After a long and happy life at Clwyd Special Riding Centre, we share the news that our amazing Zack has peacefully passed away at the grand age of 32.

At the very young age of four, Zack was rehomed in 1997 to Clwyd Special Riding Centre from the World Horse Welfare Charity – making him the longest placement in one single home for that charity.

He gave 28 happy years of service to RDA life, during which he made many magic moments for our participants and RDA Holidays.

He will be missed by all who met him. ❤️

📢 VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Help Us Secure Vital Funding! 📝🐴

Clwyd Special Riding Centre is looking for a volunteer Grants & Fundraising Champion to help us apply for funding from trusts and foundations.

As a charity, we rely on grants to care for our wonderful horses and provide life-changing therapeutic equine experiences. With demand for our services growing, we need extra help to secure the funding that keeps us going!

We’re looking for someone who:
✅ Has experience in grant applications
✅ Enjoys research and writing compelling funding bids
✅ Is proactive, organised, and detail-focused
✅ Shares our passion for supporting people through equine-assisted activities.

As of now, we are going to be open. We will constantly assess the situation, and should we need to close, we will contact participants and volunteers directly.

How is your New Year’s Resolution going?

January typically kick-starts new goals and ambitions for the next 12 months.

You may have chosen an activity to help boost your health and well-being or committed to supporting your local community through an act of kindness or volunteering.

Why not give yourself extra encouragement to achieve your goals by marrying up your personal challenge with volunteering at CSRC or with raising funds for our charity?

The resolution doesn’t have to be too challenging, you can take it one step at a time, like Julia…

Julia Cariss, one of our longstanding volunteers, set an annual resolution to complete a 1,000-mile walking challenge with her dogs, Reg, then Max. For every mile completed, she gives 10p to our charity. Julia continually smashes her target. She feels great, and so far, has raised over £500 for CSRC! Thank you, Julia!

Make 2025 the year to make a difference!

If you have been considering getting more involved in your local community and charity work, why not make 2025 the year you make it happen?

We are always looking for volunteers, and while we love a regular commitment, there are plenty of one-off events and opportunities where we would love an extra pair of hands.

You don’t have to be hands on with the horses … perhaps you could help with gardening, maintenance jobs, baking a cake or maybe you have skills you can put to great use as a potential trustee?

Want to do your own thing..?

People who organise their own independent fundraising event for us are equally important.

From coffee mornings, sponsored events and birthday donations, to asking your company to make us their chosen charity, there are so many ways you can support us.

We would love you to start by sharing this post and let’s see how many people we can reach and encourage to make 2025 the year they make a difference.

We are currently looking for more horses to join our team. We are looking for geldings only, ideally ride and drive. Weight carriers.

They must be well established in their ridden (and driven) work. Their aptitude, temperament, and suitability to be ridden and groomed by those with additional needs is paramount.

Clwyd Special Riding Centre is an approved Riding for the Disabled (RDA) and British Horse Society (BHS) Centre. We offer a friendly loving home where they will mainly live out in a herd.

We are not looking for world beaters, but we are looking for kind, willing soles.

It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the sad loss of our gentle giant, Erik.

Following a medical complication, and after spending the weekend under the expert care of the vets at the University of Liverpool Veterinary Hospital, he was sadly put to sleep on Tuesday 14th January.

We would like to give our huge thanks to all those involved with his care at Leahurst, and also to our own vets, Heath Equine Veterinary Practice, for their exceptional care and support during such a difficult time.

Our gorgeous boy meant so much to so many and his loss will leave a huge void at CSRC. We will miss you, big lad. 😢💔

Just a reminder that Clwyd RDA Group riding sessions for Wed 8th and Thu 9th Jan, are cancelled due to the icy conditions.

Participants and volunteers attending CLTH, Independent Riding sessions, and Mechanical Horse/Hippotherapy, will be contacted directly IF their sessions are being cancelled/postponed - so keep an eye on your emails and phone messages.

In the meantime. Ceri, Kovu and Mali, are doing a fantastic job working hard in the freezing conditions to make sure our boys are warm and comfortable. Thank you Equine Team, and Volunteer, Jim, for clearing the snow! 🥶👏

Huge congratulations to Leonie Saffy, former CSRC rider, on being recognised as a ‘rising star’ by Horse & Hound.

Leoni began riding lessons at Clwyd Special Riding Centre in 2012, on advisement from her spinal surgeon with the aim to strengthen her core in preparation for a major spinal surgery. Since then, she has defied all odds to become a successful para-dressage rider.

You can’t help but be inspired by her story…
