Is there any better therapy in the world😍 peace and quiet watching these beautiful horses

Coming to the farm soon heavy horse days, spend some time with the shires learn about them & their history, spend time grooming/bathing/plaiting and even the opportunity to have a go at long reining/working them in harness

Hoping to be able to offer these soon we are quietly working behind the scenes to dot the i and cross the t's

When we (& few other breeders) asked Ryedale Show to run Valais classes they said yes if we could fill them...boy did we fill them. What a turnout of Valais Blacknose Sheep. ( Valais Blacknose Society)

Was a lovely day all round, BIG congratulations to other breeders there today some fabulous results ( Poplar Farm Valais Blacknose, Bramham Valais Blacknose Sheep Lingers Beck Valais Blacknose, North Yorkshire Valais Blacknose sure I've missed a couple 🙈)

Some pre baths ahead of Ryedale Show tomorrow for Nathans turn showing his crossbred ewes

The valais are going out to play as well but with being away for a few days in Scotland for a wedding & the fact that to much washing can make their fleeces felt they are going as is, just any bits to pick out their fleeces
Jewel who is going for her 1st show with lamb at foot has had a bath as only her one this year

What a lovely day at the Northern Heavy Horse Society annual show wonderful atmosphere weather was 🌞

Sadly Dolly didn't make it to compete after an accident this week has seen her injured (will mend) but cuts/wounds not looking pretty for show ring🤦‍♀️

We did however get to see one if our homebreds Sovereigns Missile aka Breeze compete in the part bred, shes just incredible a credit to Abby and received so many compliments on her as a horse & temperament 😍

A pleasure to have sponsored the heavy horse yearling class, Youngstock Championship & the overall championship.🏆🥇

Some stunning horses I wouldn't have fancied being the judge🙈 well done👏

Absolutely buzzing!!
Moorside Valais Blacknose's 1st ever Driffield show and it didn't disappoint. Proudest mum ever!! 🤩🥳🎉 and dad but he stayed at home to cut grass so I'm taking credit 🤣🤣

Connor went and WON his class with Jackpot & then went on to take Supreme Champion omg, amazing!! few tears (sorry kid)🥹🥹
Connor is only 14 all the time, work, effort he puts in and its paid off
Of course huge thank you to Scott Taylor (Yorkshire Valais Blacknose) for breeding him & for selling us him as Connors surprise birthday present back in may, hope we're doing you proud.

Connor has been honoured to be allowed in the equine hot shower unit thanks to Hippo Horse Showers not only for the horses 🤣 have to say don't mind helping with sheep when it's inside and I have warm water

Nearly show time🐑🥳 he works so hard and takes pride in his sheep, we're such proud parents

Lots happening here just wish the 🌞 would come out🙏 so we can get the big bales hay/haylage sorted

We've got majority of the in by ewes clipped 🐑
Little bales of hay stacked in the shed (really handy in winter for taking some hay to the moor ewes in bad weather & at lambing)

We have Ai our Belted Galloway cows Katniss Pearl & Ruby 🤞🤞 scans in a few weeks

A couple of outings in big red 🚛with the eldest, bribery with donuts works a treat 🤣🍩

We've had a mare had her 42 scan for 2025 baby,

Another mare scanned with 3 😱 🙈2 successful pinched a rescan 3 days later showed the last pregnancy still there. We will rescan next week for heartbeat scan.

TWINS IN MARES:
The best time to diagnose twins is at day 14-16 of gestation. At this stage, the conceptuses have not attached to the uterine wall and are also still small enough to manipulate. Usually the smaller of the conceptuses is gently moved away from the larger conceptus to the tip of the uterine horn, and is then squeezed between the ultrasound probe and endometrium until a ‘pop’ is felt.
This can be a complicated procedure and should only be carried out by a vet. With experience, success rates can be as high as 90%. After day 17, the conceptuses attach to the endometrium, making it much more difficult to separate and crush one of the twins.

An amazing 3rd place at his 1st big show at Malton Show giving the judge a lovely ride. He looks incredible a credit to Katie his owner/rider😍💖

This pair are destined for great things & we are proud to be a small cog in a part of there team 🥰

What a fantastic week! We have had the pleasure of Ryedale School pupil Lucy Warne here on work experience. No stranger to the farm this week has given Lucy a full inside view to life at Moor houses Farm.

Lucy has done daily yard tasks of mucking out, poo picking, refreshing paintwork, tack cleaning, grooming to foal groundwork, stud work scanning mares etc & working with the shires washing feathers etc its lovely to be able to educate young people coming through about the breed ( The Shire Horse Society ) to get them more interested 👌

Not only the stud work for with the horse but an opportunity with the cows as the process has begun with AI the Belted Galloway ladies thanks to Stephen at Grace Lane Veterinary Surgery for taking Lucy through the cows side of things.

