Creature Carer Dog training, walking, and pet sitting, where your pets can be looked after in their own home Creature Carer is all about me coming to you.
(5)

Most animals are happier in their own home, and many do not suit animal care establishments such as kennels and catteries. So for peace of mind, when it comes to caring for your beloved pets, having a well experienced animal carer can put you at ease. If getting around is difficult, I offer a pet taxi service, so that I am there to help transport you and your pets wherever needed. I also offer a d

og walking service as I like to stay active, living only 5 minutes from the beach myself, and I much prefer it if I’m accompanied by a canine companion to let off some steam, as well as finding new places to walk and explore. I have worked in a variety of animal based jobs, from zoos, farms, kennels and catteries, as well as owning many animals my whole life and studying them at college. This means that my knowledge and experience of animals is vast, and has only increased my love for them even more. You can also find comfort that I am fully police checked and insured. I give all my own pets the best love and affection as possible, and do my upmost to keep them happy and healthy, and this will stay the same for the pets I look after too. Being at home, their routine stays the same, they stay fit and active, any medicine or extra help gets taken care of, they get lots of attention and love, plus they get to play lots and lots!

Aaaaand we're back in action!!!

Finally the car is fixed and I'm so excited to see all the pooches again after over a week of no dogs! The withdrawal is real πŸ˜‚

Thank goodness for a fantastic boyfriend ferrying me to and fro from the garage, and to start my dog sit too ❀️

You better believe I got STRAIGHT in my car and went for a dog walk! πŸ™ˆ

This sweet girl loves the water, but was more mesmerised by all the baby swans and moorhens on the river! It made for a fantastic photo though, and was so nice to be able to rewind and relieve some stress πŸ₯°

Star of the week goes to this beautiful girl! ⭐

This lovely girl was very worried that her owner was away, and really wasn't sure about walks without him!

Her impeccable training with her owner had to be completely stripped back when she was with me, to remind her of what she already knows, and that it's okay to be herself with someone new!

When dogs are anxious, and put in new situations, it's not that they're being bad, or stubborn, it's that they are so overcome with worry, that they actually can't listen! The words and commands they know, fall on deaf ears, because they aren't in a calm enough head space to even think. Their brain is flooded with the only thought of "this is new, and I'm unsure" plus she has no reason to trust me, as she doesn't know me!!!

So, we have to strip everything back to basics, similar to puppy training! We start with praising them for following closely, making eye contact, and interacting with us, even in the slightest.
Then, once they know that it's okay to 'just be a dog', they start to relax, the anxiety levels come down, and then you can start to implement the commands and buzz words they're familiar with. This may not be instant! But with each reaction to the command, you praise praise praise! Until they fully react to it!

After only a few days, she was relaxing much more, enabling her to worry less and be able to listen and think about what I'm asking of her, and at the end of the week, she has great recall, understands her commands again, and true to herself, picked a ball as a reward over treats πŸ˜‚

She has in INCREDIBLE bond with her owner, so when that's not there, building up a new bond with someone else is simply going to take time. Her intelligence certainly shone through though! It's not an easy feat to learn and trust when anxious!

Suffice to say she will be ecstatic to have her owner back, and they will be equally happy to see her again πŸ₯°

When there's a path, you MUST not stray from it!

A great example of classical conditioning in dogs today. Dogs learn quickly by repetition and association, and instinct for us humans, is to follow a trail/path. So the dogs, by default, follow us on every walk, and although they do their own thing and are allowed to 'be dogs' they follow that pathway the same as we do.
If there's a path in the middle of a field, I guarantee the dogs will follow it without me walking there first, because they're so used to it!

However today, in a place I regularly walk, where's there's always a walkway, the fields were being ploughed, so there was only one track left, the rest had been turned over, and it caused quite the confusion! Every single one of them wanted to follow behind me, making sure they were going the right way, rather than walking blindly over the fields, just because there was no obvious track to follow themselves!

So for anyone going through issues of boredom with having to repeat something over and bloody over, it DOES work! Eventually that training can (and hopefully will) become a 'behaviour' where the dog just does that thing you want, without thinking, because it always happens, everytime, without fail, so they 'just do it anyway'. Exactly what happened here with following tracks!

