**** PLEASE READ 🦠****

So....... What’s changed since the initial 3-week “LOCKDOWN” period guidance?

AS FROM TUESDAY, 14TH APRIL 2020, UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Latest guidance from the RCVS and BVA has changed and will affect the cases we can continue to see under extended “lockdown” conditions and are summarised below.

We will continue to treat emergencies and all urgent non-routine cases as per the previously posted criteria. We will also continue to provide telephone and video consultations where appropriate. However, there are some significant differences to the initial 3 week lockdown advice.

• VACCINATIONS – we are now recommending that all FIRST VACCINATION COURSES and first annual boosters in DOGS and CATS go ahead due to the increased risk of disease outbreak over a longer period of time, and annual leptospirosis* vaccinations for dogs due to the zoonotic risk.

In effect this means we can do all DOG vaccinations except Kennel Cough (unless there is an outbreak) which are due, although we may still ask you to postpone some until closer to the time we consider them “lapsed”. (Please see my previous post regarding vaccinations.)

We will assess this on a case by case basis when you call us.

In addition, we’re recommending RABBIT vaccinations go ahead due to the seasonal disease risks.

RABIES vaccinations will also be carried out if required for certification reasons.

*Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection that can cause serious illness and in some cases kill humans if they come in contact with an infected animal or it’s urine. Fortunately, your dog can and should always be vaccinated against it. It is a core vaccination that we recommend every year. We use Nobivac Lepto 4.

• NEUTERING – Where neutering is considered essential in the next two months, neutering can be carried out, but only in situations where essential for animal health and welfare or population
control during the time period.
For example, neutering in cats should be considered if they cannot be kept indoors or if they are in mixed s*x pairings/groupings, for population control.
We are recommending rabbit neutering for population control and preventing aggression, as they should be kept in social groups.

• MICROCHIPPING – we are recommending microchipping CAN BE UNDERTAKEN if the animal is already in the practice for an essential service.

• FLEA AND WORM TREATMENTS – We are continuing to dispense these important preventative medicines.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL OUR PREVIOUSLY POSTED “LOCKDOWN” PROTOCOLS AND GUIDANCE STILL APPLIES.

REMINDER: WE WILL COLLECT YOUR PET FROM OUTSIDE, ONE PERSON PER PET IF POSSIBLE AND PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU ADHERE TO STRICT SOCIAL DISTANCING AND STAY AT LEAST 2 METRES AWAY FROM STAFF MEMBERS AT ALL TIMES.

Thank you all again for your understanding and cooperation,
