โ๏ธ WINTER PET DANGERS โ๏ธ
With the festive season approaching, we would like to make sure you and your pets have the best time possible. We have made a list of some common dangers the winter season brings so that you can make sure to keep out of paws reach!
โ ALCOHOL
Pets are much more susceptible to alcohol poisoning than we are.
โ ANTIFREEZE
Although it may taste sweet, it is also extremely dangerous to pets.
โ BATTERIES
Can cause serious blockages, burns and perforation of the gastrointestinal tract if swallowed.
โ CHOCOLATE
Pets are unable to process chocolate in the same way we do, making it toxic rather than a treat.
โ COLD & FLU TABLETS
Contain ingredients that can be very dangerous to pets if ingested.
โ DRIED FRUIT
Such as raisins, currants and sultanas can cause kidney failure in dogs.
โ MACADAMIA NUTS
Can cause muscle weakness, tremors and fever when ingested.
โ MOULDY FOOD
Mycotoxins in mouldy food can cause neurological symptoms and liver damage.
โ SEASONAL PLANTS
Many indoor and outdoor plants can be poisonous to pets, such as Mistletoe, Holly and Poinsettia.
โ XYLITOL
Can cause dangerously low blood sugar and liver failure in some cases.
If you think your pet has eaten something they shouldn't have, please give us a call as soon as possible!
COMMON SIGNS OF POISONING INCLUDE:
โ ๏ธ Vomiting and/or diarrhoea
โ ๏ธ Hyperactivity or restlessness
โ ๏ธ Tremors
โ ๏ธ Seizures
It is helpful if you keep any packaging and write down the details of anything you think your pet has ingested, for example: when they ate or drank it, how much they have ingested, and what symptoms they are experiencing.
