The Old Mine House is a beautiful house with its own wildflower meadow (where you can camp), woodland and reservoir, covering 9 acres within the Dartmoor National Park. We offer a back-to-basics camping experience with basic facilities. We have a shower, a flushable toilet and a compost toilet on site; no electric hook-up or washing-up facilities are available. Well-behaved dogs are welcome to c
ome and join you on your holiday and we allow campfires for the traditional camping experience. We also offer a log cabin lodge and a bell tent to rent for guests looking for more of a glamping holiday. On our campsite we have table tennis, badminton, slacklining and a kids' play area open and available all hours. We can also offer activities including forest school, bushcraft, canoeing, tree climbing, yoga, massage, reflexology, martial arts, drumming, kickboxing and cooked meals (extra charges apply). We are in the process of becoming self-sufficient. Our heating, hot water and cooking is 90% from burning wood - backed up by oil for heating and hot water and electric for some cooking appliances. We plan to keep chickens and other animals and grow our own veg and fruit, we already have a small orchard. We are open to having people come stay and share their knowledge/ help out in return for any of the skills we have to offer. Plans to run retreats for individuals, groups and families, as well as have an timetable of classes throughout the week that will be open to the public. We also plan to have a "ring ahead" brunch/lunch facility for groups of walkers as we have a public footpath, and we will offer tea/coffee and light refreshments out on the lawn throughout the warmer months! We also plan to eventually offer 'outside' weddings/ wedstivals. Other than that we are open to suggestions from the community of things they would like going on and to any organisations if they would like to come use the land for events etc. Please support this venture and spread the word! many thanks in advance for your support

This year marks our 5th Family Festival at The Old Mine House, Dartmoor, Devon! We have been running family events for over 10 years now, firstly in London and then in Newbury, Berkshire. Out of all the events we hold, the Family Festival is by the far the hardest for us to organise. There is a lot more preparation and organisation needed than any of the other events. For one thing we need many more people to run workshops and we need lots of people to help with the set up and clean up at the end. Plus, with all the extra insurance etc it is the most costly! However, we know it's so needed. More than ever people are busy with all kinds of things, and families are all spending more and more time indoors, hooked up to electrical devices. So we provide a space where families can disconnect from the stress of everyday life, have a digital detox, and reconnect to each other and nature. Its also a safe environment for children to have a bit of freedom. We have activities running all day that are suited to children only, adults only, and families, so the kids get to go off and do things on their own, which not only boosts their confidence and self esteem, make new friends and learn new skills, but also they earn our own currency for doing so, which they can spend in our little shop! Its a chance for families to make memories, and have quality time together, thus deepening their relationships. Even if they choose not to do activities together during the day, at night we have a big campfire and musicians perform on the friday and saturday eve, and then on the sunday evening everyone has the chance to get up on the stage and have a sing or perform (the kids get a little encouragement with the bribe of a free soft drink!!). The families get to try something new and perhaps pick up new hobbies, as we have such a range of activities going on from yoga, dance, tree climbing, bushcraft, various arts and crafts, circus skills, drumming, singing to name but a few.
