New visitor Purdy the Cocker came for a short Summer cut to keep her cool.
Her Mum said she wasn't a fan of the blow dryer so we take it softly and slowly but she bossed it. However if it meant she went home slightly damp then so be it. It is always a case of sanity versus vanity 😊

We've had a couple of new visitors over the last week......
Willow the Chihuahua who came for a nice shower, blow-dry and nail clip.
Milo the 6 month old Havanese who came for a little tidy up and shower but mostly to get him used to going to the Groomers and leaving his Mum!

It's set to get extremely warm over the next couple of weeks so please be mindful of this with your doggies.

Heat stroke can cause irreversible damage or even death.

Dogs that are more prone to heat stroke are old dogs, overweight dogs, flat faced breeds and puppies. However any dog of any age or breed or fitness can get heat stroke.

Signs of heat stroke are:
⚠️ Faster, heavier breathing
⚠️ Excessive thirst and drooling
⚠️ Increased heart rate and pulse rate
⚠️ Dark coloured gums/ tounge (red/purple)
⚠️ Glassy eyes
⚠️ Staggering or weakness
⚠️ Seizures
⚠️ Unconsciousness

If you think your dog has heat stroke DO NOT throw cold water on them as this can cause the body to go into shock.

On warm days you can help your dogs by:

✅ Restricting exercise
✅ Make sure they have access to cool, shaded areas
✅ Give them access to fresh water
✅ Walking them first thing in the morning or last thing at night when it's cooler

Earlier in the year I visited the beaches of the DDay Landings in Normandy. It was a very sobering trip and is unimaginable what all those young men, most of them just kids went through. Especially when kids that age these days whine if they can't get WiFi. We must never forget what they gave for us.

It’s my baby girl’s 13th birthday today! Yes we have a teenager in the house.

I've stopped sharing posts of pets passing because I think it's too upsetting but I had to share this one of my special boy, one of my original gang 😔
My best boy Charlie Bucket has gone over the bridge. He was a huge part of my life for so many years. I started walking him when he was 18 months old in 2010 and had him every week bar holidays for 2 or 3 times a week right up until 2022 when he could no longer manage it.
He was the sweetest and best behaved boy and is going to be so missed by his Mum and Dad and everyone who knew him.
You'd think I'd be hardened to this by now but it absolutely floors me every time.
Sleep tight beautiful Charlie...go and find Buddy-Love 💕 xx 💔

I'd like to say it's tick season again but having watched Countryfile on Sunday evening and removing one from Sherman at the weekend....they seem to be around all year! 🙄
So things to have in your arsenal are a tick twister and this Wildwash spray. Tick twisters are a couple of pounds from any pet shop or good ole Amazon. They normally come in a pair of different sizes. You need to make sure you remove the whole tick.....its legs should be moving. If you're not confident to do it, get your vet nurse or groomer to show you.
Rather than filling my dogs with chemical poisons as preventative measures, I use the Wildwash spray. I've been using it for years, just a quick spray before each walk. I didn't do it last week as thought it was too cold for ticks but I will now!!
I spray myself with it too as frankly I do not want Lyme disease. I've also known it used on horses to prevent flies in the Summer.
I can order these bottles at a cost of £14.95 so if you'd like one let me know.

Ticks used to only be a concern in wooded areas or where there were sheep or cattle but, Sherman picked one up from long grass in our local park 😲 so all of us will be getting lightly sprayed before every walk from now on.
