Lovely Willow will be spending some time with me over the next few weeks fine tuning her loose lead walking and recall.
She’s a super girl with tons of enthusiasm, she just doesn’t always know what to do with it! 🤪😅
Can’t wait to see her progress ✨

Lovely Honey enjoyed some one on one time today over the hills.
Even with three dogs I always try and make time to spend some one of one time with each of them, it’s important for our relationship and bond and addressing their individual needs and personalities 💛

If you have a nervous or reactive dog, or one that just isn’t that sociable, you might have heard that you should put them in as many social situations as possible to “get them used to it”.

🚫 This can actually harm your dog’s confidence in you as their handler. 🚫

Forcing your dog into uncomfortable situations (like meeting strangers, other dogs etc) repeatedly can lead to reactivity. When their early discomfort signals are ignored, they lose trust in you as their handler and often escalate their reactions.

⭐️ To build your dog’s confidence, advocate for their space ⭐️

Good socialising means keeping your dog at a comfortable distance in new situations and ensuring they aren’t made uncomfortable by unwanted attention. This helps them simply be in the environment without feeling overwhelmed or forced into interactions.

It’s all about careful exposure and creating a neutral environment for your dog to grow in confidence. Remember, it’s not about making friends with everyone, but about helping your dog feel secure and confident in a variety of situations and environments 😌

Bobby and Marley had their handover with their owners today, what stars they were. 2 happy dogs + 2 happy owners = a very happy me!! 🤩

But just because they have had their handover, it doesn’t mean it’s goodbye!

As well as attending my neutrality sessions to keep up the good work and catch up on progress, Marley and Bobby’s owners get my full support and guidance now and always.

It’s all part of the journey 🙌🏻💖

Are you dealing with behavioural issues with your dog, like reactivity, aggression, or fear? It’s natural to feel anxious or nervous in these situations, but remember: our dogs feel our energy.

While it’s tough to just stop feeling anxious, what we can do is ‘fake it till we make it’. The way we use our bodies and voices often gives away how we’re feeling, influencing our dogs’ behaviour. So even if you’re nervous or panicking, don’t show your dog that!

Common mistakes I see daily are: tightening your grip on the lead, reaching down to soothe or coddle your dog, using a cooing tone of voice, or even shouting at the dog. These often exacerbate the issue.

The key is to master your energy, or at least control how you behave. How you interact with your dog when they’re reacting or nervous significantly impacts the behaviour.

Master your energy, and you’ll help your dog do the same 🐾

I couldn’t be more proud of this dog and what he has overcome these last few months.
Trauma can take time for us to recover from, but it can also take time for your dog to recover too.
I’m just grateful to be out doing what we love and feeling like ourselves again 🫶

Three Tips for Managing a Multi-Dog Household 🐶🐾

1. First Impressions Count: Get your introductions right! Avoid starting off-lead and within the home. Begin with a calm, structured walk where both dogs are on leads, walking calmly either side. This controlled environment helps them adjust gradually and safely to each other’s presence and you can build from there.

2. Manage Resources Wisely: Prevent competition and potential conflicts by not leaving valuable resources like toys, chews, and food bowls scattered around. Ensure each dog has their own separate resting area and there is more than one water bowl available.

3. Supervise Interactions: Do not leave dogs free-roaming and unsupervised. Always ensure you are present to manage their interactions while their relationship is establishing.

🌟 Remember, a calm and structured approach is the key to a happy stress free multi-dog home!

The definition of little and large today! Minnie coming in around 50kg and Lily a mere 3.5kg 🥰

Minnie is learning some social skills around my dogs on her walk and trains, prioritising neutrality and calm as she finds other dogs pretty exciting!! I’m so pleased with how she’s progressing ⭐️

Two fab dogs started their Intensive Training today 🐾

Murphy the Boxer gets pretty over excited, not to mention very strong in new situations and unfamiliar environments. I’ll be spending some time teaching him the skills to help deal with these encounters in a better way alongside some gentle environmental exposure and socialising.

Jerry the Border Terrier is with me for dog reactivity, stemming from drive leakage. Typical Border, he’s full of drive and character! I’ll be spending some time channeling all of that enthusiasm into the right place and counter conditioning what the presence of other dogs means to him.

I’m looking forward to watching these two boys progress 🤩🐾

Resource Guarding 🐶

Handsome Frank recently spent some time with me on a Behaviour Mod Package addressing some pretty serious resource guarding.

Did you know one of the most common behaviour concerns in Cocker Spaniels is resource guarding?

