In November last year, the BBC News reported figures from RSPCA (England & Wales) which showed in the past three years the number of abandoned animals increased by a whopping 51%.

Many of these dogs were dumped in shockingly neglectful states. The number of calls to their emergency lines over winter were also alarmingly high.

We have yet to discover what this year's figures are likely to be - but dogs homes across the UK are now highlighting the dogs they have for re-homing.

And there are already lots.

If you're thinking of getting a dog this year - please think about adopting.

🔷While many of us have a warm bed and roof over heads, this isn't the reality for a growing number of people in the UK. Owning a pet while being homeless can be challenging - not least because many hostels and other accommodation won't allow pets.

🔷This is forcing people facing housing crisis to give their pets up, at a time when they are most needed. Is this really fair?
