Beautiful Malinois crosses Raisin and Halle joined us for some hydrotherapy earlier this week. Ball is life… isn’t that right, Raisin? 🤩
Happy Monday from the team at SAC and the lovely Bella who visited us for her hydrotherapy session recently. The weather might be gloomy outside but the pool is warm and inviting. We are taking on new clients so please do get in touch if we can help your small furry with any rehab or fitness needs 😊
Beautiful Enya all snuggled up after her Hydrotherapy session today.
Just back from hydro with Natalie......I am so tired 😴
Meet Elsa the VERY cute patterdale 😍 Elsa is now back winning at agility following rehab for TPLO surgery.. Well done Elsa 👏🏻👏🏻🥇🥳
I don't think the beautiful Newfoundland Betty was bothered about her Oasis tickets today 🤣 She had the best time having her Hydrotherapy with Natalie 🥰❤️
Have a great weekend everyone!
Happy Friday everyone!!! From the very beautiful Ella 😍❤️🥰
The beautiful Penny having her Hydrotherapy session... Very impressive photography skills by Penny's owner I must say! 🥰❤️
We think George might be enjoying his physio session!! 😂😂
The VERY handsome American Akita Shinto looking super proud of himself after his treadmill session.. And rightly so!!😍😍🥰❤️
We've had a few queries recently regarding insurance and professional registrations... Most insurance companies who cover Hydrotherapy, will only pay if they know the clinic is registered with a governing body such as NARCH.
For those who didn't know, The Small Animal Clinic are proud to be registered with NARCH, ensuring we provide the highest levels of professionalism and standards for canine hydrotherapy ☺️💦
A familiar face here - the lovely Alfie enjoying his physio session today. Quite an excitable chap but 15 mins into his session and he was snoozing. Alfie has marked osteoarthritic changes in his pelvic limbs and other age related niggles and grumbles. He loves his sessions comprising of Laser therapy, Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy, Massage and Stretching. Lovely to see you today, Alfie! 💕🐾
The very cute 12 year old Pippa does some static swimming due to arthritic changes and a forelimb conformational deviation.. keeping her static for her sessions helps to put less torque through her elderly joints 💕❤️🥰
A morning of lovely Labradors!!❤️ You can't beat a Lab for waggy tails and cuddles...ok..we sneaked a cute Collie in there too, but she was part of the Friday morning fun so couldn't miss her out of the pics could we!? 😂🥰😍❤️
The very beautiful Teasel having her conditioning session today, in preparation for the flyball championships coming up.. She was such a little superstar and had a well deserved little snooze when she got home 🥰🥰
A rare opportunity to grab some late availability in the hydro clinic this Saturday PM. We can accommodate 2 more bookings after lunch so pop us a message if you’d like to book in!
Also a great way to provide some exercise and conditioning for your dog without being outside in the heat ☀️(not complaining!)
The very beautiful Cara looking very happy after her swim this morning. 💜
The very gorgeous Louie demolishing his tube of squeezy cheese during his physio session ❤️❤️😍
The so very handsome Stan, having his first attempt at weight shifting on the foam block as part of his physio session 👏🏻👏🏻❤️😍
Let’s just take a moment to appreciate the levels of cuteness… Dedenne enjoying her physiotherapy session with Kirsty 😍😍😍❤️
Sweet Norman was hit by a car at the beginning of this year. He was diagnosed by the vet as having brachial plexus (the site where the forelimb nerves originate) injury/avulsion & amputation was discussed. He lost sensation in the limb, muscle atrophied overnight & his limb started to contract. Norman's owners thankfully decided to go down the therapy route first & once the pain and swelling had subsided he started hydrotherapy in February. Nerves are very slow to heal (a rate of 1mm a day). The aim of his hydro was to rebuild muscle and regain range of motion in the limb so that when the nerves had healed he had a limb that could support him. It's been a long road with tiny improvements seen along the way but Norman's owners have kept faith & he is now finally able to bear weight on it again. Not all brachial plexus injuries recover even with the best help so we are so pleased for Norman and his owners!
