One step ahead of these little monkies, new panels went up to prevent any runners.... The front of the pen will be removed in the next few days but for now it's staying up as form of damage limitation as once they have eaten or wake up they poo everywhere 🫣🤣 and I am on my own for clean up duties now! As soon as weaning starts Lelu won't clean up their mess anymore, don't blame her!!!

Soft toys have entered the pen and they looooove them... As a precaution all fluffy inards have been removed so the stuffed animals are dead in arrival but the pups are none the wiser and are enjoying sussing them out. They will be removed at bedtime so no hazards and they would poo all over them overnight 🤣🫣 The poo battle is real 😑

Not long and they will be over the edge!! Today will see me expanding their pen and making it escape proof. I use metal slatted pen sides so they can see more, it continues the process of making th bomb proof 👍

Clever girl... Orange is already 'pointing'

A dog "points" by freezing his body, often with one front paw up, and aiming his nose at a particular spot. He will do this to bring attention to something and notify his pet parent of where to look...

Where have 20 days gone!! Cheeky little bundles of joy are so much more interactive now with longer periods of being awake and lots of sibling play. Teeth are coming through now too so weaning is ramping up. They have had a couple of days of goats milk and puppy pate and will be having some soaked kibble later too 🥰

Not for the faint hearted 🤣 or for anyone with OCD. ... Next up in today's menu was puppy mush. Initially introduced by putting small amounts on my finger and then adding it to the feeding bowl. They loooved it! Lelu sat patiently outside the pen until she was allowed in and polished off the left overs 🥰

Lelu and Granny 🥰

My mum moved in with us two weeks before Lelu was due and has been such a huge support to Lelu and I, today she is going home 😔 However, she only lives ten minutes away and although wont be sleeping over anymore will be visiting every day to continue our supervisory role of the pups 🧡 even when not needed I don't think I will be able to keep her away as we are so invested in their journey.

For 18 days we have shared responsibility of keeping a watchful eye over mum and pups 24hrs a day, to ensure they are safe and happy.

Some may say over the top but for me investing this time early on guarantees all pups are safe and not being squished by accident, are rotated fairly at the milk bar meaning they all gained weight equally and so as and when Lelu needed some space she knew we had her back 🤗

During the early days when Lelu would not leave the pen we were also her servers and when she wanted water or food she would look at the bowl she wanted and we would pass it her so she could re fuel. It's thirsty work feeding 8 pups!

And then there is the housekeeping, washing washing washing.... She's done an amazing job of teaching them how to toilet and now they know what they are doing they sprinkle their tinkles everywhere 🤣 Washing machine is working hard daily but keeping the pen fresh and hygienic is up there on priorities.

In the next couple of days the pen will be expanded, toys will be introduced and puppy mush will be introduced to their diet. At this point Lelu will stop being a poo hoover and I will take over the task of poo picking for them, you have to be on the ball and quick or it ends up being a poo bath 😂

We've continued with daily handling of the pups and the hard work has paid off. We had our first new human visits over that last couple of days. Strangers into the home can be unsettling and could be seen as a threat but we had absolutely none of that. After a lovely welcome from Lelu and a good fuss she relaxed and let our visitors observe the pups and then have some awesome squishy cuddles 🥰 It's a wonderful reflection of her lovely calm temperament and of how she trusts me implicitly. She kept a close eye and kept checking in with me and soon realised it provided a good opportunity to get some well deserved rest while she left me in charge 💗

And let the messy fun begin 🤣 First day of weaning! They had a little feed from mum but she's starting to get uncomfortable so after their breakfast they had some goats milk and did a fab job. Initially I think they thought it was a paddling pool but Lelu stepped in and showed them how it's done 👏

Phase two of introducing more contact with the puppies was with my bestie and her kids. I call them my puppy whisperers as just look how calm and content the pups are. These are all important steps to ensure that when Lelu has her first visits from potential new owners she is happy to share her space and her babies. We go at her pace and let the pups decide if they want to be with us or their mum. Slowly slowly is really important to make sure stress is low as we want confident and happy pups 🧡

Socialising the pups with humans and with dogs at an early age will ensure these pups become well grounded at an early age. The first phase of that was the family having cuddles and next was our closest friends. The reason for this is to ensure Lelu is happy with us being involved. Just look at the smiles these bundles of joy bring 🥰

Happy two weeks birthday beautiful puppies 💞

Mumma managing feeding time now and only pops in and out on her terms.

Pups usually start weaning at 3 weeks onwards so project whelping will start soon, the pen will need to be extended so they have a clear sleeping, feeding and play area. Potty training starts then too. When they wake they are placed in the designated area, when they have eaten back to the same area and so on..... Sound easy, it's not 😂 There will be lots of woopsies along the way but one step at a time.

Black singing for his dinner 🤣 This video also shows Lelu toileting the pups.... Puppies need to be stimulated to have a number 1 or 2 for the first several weeks of life. Lelu does this by licking the appropriate areas. They will gradually develop the ability to toilet on their own around three to four weeks of age and then is over to me.. 💩
