been working in a PRU for a couple of months now and she is so good with the children. She seems to just know what to do, when to be calm, when to be active.
We can also help people who want to train their dogs to be support dogs and also therapy dogs. We know what the expected standard is, so we can help you to achieve the required level of training, either by assisting you to do the training, or doing training sessions with your dogs for you. if you would like our help training your dog to become a therapy dog please contact us on 07817887319, or the email address below.

Some of you already know that Ari is unwell and it is a long term condition. We hope she does survive to become a therapy dog but we will treat her no differently and give her the best life for however long we have her for.

So proud of my girl she has now also passed her Animal Assisted Interventions therapy dog assessment as well, so both of them will soon be helping me to assist individuals who need it.

I also know the rumour mill has started so here it is straight from the horses mouth.
I am continuing with all training, so all classes; puppy, dog, good citizen, follow on training and one to one. I have however, stopped doing behavioural consultations and reactive dogs (in an aggressive way), as I am finding them too difficult physically. I have also stopped house visits, as I am never sure what the environment will be like and after a few situations with lots of stairs and a steep hill, none of which were expected, I have decided it is not sensible to do them.
I will be concentrating a bit more on the AAI side of things but I will continue to do the large majority of what I have done for the last 26 years. It is hard for me to stop certain aspects of my work but I realise now that physically I cant do them and therefore it is not fair on clients or their dogs.

I already have a contract for AAI and I am enjoying doing it immensely, as is Leia, so I am hopeful I can get another contract somewhere and then we will be well set up for the future.
if you do hear people saying that we are shutting down please pout them right but it is correct that I have stopped some elements of the business as noted above