Opportunity to ride Dolly and have some extra training was must 🤣 as well has learning to handle some machinery

A mid week road trip as a treat I took Lucy for lesson with Bobby Hayler-Wright at Team Hayler lots of homework but a great time had

Lucy has been a great help all week, keen to learn confident in all tasks working in the team and individually and will be an asset to any future employer.

Lots happening at Moor houses Farm over the last few weeks, we've got all our lambs tagged and pour on done. Moor ewes/lambs gone back out on the Moor til we gather at clipping time

Last of the cows went out while the Belted Galloway came in for weaning & are being AI this week

Stables have been getting a power wash out and disinfected with our trusted Equine Bio Genie products & we ready to start the painting process to freshen up for winter

Foals have been learning what the lorry is all about 👌all about building foundations for the future

Last but not least and a couple of days late (my bad) the last birthday of the year we wish Nemo a happy 8th Birthday 🎉🥳🥕🥕 hes in fabulous home and goes from strength to strength with his mum on the competition field

Enjoyed a lovely day at Defender Bramham Horse Trials watching Lucy compete in the Area evening a beautiful round and just tapped the last fence with a hind leg

So this is a bit late in the day Happy 2nd Birthday to Cruz 🥳🎉🥕🥕 Hes been a stunning boy since the day he arrived and gone though so many coat changes.
Really growing in to himself and loving his life in beautiful Northumberland.

Really can't wait to see this boy strutting his stuff in the white boards he has so much presence and stunning paces

A little update on what some of our wonderful homebreds have been up to over the last couple of weeks

Breeze taking to ridden work like a duck to water and what a way to start her ridden career with a win at her 1st show at Edenthorpe Equestrian

Bailey just excels everytime out with another win and then Reserve Champion at Doncaster Equestrian Centre.

Artie has been out at a Le Trec Clinic and took it all in his stride doing all the obstacles like a pro. He and his mum really bonding together and have more shows in the pipeline for the summer

Last by certainly no means least Lucy Warne a member of our extended Moor houses family, who I have the pleasure of coaching took part in the recent British Riding Clubs Arena eventing championships at Aston Le Walls. What an achievement when her and he ride Louie have only be together a few months following her other horse Bertie needing some time of following surgery. An unlucky 1 pole down in sj and clear xc to finish in the top half of competitiors 49th out of over 100 riders

You finish one busy season (lambing/foaling/calving) get a couple of days grace if your lucky 🤣 and then its straight on to the next phase.

Field management is an essential part of farming to keep our grazing at its best, repair any winter damage and setting up our cutting fields for making our hay/haylage

The weather hasn't been out friend along with so many farmers the land is wet grass has been slow to get going but its all finally got going 👌

We near the end of birthdays shortly as my husband says there aren't many days there isn't one 🤣 but that's because we enjoy sharing our homebreds jounery & are so proud of them

Happy 1st birthday to King Arthur aka Artie 🥳🎉, he is absolutely smashing his new chapter with his new mum.

He is taking everything in his stride been some le trec clinics, even attended his 1st Heavy Horse Camp where he got valuable experience & brought home 'Most improved'
So much more exciting things to come from this boy we love following his journey

didn't think it would be long til she was snapped up to a fabulous home, even more special its another local one so I'll hopefully be able to go and watch when she's strutting her stuff🥳

A belated happy 2nd birthday to the very handsome Chance Encounter aka Chance 🎉🥳

It was his birthday yesterday but having hurt my back digging up concrete yesterday was a blur of painkillers 🙈

Chance is out of our shire mare Duchess by TB stallion Hydrogen the material uncle to Tiger Roll

We have been very honoured to have bred this handsome boy,sold him as a foal but he has remained with us on youngstock livery meaning we get extra daily cuddles 🥰

He enjoyed a breakfast of apples and carrots 🥕🥕

Moorhouse can be found in Bransdale a peaceful part of the North York Moors. Footpaths & bridleway range cross the valley making it perfect for walkers cyclists and horse riders. Farming on 220acre hill farm breeding Swales, Mules, Leicesters, Limousin & Native Cattle.

We also breeding Shires, Shire crosses & Irish Sport horses. Producing all round types with wonderful temperments for the every day rider.

We have taken on Moorhouses following farming another Bransdale farm and were given the chance to expand and diversify. We are developing our rare breed from native cattle, Valais Blacknose sheep & the Shire horse.

As we progress we will have our own meat produce for sale from the native cows & heather fed lamb.
