Coat prep it key... this is what you aim for a coat to be like before you start the clip ππ Bathed, conditioned, fluff dried and completely knot free...heaven !!
π Coat prep is key π
The better the coat prep, the better the groom!! Before you groom a dog there is a lot of work to do....
* Pre bathing - you have a quick examination and brush through of the coat. Any obvious matting or knotting can be dealt with prior to washing the coat.
* Thoroughly bathing the dog (often several times) to remove grease and dirt within the coat. Conditioner is used depending on the type of coat.
* Rinsing until the water runs clear and the coat is squeaky clean. If soap suds are left in the coat it is very hard to dry and very noticeable.
* Towel dry as much as possible, this reduces the drying time. Sometimes spray conditioner is used at this point - again depending on the coat type.
* A brush through of the coat to help sperate the strands. This again aids with the drying time.
* Then the drying process begins. This is the longest part of the groom. And can take upto an hour! Different heat temperatures and nozzles are used to dry the coat from base to tip. Curly coated dogs require fluff drying . This is a combination of drying and lifting the coat to straigtening out those pesky curls and manage any matts and knots that are present π₯°
..... Then the clipping can begin. In the video you will see that Vivienne's coat is all ready for clipping. I am, at this stage able to run the slicker brush and metal comb smoothly throughout the coat ππ
Good job Vivi ππ§‘
