Xylitolol poisoning in dogs can be avoided if you look for e967 in the ingredients of your purchases. I expect there is an app out there to tell you which products have it. It's used as an artificial sweetener, maybe it's easier to give up sweets:i tried it for a week and my first sweet afterwards was like ecstasy(not that I use it much in my cooking)

Tonights course on poisoning had a useful rule of thumb, if your dog has eaten grapes or raisins,then make sure it is given an emetic, if it starts to vomit twenty four hours later, the kidneys are damaged, if it is not vomiting the next day, it should be ok

Tonights course on horses was a bit unusual, although issues in one species can teach you how to deal with others. Blocked oviducts and baggy sagging uteri are common in horses, and may be the reason why some bi***es fail to conceive. In horses they inject prostaglandin into the oviducts and stitch the uterus to the dorsal abdomen wall, maybe we will be doing this in the next decade

We often scan hearts with ultrasound,,one problem cats get is a dilated left atrium with blood clots swirling in it, it gives the impression of smoke. Unfortunately they don't respond well to treatment and you often get blood clots coming off and lodging in the back legs so they present with cold legs that don't work and can have cyanotic pads