Resource guarding can get a lot worse and very quickly if it’s addressed in the wrong way, which it often is!

If you notice signs of resource guarding please don’t try to fix the problem from a video online or by what you think is best, it’s vital that a professional dog trainer assesses you and your dog in your home to avoid making the problem much worse! 👌🏻

You get out what you put in ✨

It really is that simple. A couple of hours with a trainer won’t give you long lasting results.

You must dedicate yourself, trust the process and often be willing to adapt your routine and change your mindset.

There are no shortcuts in dog training and behaviour modification. The key to your dog’s progress lies with you 🫶

Just a quick note to say I don’t have any more availability for Intensive Training until June, thanks so much to everyone who has booked in, for your patience and thanks so much for your support and keeping me busy 💪🏻

Do not worry though, if you have been considering intensive training but don’t want to wait that long, a behaviour modification package can be a great alternative. Head to Prestigecanines.com for more information or drop me a message 💖

Finn & Scout started their intensive training today 🐾

Both working on lead walking skills, in Finn’s case (lab) we’re also addressing some barrier frustration based reactivity towards other dogs and in Scout’s case (hound), his arch nemesis are cats, squirrels and basically anything furry!

Their walks are currently quite limited and their owner can only walk them individually as they are so strong.

Two lovely boys, let’s get them and their owner on the right track again 💪🏻💛

Last year wasn’t our year, and we’re still dealing with the consequences now.

But this dog is my soulmate, my best friend, and my everything.

And whilst it’s been a bitter pill for me to swallow, that I currently have to walk him in a muzzle in certain areas because other people can’t control their dogs, ultimately it’s a decision that I’ve made for his safety, taking every precaution I can to advocate for him whilst we work through these issues.

Everything changes, your training journey is never linear, and no dog, despite what you might see on Instagram, is perfect.

But something that never changes for me is my love for this dog and how grateful I am for everything that he’s taught me.

A muzzle doesn’t represent a bad dog, it represents a responsible owner 🤍

Catch up session with Basil the Great Pyrenees (Bunny was there too 😋)

We’ve been focusing on Crate training to help with excessive barking and destructive behaviours as well as Place training to help with settling.

Using the two together can help create a calmer mindset in your dog and therefore a calmer household 😌

Lovely Honey is settling in so well, a happy girl with a sweet and fun character - and as an added bonus, showing herself to be a nice stooge dog too 💛
We’re still working on some obedience, fine tuning her recall, lead walking etc but she proving naturally very well balanced and neutral with other dogs, happy to socialise and equally happy the give space.
She’s fitting in wonderfully so far and is a much loved member of the family already 💖

Behaviours such as jumping up, excessive barking, not settling etc can often be solved by a few simple management strategies and some consistency 👌🏻

New to 2024 ✨ Neutrality Walks ✨

These walks will be a fantastic opportunity to provide your dog with some positive socialising experiences (no unruly out of control dogs disturbing your progress!), to work on your dog’s neutrality around dogs that are a positive influence and to spend some time with like-minded owners and their dogs.

I’ll of course be on hand for reassurance and guidance with a few exercises for those wanting to take part - it’s a no pressure environment do as much or as little as you’re ready to do.

Walks will be held in a private and secure location in Worcester and are only available to clients who have or are currently working with me.

Keep an eye on your inbox for more information and the first upcoming date 💌🐾

The obligatory bye bye 2023 post 👋🏻

I would like to wish all my clients, old and new, a very happy new year, thank you for all of your support through this somewhat turbulent year. It’s been great to work with you all - and your dogs of course!

A special thank you to my amazing mum for her complete and unwavering support and encouragement, always, but especially this year 🫶

Here’s to 2024 and hoping we will reap the rewards from the challenges faced in 2023. Wishing you all a very prosperous and happy new year 🥂🤍

Introducing the newest member of my family, Honey! 🐾

This beautiful, nearly 5-year-old Husky is settling into her new home with me after a previous rehoming didn’t quite work out. But as they say, sometimes things fall apart so better things can fall together!

Honey is the epitome of sweetness and gentleness, seamlessly becoming a part of my pack. With just a bit of guidance and management from my side, she’s adapting wonderfully.

My initial focus is on helping her feel comfortable and secure in her new environment. I’m setting clear boundaries and focusing on building a strong bond from the get-go.

In the coming weeks, I’ll be working with her on motivation, recall, basic commands, and mastering the art of walking on a loose lead.

Let’s shower Honey with some love as she begins this new chapter! 🫶💛
