What happens in a typical day in your role?📣

I provide high-quality, compliant veterinary consumables to our Equine practices across the UK. I also visit practices, have a good chat, and bring along some brilliant products.

What is an interesting fact about you?🌎

I love to travel! While backpacking in Bali, I have tried Kopi Luwak, the world’s most expensive coffee, made from coffee beans partially digested by Indonesian palm civets! When I lived and travelled in New Zealand, I swam with wild dolphins off the coast of Kaikoura, which is one of my favourite memories!

Jackie, what led you to joining the Vet Way team?🤝
I have always taken an interest in both the equine and farming industries and had used a lot of the Vet Way products which I’ve been very impressed with. I wanted to get back into the industry so joining the team was the perfect opportunity to do that!

What happens in a typical day in your role?👩‍💻
I make a very good cup of tea! I process orders from customers which have placed an order either through the website or over the phone. Orders are then picked from the warehouse and then are ready for shipping!

What do you enjoy most about being part of the Vet Way team?🎉
The thing I enjoy most is being part of a great, successful team who are very passionate about what they do. We all play an important role and strive for the same result.

What is an interesting fact about you?⭐
I have a home bred horse who is competing at 5* level eventing! Also, I have jumped out of a plane three times for Charity (obviously strapped to a parachute!).

The naval is the highway to a lambs bloodstream, it is an open connection with the outside world after birth. So protection of this site is one of the most important things you can do for new-borns.

Our top tip is to dip (not spray!) the navels with a 50/50 mixture of Iodine 10% and Surgical Spirit. This gives you all the benefits of Iodine while the surgical spirit aids with faster drying. Research, and farmers who have been using this technique report very few umbilical related problems when compared to using iodine alone.

💰 Utilising this mixture is also a great money saving tip as iodine prices have risen so dramatically.

It's lambing season! 🐑

When lambs are born, they can suffer from watery mouth, an infectious bacterial disease that can kill lambs within the first few days of life. Although antibiotics used to be routinely used to prevent this, we now know not only that they aren’t effective, but the inappropriate use of antibiotics can lead to antimicrobial resistance, a problem for both human and animal health.

Instead, other steps can be taken to prevent neonatal infections, such as effective navel management, hygiene of the lambing environment, and ensuring colostrum ingestion to quickly start immunity.