Anyway, enough training gabble! I just thought that such a simple thing we overlook everyday, was a very sweet insight into how our dog's brains work πŸ₯°

A beautiful day for it too, and it's nice to know they do actually listen to me when I say "this way" πŸ˜‚

Happy summer vibes for the bank holidayyyyy πŸ˜Žβ˜€οΈβ˜ΊοΈ

This beautiful German Wirehaired Pointer is a gorgeous girl, but so stubborn for me! So today I really tried to get that recall (which I know she has down to a tee for her owners!) to shine through, and she really came through! Hoorah!

A lot of people think this particular breed is crazy, but she has amazing owners who are testament to top quality love, care and training, being the makings of a well rounded pooch.

A wonderfully sunny, 90% off lead walk, with her guaranteed 'pretty pose' to put the icing on the cake. Good going beautiful girly πŸ₯°

A perfect walk for muddy season, just a shame I didn't find it sooner!!!

Concrete paths are usually hard to find, are in busy areas near roads, or are just borrrrrrring!
Every so often however, you find a decent spot that has greenery, shade, mud free pathways AND is pretty rural! Hoorah!

A posing place was just an added bonus, plus plenty of space for boys like this one to have a really good blast around 🀩

Doggo in the daffodils 🌼🌷🌼

Sure, it's a rainy and dank start to a bank holiday, but this boy doesn't give a damn πŸ˜‚

He's a water baby through and through, rolls around in the wet, long grass, and will find puddles you didn't even know existed, on walks you've done a thousand times in all weathers!

He's also relatively self cleaning, as any mud is washed off from splashing and rolling around in the rain. Result!!!

A gorgeous Labrador, with so much spirit and happiness on every walk πŸ₯°

A seriously ominous photobombing πŸ˜‚

I thought I'd got the perfect picture of the glossy, shiny coat of one Vizsla (and I did!) But then noticed the other Vizsla was sitting in the background, just watching, but in a very good 'sit' I must say!

A wonderfully sunny, spring like day, not at all like the rainy weather that is creeping in, boooo πŸ‘Ž but once this lot clears, there'll be many more days like this one to come πŸ₯°

Thankful for a sea breeze on this warm Wednesday!

As a long haired German Shepherd, this beautiful girl struggles in the warmer weather, but the wind from the sea complimented this summery day perfectly, and gave us some much needed natural air conditioning!

A cure for bad days will always be a snapshot of dogs acting mad 🀣

This was actually a result of "the good treats", which this poochy can never resist, and acts like she's been starved whenever they're around! Usually reserved for training because dogs like to work best when the reward is high, they also work for taking great outtakes of excitable pooches 😍

Always good to have some happy pooches and a little photoshoot to boot ❀️

The end of Autumn/Winter is here!

We made the most of the crunchy/dead leaves this weekend, and the aesthetic of tan coloured dogs against a matching backdrop will never fail to please my eyes. Suffice to say, we are welcoming the warmer weather of Spring with open arms!

I find makeshift teepee structures everywhere, but only so many dogs are happy to pose eagerly for treats whilst standing in them, so you better believe I take that opportunity as much as possible πŸ˜…

So as sad as it is to lose my favourite aesthetic seasons, the fact I don't have to layer up as much, don't find myself rummaging though my bags for hand cream to relieve the cracks that appear from exposed fingers on frosty mornings, and no more dog poo bags to wrap around socks when 'waterproof' boots inevitably fail, happiness begins to show in the final straws of the extreme weather that comes from the end of the year.

Spring hasn't quite sprung, but it's on its way, so I'm close to the time where I have to ferociously strip off mid walk, because I needed my thick jacket in the morning, but by midday I'm about to get heatstroke!

Happy dogs all round, and as always, I try to go somewhere new, or a little bit further away, for some weekend or dog sitting fun, and Saturday was the perfect day for just that πŸ₯°

Vitamin D makes even dogs happier!

I love bad weather. The wind, the rain, and the cold, but when the rain is ALL day EVERY day, for weeks on end, it gets pretty depressing! You're cold and wet, you can't dry off, you pray your jacket and boots will dry out for the next day, just to get soaked again, and the dogs definitely don't have their usual eagerness to get out and about like they usually do!

