In January Mike and I went on the most incredible holiday cycling through Tanzania and then went on Safari. I have never had the privilege of watching wild equines before so was it was incredible to spend time watching the Zebras! There were some young males that were on their own trying to find their own herd but most were very sociable with each other, in obvious small family groups. I watched quite a few greeting by touching noses and they were really interactive with each other, definitely something I will keep in my mind with my own horses.

This is definitely something to think about…..!

We want our horses to behave, but most of us haven’t learned to behave ourselves

We want our horses to be calm, but most of our minds are twisted up like a brambled ball of barbed wire
And our horses carry the burden

We want our horses to know their limits, but most of us still use the adult version of a temper tantrum to get what we want-
We’re entitled, never satisfied, and bitter about what we didn’t get
but hope the horse is happy with nothing but what we give him

We want the horse to settle and live peacefully
But we can’t get along with each other, can’t eat our words, can’t say sorry I messed up

We want the horse to be satisfied
But we complain endlessly

We want the horse to be straight
But we haven’t straightened out our own lives

We want, want, want,
And leave the horse wanting-
A reflection of our own inner turmoil and imbalance

Can you see this is a very real problem?
It all begins, and ends, inside our own minds
Inside our own lives
Inside our daily behavior
Inside how we get along
Inside what we put out

For what you do to one,
You do to all

This is so interesting! I think it is something we have always known, I tend to keep my horses for a very long time and know how much that bond and trust develops in both horse and rider/handler over time. It is great to have some research to back my own thoughts up.

So yesterday Buster and I headed off to the BD Area Festival for what turned out to be a rather frustrating day!! I went wrong in the Novice and felt like I had let Buster down, then he gave me a great ride in the Elementary but the score was disappointing (turns out it was slightly better than i thought but had been added up wrong!!) But it was wonderful to see clients and friends getting some brilliant scores and placings in some very competitive classes, well done all 👏👏.

So today while Buster is having a very well earned day off I took Smoothie for a hack to one of my favourite places in the world and reflected on our day yesterday. It is so easy to get caught up in competition, percentages and placings but what an absolute privilege it is that these wonderful animals allow us on their backs and then to be able to ride through such stunning scenery. I feel like a lucky girl today!!

What a result!!! Absolutely brilliant!!! My first job was as a working pupil for Lottie’s mother, Laura Fry, Lottie was just a toddler at the time making me feel rather old! I am thrilled for her (and my rather tenuous link to a world champion😉)

This morning was spent having my now not-so-fractured foot being x-rayed. Thank goodness it is healing really well, I’m sure wrapping it up in the FMBs Therapy Systems activo-med rug has done wonders!!
The doctor said I could start walking without the moon boot on so I celebrated by going for a little ride! Felt soooo good after 6 weeks off and Smoothie was super happy to be out hacking again. Now to build up strength and work on my own symmetry.

I had a fascinating day yesterday learning about rider neuromechamics and the Ergox2 Of Sweden UK saddles with Rider Reboot and Steph Bloom Specialist Saddle Fitter! The eagle eyed will spot my alternative footwear, I have managed to fracture my foot so am off games for now! Trying to be positive and using the extra time to work through all the questions raised in my head from the day and figure out how I can apply some of them to my equine clients!

Who was watching this yesterday? What an incredible partnership, to lead from beginning to end with only a few time penalties to add to an already impressive dressage score is something else!

It's Laura Collett Eventing and London 52's world, we're just living in it 🤩 They led through all three phases to take the Badminton Horse Trials title in emphatic style 🏆

I love receiving photos like this!!

This is Trish who I started working with in October after she was showing some gait abnormalities in harness. Her owner is brilliant to work with, taking everything on board and working through the rehab plan suggested.

We brought another one of my clients and young professional Anna Harris Equestrian into team Trish, she has done a great job schooling her under saddle and allowing her to improve her way of going and fitness without the cart behind her.

So great to see the results of teamwork and Trish looking fabulous back in harness and doing her thing!!
