A heavy breed of horse in the dressage arena?

Gharson, a 12-year-old gelding belonging to Nicola Read, is 18hh and weighs 900kg — and he competes at elementary level dressage.

On the whole, dressage judges love Gharsun. However, Nicola has experienced negativity from other competitors and is determined to break down preconceptions.

Meanwhile the youngest has mucked out the last pen in the cow shed, well done Nathan excellent driving skills. The other 2 pens got done yesterday by Adrian

It's certainly a wild one out there, hope everyone is staying safe and not been to effected storm eowyn

Taking full advantage of the storm for a tidy day for manes & tails, ear trim and a extra leg oil on all the shires (other horses have enjoyed a nice brush and pamper aswell)

Not sure Poppy got the memo it's still Jan now is not the time to lose your wintet coat🙈🙈

Time to thaw out, its a cold one today 🥶🥶

Farrier day for some of the yard sure they haven't objected to staying in, new shoes & trims.

Yesterday we got all legs washed ready to make Jason's job easier & clean and then they enjoyed a pamper under our Drimee solarium,

Will now have a good leg oil, oiling the legs prevent mud from accumulating in their long feathers, which can lead to skin irritation, infections like mud fever & damage to the feather structure; the oil acts as a water repellent, making it easier to brush off mud we also use it in the non feather horse to prevent mud fever

2 weeks ago saw the return of Luna (who we bred) on livery, she's been living out with 2 of the shire girls Zara and Emma, their legs were definitely in need of a wash🙈 what a shine
on their coats even when living out thanks to Saracen Horse Feeds 👌

They are now in the winter regime with the rest of the yard in on a night, out through the day 👌 roll on spring lol

When you get updates like this my heart bursts with pride. To think i bred him😍🥹 I really try find the mares and then chose the best stallions to compliment the mares to produce youngstock with temperament and quality

Limited Edition aka Bailey only rising 6yrs old and takes to everything he tries

Yesterday he went to Penny Clarke Show Horse and Side Saddle trainer and judge clinic & you'd think they had done it all their lives the videos & pictures are incredible 🥹🥹🥹🥰🥰💖💖👏👏 as Katie says

'Our first time riding aside and he was a superstar. So proud of my best boy, some more work needed on the canter but we’ll be in the ladies hunter classes in no time'

The bond and Trust he has with Katie Bloomer is just incredible

This pair have HOYS written all over them and we will be right behind them

Thank you to Amelia Greenwood for doing the videos/pictures 👌💖

Like everywhere we're battling on through freezing temperatures ice & snow
Livestock (sheep/belties/couple of horses) that are living outside coping well, have plenty of hay/haylage keeping their tummies full providing energy/warmth.

Stabled horses are still getting out daily for a good leg stretch taking our time to get them over icy yards, girls looking 'epic' in their The Big Horse Shop rugs when they come back in

Big shout out to our farrier Jason Richardson who got here having to leave his van & walked down... dedication at its best 💪👌

Finally we wanted to say a thank you to each & everyone one of you that has commented, sent personal messages in regards to Duchess, its meant the world to us🌍
We thank all the team at Hambleton Equine Clinic for making her final days comfortable, their support & the card we received in the post, its never easy for vets/staff that have that outcome.
Can't tell you the hole thats in our hearts 💔😪 the day after she passed we had a robin sat on the yard all afternoon & a message from Harriet who has her daughter who spookily the same day also had a robin sat on Lilys door.
A sign from Duchess to maybe let us know she was at peace & ok with her foal🕊

Tonight after helping feed up Nathan asked if he could have a sit on her...well thought we'd give her ago she just is amazing and the best temperament, clever Dora

We also have some Moor Houses 2025 calenders coming soon, full details will be out next week...keep 👀

Yesterday saw a visit from another apart of our extended team Dr Lee Clark-Physio to give some of the horses a look over going into winter. Great to see him as always👌

What is makes Lee qualifications stand out?

The term ‘Physiotherapist’ is a protected title when used on its own, if the same word is prefixed with another word such as ‘Animal’ or ‘Veterinary’ then the title is no longer protected.
Meaning anyone can use the term ‘Veterinary Physiotherapist’ or ‘Animal Physiotherapist’ without attaining any qualifications at all.

The longest & most intensive route is to become a ‘Human’ Physiotherapist first by completing a 3 year BSc (hons) degree in Physiotherapy. This gives the status of “Chartered Physiotherapist’ which is protected title. Then required to practice on people for a minimum of 2 years which consolidates all of the techniques & technology that will be needed to treat animals.
The final stage of qualification is to complete a 2 year post graduate diploma / Masters degree which will also give you membership to ACPAT (Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Animal Therapy).

A Chartered Physiotherapist & an ACPAT Veterinary Physiotherapist will have done a minimum of 7 years training and is highly qualified to treat both horse and rider.

Take that with all the experience Lee brings with him:

Certified by Kinesio UK, Part of the physio team for the London Olympics, several times at the world equestrian games, taught all over the world to name a few

We know and trust our horses are in the best of hands

Then a special delivery made me well up from Hopes new mummy 🥹💖 so very kind thank you and thank you for loving her like we do🥰

Moorhouse

Moorhouse can be found in Bransdale a peaceful part of the North York Moors. Footpaths & bridleway range cross the valley making it perfect for walkers cyclists and horse riders. Farming on 220acre hill farm breeding Swales, Mules, Leicesters, Limousin & Native Cattle.

We also breeding Shires, Shire crosses & Irish Sport horses. Producing all round types with wonderful temperments for the every day rider.

We have taken on Moorhouses following farming another Bransdale farm and were given the chance to expand and diversify. We are developing our rare breed from native cattle, Valais Blacknose sheep & the Shire horse.

As we progress we will have our own meat produce for sale from the native cows & heather fed lamb.
