Ashley from our Sheriff Hutton branch spent an inspiring afternoon at Queen Ethelburga College, a school and sixth form college on the outskirts of York, meeting and talking to their prospective veterinary and medical students. The school runs a successful supercurricular group focusing on helping students who want to get into the veterinary and medical fields, but also runs talks, discussions, and career-building events.

This is the third time that Ashley has been lucky enough to sit on the judging panel as the veterinary representative for their annual Medical Conference, where students had done research into genomics, personalised medicine, and rare diseases (to name a few). She also hosted a lively discussion on the poultry industry and poultry medicine as a career.

Supporting and encouraging prospective veterinary students is an important part of our work as vets - and it is a pleasure to see so many keen young people wanting to join our industry.

Vet Sophie attended the annual Turkey Science and Production Conference held at the impressive Carden Park Hotel last month. The TSPC is the leading conference for the European turkey industry. There were plenty of opportunities for networking along with two packed days of lectures, covering the latest scientific research, current disease challenges and production trends.

Practice hikes have begun for some of this year's Mighty Hike team!

Meaka, Abbie, Anna and Kirstie all met up last weekend to do a 17km walk around the Yorkshire Dales - Malham Cove (Harry Potter fans? 🪄) Janet's Foss and Gordale Scar!

In July, a few friends will be taking on a 26 mile hike across the Peak District to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Last year, the team walked the 26 mile Mighty Hike along the Northumberland Coast and raised £2000!

Congratulations to our Edinburgh Vet, Rafael, for completing his certificate CertAVP Poultry!

A few words from Rafa;

"What a thrill to have received my certificate for the CertAVP Poultry from the former BVPA President after being a speaker at the last conference.
Thanks to Professor Dr Ganapathy, Kannan Liverpool University, UK, the University of Liverpool and my peers for the productive discussions in the last 2 years, and of course to Poultry Health Services for supporting my pursuit of the qualification."

Just a few of our PHS girls being used as the cover of the Mighty Hikes advert for this year!

Last year, friends and colleagues from PHS completed the 26 mile hike in Northumberland for MacMillan Cancer Support - they raised £2000!

This year, they are back (+ a few more) to take on the Peak District Might Hike!
