Today is National Day of Charity, so we thought
we would take the opportunity to highlight the
incredible work our charity of the year, Hearing
Dogs for Deaf People, do all year round.

Two paw-fect passengers.
Cocker spaniel River (left) and Pip the poodle (right) have been out
for a trip on the bus, getting comfortable with all the strange sights,
sounds, and smells of public transport.
It's an important stage of their hearing dog training so that Pip and
River can feel relaxed in case their future deaf partners travel by bus
or train.
Unlike us, pets have no understanding that hot weather can be
harmful. We control their environment, their access to water
and their exercise, and they can’t speak up if they start feeling
unwell. Heat stroke can rapidly progress and, even with
veterinary treatment, is often fatal.

Heat stress starts as a reversible condition, but if not managed it
will develop to heat stroke, which is extremely dangerous.
If your pet shows any of these signs, they should be moved to a
cool area and offered plenty of water to drink.

Are you looking to travel abroad with your pet this summer? If
you are, you will be required to obtain an Animal Health
Certificate (AHC) for them.
An AHC needs to be issued by an Official Veterinarian (OV).
Check with your veterinary practice to see if they have a
qualified OV because not every practice will have one.

BRITISH VETERINARY ASSOCIATION GOOD WORKPLACE:
The Goring practice is undertaking the BVA Good workplace accreditation this month. This is a voluntary process, that focuses on how, as a team, we create a safe, secure and welcoming environment for everyone to work in. We are very proud of the team we have and fingers crossed this process will demonstrate that. We will update you once we get the final report in!
To travel with your pet to an EU country or Northern Ireland,
there are some requirements your pet will need before you
travel. We would recommend that you start the process at least
four months before your journey.

We are very sad to say that the wonderful Chris is leaving us to go travelling around Australia.
Chris joined us as a newly graduated Vet two years ago and has made such an impact on the team, clients and patients. Chris will be leaving at the end of August.