So when the sun comes out, and it's still cool with a nice breeze, it gives a lovely uplifting feel to the day and the walks ahead. The dogs are much happier, most likely because I am too, and the welcome break from the constant dreariness makes you almost forget it ever rained, and you foolishly believe it will never happen again because "summer is here, hoorah!"

Just a tip though. We're in 'fool's spring' where the sun is shining, and you think you're safe, but in less than an hour it can, and often WILL, just start hacking it down again out of nowhere! So always bring a coat or at least a spare, dry t-shirt! Never trust March and April in absorbent clothes πŸ˜…

Regardless, this photo shows a wonderful river walk where it was dry enough to not get caked in mud, and sunny enough to truly soak in that much needed serotonin and vitamin D that we all crave and desperately need this time of year, as well as four dogs radiating happiness, making me feel even better πŸ₯°

"they love me, not the heated blanket, they love ME and NOT the heated blanket" πŸ₯Ή

These two are foster newbies and were incredibly anxious when I met them properly for the first time yesterday! Totally understandable, but their anxiety vs their curiosity couldn't compete! Curiosity won!

They are another example of bravery in dogs!

As they are staying with 3 other pooches with no issues, my interactions with them, the smell of food AND my voice (a plus to me never shutting up, although my boyfriend may say otherwise πŸ˜‰) all provided enough curiosity and consistency, to bring them out of their 'hidey holes' and see what's going on! That takes some real bravery! An new person creates unpredictably, and an equally unpredictable situation. So to be able to see "what's going on out here then?!" Takes some real guts, ESPECIALLY as rescues where we don't know their histories.
This bravery pushed them to figure out what IS predictable, and in just one evening, they had realised I was indeed predictable, and gave nothing negative!
So, in only about 3 hours, they had both come out and taken a treat from my hand, and after 5, I was able to touch them stress free (for me AND them! It's important to remember that I would never touch a dog unless I truly felt they were comfortable and not pushing them for that interaction).

The cockapoo/doodle thingy! Slept on the bed allllll night with me, and in the morning, the Shih Tzu just HAD to see what the fuss was all about, and joined us for snuggles 😍

I'm sure they do love me, at least LIKE me as I'm new to them, but the warmth from a cosy electric blanket definitely helps πŸ˜…πŸ₯°

I have always loved Siamese cats, and I finally had the privilege of looking after one!

There's just something about the oriental breeds that really draws me in, however having owned a half Bengal, and having a partner who has a half Russian Blue, this boy was the complete opposite of "loud and crazy" that I associate with orientals! πŸ˜‚ But there's still something about the big ears, the Roman nose, the blue eyes, and the SUPER long tail, that immediately makes me fall in love with the Siamese every time 😍

An absolutely beautiful boy, who was SO laid back and fantastic with his two 'sisters' of the canine variety!

Incredibly soft fur, the loudest purr, and the sweetest of souls. It was a pleasure to look after him ❀️

07/10/2022

There's been a murder! πŸ„πŸ˜‚

This little monster likes to play tug-o-war after chasing the toy on a flirt pole, and once he's latched on, he won't stop πŸ˜‚ unfortunately Mister Moo Cow went down like one of King Henry VIII's wives, but enough remained to still endure the duration of the walk πŸ‘Œ

Testament to the fact, that a 'tough' toy, doesn't always mean hard wearing, or that a small breed will be less destructive than a large breed!

If you want a soft toy that's hard wearing, well, you've got to compromise! A teddy or plush will NOT withstand pulling or teeth for long, so if it's made out of a tougher material, but feels 'squishy' when the dog bites it, they'll usually get used to it, and destroy it it in less time!
Look for the stitching too! If it feels loose, it won't hold up! So look for stitching where the fabric is doubled over, or the stitching itself is made from a stronger material.

As for "little dogs do less damage", this is a complete myth! Most small breeds are bred to chase, catch and kill, anything that is small and runs! So they have a very high prey drive, and they want to play the same way! Some are persistent in ripping apart and gutting toys, so just because a large breed is technically stronger with a heartier bite force, doesn't mean a small breed can't also do similar given time, and they're speedy! πŸ˜‚

Another Westie!!!

My O.G. customers will remember the little West Highland White Terrier I had called Hamish, who is sadly no longer with me. Well, there's a new Westie on the block!

She isn't mine! But she's a welcome new customer!