Lovely Daphne is a very special case. She had a disc extrusion (slipped disc) in her back leaving her paraplegic. Daphne’s spinal cord was so badly damaged that she still has no sensation past her waist and no communication between her brain & her hind limbs. The movement seen here is an involuntary action by the hindlimb reflexes which are recruiting the muscles into a walking sequence in a phenomenon called “spinal walking.” Not every dog with Daphne’s condition harnesses spinal walking but physiotherapy, hydrotherapy & Daphne’s owners hard work at home are all helping to reinforce those reflexes & strengthen this action. We are all rooting for her, she is such a special girl ❤️❤️❤️
Daphne's owners are trying to raise a little money to help with Daphne's recovery, if anyone would like to donate a few pennies I'm sure they'd be grateful 🙏🏻

Little Dedenne a beautiful Pekingese ❤️ Dedenne is an IVDD patient, 4 weeks post surgery with a degenerative spinal condition. Dedenne has only recently been able to get up and about, having about 5 minute walks daily. Dedenne was treated with some PEMFT to help with pain management and to optimise her bodies ability to repair itself.. She also had some laser/photobiomodulation treatments around the surgical site which will click the “re-start” button on cells, increasing blood flow and bringing oxygen and nutrients to the area. Her physio session ended with some stimulatory massage techniques to her pelvic limbs. Dedenne was a little anxious for her first session in new surroundings and new treatment techniques but she was very well behaved 🥰 And yes… her coat is as soft as it looks! What a stunning little dog 😍
The absolutely gorgeous Golden Retriever Flossie, walking so beautifully in the underwater treadmill... Here is the gorgeous Louie the Frenchie.. It’s 12 months since his surgery for IVDD, but we still see him for maintenance sessions ❤️ Louie is always a joy to treat, he is so happy coming into the clinic! Louie was treated with PEMFT which will aid in restoring better function, laser was then applied through his back and around his old surgical site to reduce any inflammation present as a result of a recent flare up. Louie then enjoyed some massage to finish of his session ❤️❤️😍😍 #caninehydro #caninephysio #lovedogs #dogsswimming #caninehydrotherapy #k9hydrotherapy #dogs #dogsofnorfolk #doghydrotherapy #animaltherapy #animalphysio #doggyhydrotherapy

Eric’s journey so far…! A complex case with no diagnosis and mixed clinical signs but Eric has gone from strength to strength with his regular physio sessions. Initially he was struggling to walk and couldn’t keep his balance, he could manage a handful of strides before “flopping” to the floor. He would spend a lot of time in bed, using his litter box was a problem and he was just a bit defeated. Fast forward a few months and look at him now! We still don’t really know what’s happened or what’s going on with Eric, his vet is scratching his head too, but we manage his condition in which ever form it presents itself and we now have Eric much more able and capable of walking and keeping his posture and balance. Able to get in and out of bed, wandering around his home, negotiating the litter box is much easier and he’s even confident enough to go out in the garden. Eric’s story continues but so far, he’s been a champ! Well done Eric and Eric’s Mum who is incredibly dedicated and committed to his rehabilitation and improving his quality of life. #catphysio #catphysiotherapy
Look at the lovely Barney enjoying his treadmill session! Remember the pool isn’t suitable for all conditions. Dysplasia cases for example are commonly best treated in the treadmill where we have more control of your dogs movement and can keep them straight, preventing twist or torque through the joints. The same generally applies to IVDD and spinal related cases/conditions. The treadmill is also a great tool for giving confidence back to your dog if they’ve been lame, limping or compensating after an injury or due to surgery or a clinical condition. The pool is an entirely non-weight bearing environment, but the treadmill makes walking and weight bearing more comfortable due to the buoyancy properties. This helps your dog to have more trust in their own ability to weight bear where they’ve been trying to avoid doing so due to pain. This helps prevent learned behaviour, as some dogs can be limping causing secondary problems long after the primary discomfort has subsided. For the fitness, sporting types, we can alter water height and speed making it a super conditioning tool too! It’s not all about the rehab, we are huge advocates of prehab here at The Small Animal Clinic!
Just a reminder that we can also offer fitness and fun swims here at the small animal clinic! Controlled swimming in warm water with qualified hydrotherapists trained specifically to know how best to improve the fitness of your dog or just for a fun experience! We can make it as easy or hard and as supportive (or not) as your dog needs! Turn the pool jets on for some additional resistance, weaves to encourage bending and proportionate muscle building left to right, and not forgetting lots of toys to chase! From a therapeutic perspective, prehabilitation is as important as rehabilitation - prevention better than cure. Here at the small animal clinic we are qualified canine and/or veterinary professionals and can help with prevention of sporting or breed specific predispositions to certain injury or pathology and we can do this with your dogs whilst they are having fun! For a limited time only, sporting or working dogs can join us and have £10 off their initial session! Just make sure you let us know what activity your dog takes part in when you call or email 🐾💦
