To stem the flow of bleeding from a wound, you may need to apply direct pressure to the wound. Veterinary Gamgee is ideal for this first aid situation and should blood seep through the initial layer, always apply a new layer on top, never remove the bottom layer.
If you are unsure how good your poulticing skills are, use a dry poultice to practice, so you are fully prepared if your horse gets an abscess, plus your horse gets used to the process too!

With the recent warmer temperatures, the ground will now be hard in places increasing the risk of a bruised sole.
To help ease the discomfort of a bruised sole, Animalintex Hoof Treatment should be applied as a hot, wet poultice, every eight hours for up to three days.

As we enter the height of summer, the warmer temperatures present a whole new set of issues for hoof health.
Unlike the constant wet conditions, we experienced in spring, the challenge during the summer months is the sudden weather changes, with a typical UK summer consisting of a mixture of warmer temperatures and spells of rain.
During periods of wet weather, which can also include morning dew on the grass, the hoof will expand and soften, weakening the integrity of the hoof making it more susceptible to damage, where as hot, dry conditions cause the hooves to dry out and contract.
This constant fluctuation between wet and dry conditions can lead to loose nails, hoof cracks and abscesses.
Traditional Animalintex is sold in a 41cm x 21cm dressing, which can be cut to the size and shape needed to treat the injury.