I thought it would be heart wrenching to have a little white fuzzy by my side again, but this one is a female, and has many similar characteristics to my Hamish, but she's COMPLETELY different! The personality of each dog can never compare. It's a happy feeling to have those Westie antics back again, but not at all a reminder of the dog I lost. In fact, it's made me realise that I could definitely have the same breed again!

To anyone who has had the loss of a dog, and who thinks they could never have that breed again, just give yourself time. You'll remember why you loved that first dog, but it will remind you that each dog is so different in their own way, and what you had with your dog was special, unique, and can never be replaced, but you can make new memories that are just as special with another pooch, with a whole new personality to learn about πŸ₯°

So, welcome new Westie girl to the Creature Carer Club! I can't wait to see that Westitude again!!!

Lunch is served!

The GIANT, wanting eyes, really made me giggle πŸ˜‚ this boy absolutely loves his food, but when it's mixed with turkey as a treat, who wouldn't be excited?!!! Even I'm feeling peckish πŸ˜‰

If you ever have a picky dog, or any dog to be honest! Adding treats like this every so often as a surprise, can really help them learn to have an appetite! Sometimes, the same old dog food, no matter how good or expensive it is, can be boring! So jazzing up when they don't expect it, can make mealtimes fun, and have them excited to eat food, whether it plain or not! BUT!!! Don't get caught up in giving it too often, because they're clever buggers and can expect that delicious treat ALL the time, and do the opposite of what you're teaching! Keep it random, unplanned, and healthy (but tasty!) And it can really help.

For this big boy though, he's a foodie! if it's edible, he'll eat it! Nice and easy πŸ™Œ

He's certainly a lucky boy, with a lovely family who treat him very well 😍

Seaside Transformation!

This beautiful girl has been on quite a few walks with me now to build her confidence, and a change of scenery was in order! We went to the beach and she was a COMPLETELY different dog!!! Her wild side came out, she was engaged, playing and splashing about in the water! It is 100% THE place to be for her! πŸ˜‚

After having this wonderful walk, the next time I picked her up she was so much calmer, and we went back to the sea with another pooch in tow, and she was still just as happy!

So, it's safe to say, the beach will be where I aim to go with her as much as possible, because the more a dog naturally displays happy and engaging behaviours, the more they bond with you, the more they enjoy being with you, so the more success you'll have taking them other places!

A win-win walk, and one where I was brimming with joy to see the REAL version of this gorgeous girl πŸ₯°

An all girl's walk calls for a slightly pink tint! πŸ’—β™€οΈπŸŒΈ

Today was what I call a 'boring' day. Not because I find my job boring, I love it! But a quieter day with dogs, so not much point driving farther away, meaning sometimes I'm stuck with the same old places, or places with just open space and not a lot else going on. So, we went to a field with a skatepark and as soon as I saw the amazing sky, I just KNEW it was photoshoot time!!!
Of course it's not just "sit here whilst I I photograph you and back in the car we go" because that's boring for them and me too! It's the anticipation for them to sit and wait, then run up and down the skate slopes to me for treats, with me screaming excitedly to really get the 'oomph' in them!

Different gradients of ground, such as the steep slopes of the skate park, and having them wait up high, whilst I'm way down low, is new and exciting, and more challenging than usual too!

We had an absolute blast πŸ˜‚ I love how excited they were, and they loved the excitement I was giving them back!!!

I stick by my business tagline "a walk is never 'just' a walk" because it's true! If I think I'm going to be bored, or not be able to go somewhere a little more fun, I bloody well make it as interesting as I can!!! For both me AND the dogs!

So here are 'the girls' I had this morning, after take 1000 of trying to get this photo without me sliding down the hill, and without them running to me before I could get the shot, and I absolutely love it 😍

Only 6 months old! This boy is going to be a biggun!!!

He's already pretty much the size of his sister, and he's still got that puppy skin where everything jiggle jiggles πŸ˜‚ so a lot more filling out to do yet!

He also shows the difference between 'working' types and 'show' types. Different from things like 'working' cocker spaniels, as that's down to the genetics and what you want from the temperament etc, but with 'working' and 'show' types, you can see the visual differences.

