Welcome to Cardueae Labradors. My primary interest is breeding working chocolate labradors The dogs enjoy life but equally enjoy their work.

I have owned, trained and worked labradors now for almost half of my life. I am a Kennel Club Assured Breeder and strive to breed healthy, trainable, good natured dogs suitable for working or active family homes. I have a team of dogs ranging from puppies in training learning the basics to fully trained dogs for working or competition. I enjoy every aspect of breeding, rearing and training labrado

rs, and find nothing more pleasurable than allowing them the use of their natural instinct to help me in my work. During the summer I like to compete in local gundog working tests and spend a lot of time training the dogs with friends. I have recently started to compete in field trials and was lucky enough to gain two awards with Yvie this past season. In winter I spend 3-4 days a week out picking up on a large shoot, allowing the dogs to use their natural ability and determination to find fallen and injured birds. I have been lucky enough to work on some very prestigous shoots around Yorkshire and the dogs make a very good impression on anyone they meet. They behave well, do the job well and continue to suprise me bringing birds from places I did not know existed. We aim to breed dogs that will make fantastic pets but they also love the challenge of a job, whether that be as a gundog, doing agility or obedience or as an assistance dog. All the girls are Hip/Elbow tested, hold current eye certificates and are PRA, CNM, EIC, SD2 and STGD tested aswell, I only use health tested sires to abide by the KC Assured Breeder Scheme. My primary interest is breeding working chocolate labradors using bi***es that are chocolate or carry chocolate and dogs with strong trialling bloodlines. I aim to improve the pedigree of chocolate and chocolate carrying labradors to enable them to compete on a level with their black and yellow counterparts. I stand one fully health tested stud dog which is black carrying chocolate.

My 2nd chocolate bitch, her and Roxy were as thick as thieves together. Tia was a beautiful, clever, hard working and loyal bitch with an occasional independent streak. She didn’t like the competitive obedience career I had hoped she would (as this is what I did with the older girl) so we embarked on a journey of agility. She much preferred that and had some good results winning to Grade 3.

Alongside agility my introduction to the gundog community began in 2010 when I started beating on a commercial shoot with Tia after being invited by a friend. It was there my interest in picking up started as I found myself fascinated by watching the dogs using their natural ability to find game. I spent the whole season using my days off from work to volunteer on the shoot watching, learning & asking questions with two incredibly eager dogs. It was a massive learning curve and one I am incredibly grateful for now as it is what stands me in my current position.

Tia was the mother to my first Cardueae litter, and in my current kennels are one granddaughter, one great granddaughter and two great great grandchildren. Tia was a lovely mother and taught me an awful lot about breeding, the highs and the lows!

My close friends Laura & Mark took Tia in her retirement and I cannot thank them enough for the brilliant life they gave her, the care and love they showed her over the years and the respect needed when the time came yesterday. I will be forever grateful. Thank you.

If you are going on holiday or away for any amount of time (1 day/night up to weeks) and have a dog from me or come training with me, I am more than happy to look after them, just ask 🥰

It’s difficult to describe how proud I am of Hazel recently - she has made a brilliant transition to running in open tests since moving out of novice.
She has completed 4/4 that she has run in now and gained her first award last weekend at the NDLRC Streatlam Park test.

Over the moon to receive my youngsters hip/elbow results last week.
Three very pleasing results.
It is always a tense wait for them to be 12 months old and have the Xrays done, but now they are done it is time to continue their training.

“Nearly” Dora starts off her test season with another 2nd to add to last years collection 🥰🥈

Thank you to the GRCN club, the committee, helpers, judges and fellow competitors for a lovely day yesterday.

The ground as always up there is fantastic and the sun shone but a breeze kept us cool along with water tests to cool the dogs.

1st place awarded in the TTT open working test at Allensford yesterday!

A very enjoyable day where she ran nicely over tricky tests on tough ground, reminding my younger dogs that she has definitely still got what it takes 😉😂

A big thank you to the Tyne Tees and Tweed FTA committee and all of your helpers, the judges for the day and the landowner for allowing us to hold the event.

Last Sunday was also successful for young Lilac 💜
She ran in her first ever puppy test at only 11 months old and coped brilliantly with what was asked of her to be placed 2nd!
Lilac is out of Yvie (OFTW Cardueae Yealands) and so far is a joy to train what little I have taught her.

ran her puppy Raven (Cardueae Kahli) in her first ever test also and was awarded 3rd place. Raven is also only 11 months old and really does soak up the training with Mia. The puppy class had 17 entries in which is a great number and is lovely to see.

A big thank you to Skinners & Sporting Saint for the sponsorship. On Sunday was awarded a 15kg bag of food from Skinners along with 2 goody bags from Sporting Saint containing leads, dummies and much more.

Winner of the Three Ridings Labrador Club novice working test at Skipster Hagg on Sunday.

A huge thank you must go to everyone involved in making the event happen, it is hugely appreciated. Horrendous weather for most of the day didn’t dampen spirits and a great atmosphere was felt throughout the day.

Hazel ran like a dream and the tests suited her, I am very much enjoying every minute of her.
It is so satisfying to train and run dogs that I have not only bred themselves but also their parents/grandparents. The years of enjoyable but hard work are paying off.

Unbelievably proud of Jessica …… at only 9 years old she has been chosen to run for the YKC Agility Team GB at the Junior Open World Championships in July. The competition is being held in Belgium.

Following 2 days of selection runs recently with Clover (Cardueae Veroni) the confirmation email landed today - Part 1 of the large team!!

I must give huge credit to Kate Fowler - Clovers owner who is the backbone of this combination! Kate reared, trained and competed with Clover from the very beginning up to the highest level in agility - grade 7 (Championship level).
Some may say agility is not a labradors game but the results here speak for their selves!

I am humbled as a breeder that sweet Clover and Jess have a bond so brilliant that they can do these amazing things after less than a year of working together, I really hope the pair continue to work so well together.

This is a massive achievement for such a young girl and I wish Jess & Clover the very best of luck!!! 🍀

A fabulous day yesterday judging a Puppy/Novice/Open working test for the TTT club at the Kennelclub’s Emblehope & Burngrange estate.
Great atmosphere amongst the competitors and a good standard of dog on some tough, testing ground.
It also didn’t rain!!! 🥰

2024 working test judging appointments …….. I feel very lucky to have been asked to judge 7 working tests for 7 different clubs taking place over 6 different counties this year.
