The well-established Equine Training & Development Centre provides a range of different high-quality housing for ridden horses of all types. The facilities include, 2 large indoor arenas (24m x 60m & 24m x 55m), 1 small indoor arena (24m x 24m), floodlit outdoor ménage (20m x 60m), 4 therapy barns, including a state-of-the-art hydrotherapy water treadmill, solariums, under cover oval horse walker

and newly fenced grazing. The Equine Training & Development Centre has several permanent resident horses plus a variety of loaned horses who return to the site during the academic year. The yard houses approximately 80 horses at any one time, which includes a range of horses from native ponies’ types through to show jumpers, eventers, youngstock and allrounders, which are accessed by our students for educational purposes. In recent years ARU Writtle has injected upwards of £2 million into the development of the centre to provide students with access to top class equestrian facilities whilst undertaking their studies. These top-class facilities provide an excellent backdrop for student learning, and are used as an integral part of the teaching at ARU Writtle to provide valuable practical and ridden training for students on all HE and FE Equine courses, grassland management teaching, equine therapy and rehabilitation, along with producing realistic economic data used by students studying business management modules. The Equine Training & Development Centre is well resourced and is regularly used for the purpose of research into a wide range of areas both by undergraduate and postgraduate students, and by outside commercial organisations such as feed companies, bedding manufacturers and stable equipment suppliers. Outside of students learning activities, the facilities at the Equine Training & Development Centre are available for limited hire options for shows, demos, clinics and pony club camps, etc.

Congratulations Tabitha. Such great results!

Tabitha, one of our Equine Academy members who is studying Veterinary Physiotherapy recently competed her horse, Elsie at the Summer Regional Championships.

On the first day they produced a lovely test in the Medium Silver for 2nd with 68.78% narrowly missing out on qualifying. Then onto day 2 for the Advanced Medium Silver, a pleasing and active test for a good score of 68.4% and taking the win, qualifying for the British Dressage National Championships!

Tabitha told us that she is thrilled with Elsie’s improvement at this level and how confident she’s feeling!👏

Did you know that you don't have to be studing an Equine programme to join our Equine Academy? The academy is also open to Chelmsford as well as Writtle campus students.

We are heartbroken to let you all know that we unexpectedly had to say our final goodbye to our beautiful DD on Tuesday. It has taken staff a few days to be able to process the sudden loss of such a special horse so apologies for the slight delay in this post. DD was such a special character - full of cheeky personality and funny quirks. He has helped teach 1000s of students over the years and made each and every person that met him laugh with his silly ways. I am sure there are many of you who will miss DD as much as we will - we would love to hear any stories or see any pictures you have of this very special boy. Sleep tight DD - thank you for everything ❤️🌈

22/05/2024

We would like to say a big thank-you to everyone who came along to support our unaffiliated dressage championship last Saturday. There were so many lovely combinations judged throughout the day and the effort everyone made in turning out their horses to a wonderful standard did not go unnoticed.

As always, a big thank you to our judges, writers, students and of course our organising team for ensuring the day ran so smoothly, not forgetting our very generous sponsors of each of the classes Birkett Long LLP, Dengie Horse Feeds, Saracen Horse Feeds, The Horse Clinic (House & Jackson), SEIB Insurance Brokers, Equine Products UK and Essex Horse Transport.

Please also remember to take a look at the stunning photographs captured by SMRPhotography which are now available to view & purchase: https://www.smrphotography.co.uk/

We will shortly be releasing our next set of unaffiliated competition dates, so please watch this space.
