Just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who has sponsored any of the team this month in the 'walk 50 miles with your dog in November' challenge for the Samaritans.

Thank you especially to Angus, Bertie, Casper, Dougie, Echo, Freddie, Henry, Isis, Lily, Millie, Moose, Peebles, Reggie, Rufus, Rupert, Sky, Ted, Terry, with pom pom waving by Lulu, and of course my very own Wally who's gone on longer walks than ever before to help me reach my target.

My final total was 204.11 miles, having set myself a target of 200 miles I just sneaked in on Friday, phew!

Total raised is £920, thank you!!!! (Team Hope total was an amazing £1665!!) With that the Samaritans will be able to help many people who are struggling to cope in times of crisis.

Every month is tricky when you lose someone very dear, for all the reasons, and this month was no different, but it was accompanied by a bit of a virtual hug from every donation. It's not too late to donate if anyone would like to. The link should be at the top of the page.

More help with the sponsored walk for the Samaritans, today from Sky then Reggie.

Sky tested the durability of the 'bandana of hope' and found it a little under par! The bandana lived to fight another day but only just....

Later, Rupert was his usual enthusiastic self initially but found his friends Winnie and Margot and had a rampage about. Sadly I was counting the distance I travelled not his steps!

The link is below for anyone who would like to sponsor us all. Thank you to those who already have. 🙏🙏

Casper always always gives me his best side when he poses for photos, I think he's a natural.

He is also a natural roller in mud and managed to 'adjust' his bandana to his satisfaction today 😂♥️

The Sweetness of Dogs

What do you say, Percy? I am thinking
of sitting out on the sand to watch
the moon rise. It’s full tonight.
So we go

and the moon rises, so beautiful it
makes me shudder, makes me think about
time and space, makes me take
measure of myself: one iota
pondering heaven. Thus we sit, myself

thinking how grateful I am for the moon’s
perfect beauty and also, oh! how rich
it is to love the world. Percy, meanwhile,
leans against me and gazes up
into my face. As though I were just as wonderful
as the perfect moon.

Thought it would be fun to post a quick update of day 1 of the challenge, along with photos of everyone who has helped me today.
Thank you to Millie, Rufus, Mr Moose, Freddie, Rupert, Peebles and my very own Wally, although he was a little camera shy (or did I just forget....?)

Thanks also to Clarice for providing a comfy head rest.

Bryan got mail (thank you ontie Jane) and was giddy with excitement as you can tell, about not only the Christmas stamp, but also when he realised his new bandana had arrived.

We may need to get a new publicity photographer....

Our challenge for November to raise funds for the Samaritans starts tomorrow and I will be doing it with help from all my York Walkies friends ♥️ If you have any spare pounds or pennies we would be very grateful and you can sponsor us here https://www.justgiving.com/page/tina-abbott-1728243999695

We will let you know how we get on 👣👣👣🐾🐾🐾

York Walkies team dogs I will be needing your help next month as my dogs are too lazy!

My friends Jane, Rachel , Dughall, Rose and I are Team Hope, and we are each walking 50 miles with our dogs (real and imaginary) in November to raise money for the Samaritans.

Earlier this month was World Mental Health Awareness Day. And yet we still don't really speak about mental health, despite the fact that it visits so many of us at one time or another, directly or indirectly. Not really, not in the same way we would discuss my bad back, your broken arm, or the fact that our knees have been giving us grief this week.

On 8 February I lost one of my oldest, dearest, most precious friends by/to su***de. I don't even know how to describe it. I can't remember life before she was part of it. I loved her and she is missed by so many people because she was an amazing beam of light and sass and fun and bonkers beautiful vital directness.

So, along with my dogs, and also the dogs I know (because to be frank my dogs wouldn't move off the sofa for long enough so I need help from the York Walkies gang), we will walk and do what we can to help the Samaritans provide their lifeline of a listening ear and moment of peace or safety or friendship for people who need it.

We would so appreciate it if you could spare just a couple of pounds to support the Samaritans too. Thank you.

In memory and celebration of Samantha and David x

I wasn't sure whether to post this but, my friend David was a big part of the York Walkies journey and I know many of you will remember his walks with your dogs with great fondness as he was a kind and gentle man (I think many dogs would say he was a complete pushover....)

Very sadly David died on 20th June. His friends and family are devastated by this loss.

David was kind, gentle, unassuming, clever, artistic, patient, tolerant (except when it was right not to be), quiet, funny, quick witted, principled, talented, and above all, a hugely passionate advocate for all animals, including of course the many greyhounds who he and his family adopted and fostered over the years.

David was a huge supporter of York RSPCA Animal Home. I'm sharing a fundraising page set up by his friends and family. It would be an amazing tribute to David to give a gift to help the animal home in his memory and he would love to know that this was his legacy.

David will always be in our memory and hearts. You'll be missed mate.