This pup is more of the traditional Labrador, which is now the 'show' type. Very big and box-y head, larger in stature and frame, and just generally big! Whereas the 'working' type is now slimmer, with smaller heads and longer snouts, and overall thinner in frame and stature. This is to literally make them slimlined, enabling them to get through bushes and thickets, as well as running faster with less clumsiness, so they can get through any terrain easily, in order to find and flush game (as well as to retrieve, as the name Labrador Retriever denotes!)

The 'show' type that this boy shows, is just so handsome! That's the only word I can describe him as! The working type, to me, have much prettier, feminine features, and the show type has the opposite!

Either way, they're both gorgeous, and their wonderful owner takes them to gundog training where they play out scenarios that the working dog would do, and they love it! It's very much their instinct, no matter how they look, and despite my admiration for this pupper, I will love any dog, whatever breed, shape and size! πŸ₯°

Popcorn Skies πŸΏβ˜οΈπŸ•

After yesterday's awful day of downpours, I was glad to see some sunshine, which also brought some crazy looking clouds! So I headed up to a high point where I knew I could check them out, and with a pooch perfectly positioned on the bridge, took a photo to look back on πŸ₯°

The dogs were certainly much more willing to come out for walks today, and with the sunshine breaking through but still being cool, it was just one of those days where you can really spend the time chilling out and looking around you!

P.s. if you know where this photo was taken, shout it out in the comments section!

Two angels at Church πŸ‘ΌπŸ˜‡

Churches are beautiful, peaceful places, as it should be! And this means it's great for a training walk! Not many dogs, people, or distractions, so of course posing is a breeze πŸ˜‚

They're also a landmark if you get lost, so can you remember where you're going, have been, or need to get back too, and most are surrounded by footpaths and fields, that can lead you to all sorts of wonderful walks!

A nice quiet place to take it easy and give easy to follow instructions to the dogs, as there's nothing for them to really focus on but you! A stress free walk is a lovely thing, but if you have a reactive it nervous dog, or a dog who needs training, places like this can really come in handy.

But today had no real aim but for both dogs to just walk together and enjoy it, and that's exactly what happened πŸ₯°

Dog in or out the photo? Always in!!!

Noatyer where I go, if I see a creepy church, bridge, cottage, or landmark, I look back at the photos with no dogs in them, and immediately think "man, this would just be so much better with a dog in it"!

We did a 3 hour walk starting at St John The Divine (and it really was divine!) Church in Patching, down through Angmering woods and back up through the fields, and this is where my post leads to some advice!

I would highly recommend starting a long walk, where you're unsure of a route, at or near to a landmark!!! I use a public walkway app, so I know I'm allowed to be walking where I am (especially useful when walking on farmland), but if you lose data, and you don't where you are, how do you get back?! Screenshot where you're aiming to go and include the point where you started, so you can guess where you're going, or pinpoint where you started!

I had data, and didn't get lost, but easily found my way back because I pinned my starting point, but I have been caught out before πŸ™ˆ and of course, if you choose a landmark as beautiful as this one, you get some great shots of you and your pooch looking cool πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘Œ

Mr Pleaser! He's so happy to do whatever you ask, and he craves the reward a big fuss for doing good, over treats! He just so WANTS to do what you've asked, and is incredibly intelligent to boot, so working out what you're asking if him comes super easily to him!

Any time I need a quick 'barkour' shot of him sitting on a piece of rotting wood, or old tree stump, he is so eager to please and accept the happiness and contentment that he did something good!

An amazing dog, in an equally amazing setting for a Saturday afternoon/evening walk in the woodland ❀️

Back from their holibobs, and it's so good to see them!!!

I have to programme my brain to NOT turn up to dogs houses when they're away, and then do the same so I don't forget to pick them up again when they're back! πŸ˜‚

But these two girlies a.k.a. "my tiny babies"! have been regulars for years, so I always miss them like mad when they're gone! They're both so different from each other, and both bring very different energies to a walk, one calm and collected, liking cuddles and a fuss, the other constantly searching for smells, little things to chase, and going mad at the possibility of treats!

The other dogs who usually walk with them miss them too! There's a gap in the group, and you can tell the others pick up on that difference, and when they're back, they're genuinely happier, because that's their routine!

Either way, I've missed them, I'm glad they've had a lovely time away (the owners too!) And I'm even happier to be able to see them again each day πŸ₯°
